Just out of curiosity anyone have any memories of playing the intellivision?
>>2941890
No. My mind has repressed the memories of that trauma. There were so few good games for it and the controller was ass.
It performs a memory wipe after each play session, individual recollection would be impossible
Can't I've ever owned an Intellivision. But I have played the Intellivision Lives Collection for the PlayStation 2. (Yes I mentioned a 6th generation console. But I have a very good reason for it.)
What games have made youcry?
Has anything modern made you tear up?
Undertale
>>2941619I cried too but I knew if the op started with that it'd be shitpost mania
FF6. I fucked up and let Cid die. I cried like a bitch in bed that night. To be fair I was like, 9.
Final Fantasy IV got a sequel, 3-D remake, and 2-D remake. Final Fantasies V and VI got this. Why is that?
Because Final Fantasy IV is one of the most loved entries, especially in Japan.

When it comes to /vr/ consoles, how much latency is TOO much latency?
Is it really that hard to keep a CRT around?

Why
I mean I understand if you're making YouTube videos or something but I think for most people that's totally unnecessary.

For making youtube videos
What is the year that it is safe to buy used PC games? I'm worried about steam or keys bullshit. What year did the beginning of the end happen?
What are some ones that never got digital distribution, some hidden gems?
Not retro and dank meme image. Yep fuck off.
It is highly unlikely you'll run into a key-related problem by now. Keys were mostly used to keep you from playing pirated copies on multiplayer servers. 99.9% of those were probably Gamespy servers, and that service has long since died. You're much more likely going to run into issues with old, incompatible EXEs or fucked up old DRM. Buy the physical media for collections' sake, but you're probably better off pirating for ease-of-use alone.

> Also, why is level 1 music always so damn good and in most cases the best of the game?
Because Level 1 is the first level the player ever sees so composers must make good music so player could be wondered what's next in the game because of music too?
>>2938716
Trip World is a perfect example. It's a neat game, but it's not excellent. Pic related is the first thing you see in-game, but it's not filled with consistently top-tier pixel art. Same with the music.
I know we tend to concentrate on more obscure gems.
But what are your memories over good old fucking Super Mario Bros.
>bonus points for describing the circumstances of you playing it
>emulatorfriends are welcome as well
I was like 3 years old when I first saw my parents play SMB on their NES. My dad was good at doing the turtle walk for extra lives.
>>2938858
>be 6 years old
>get nes for christmas
>mario is bundled
>woah, cool game
>play 30 minutes
>switch to castlevania which my parents wisely bought as a second game
>woah, this is way cooler
Since then, Mario games were always neglected by me and only played when I was really bored. Dunno exactly why, the games are good but there's always something cooler to play.
>>2938858
>neighborhood pizza place, new jersey, actual italians
>it had an arcade version of Super Mario Bros, essentially it was a Nintendo in an arcade cabinet that took quarters for timed play
>older kid brags to us younger kids that he beat it and you get to have sex with the Princess
>he plays it to show us
>he runs out of quarters in World 7
>we never get to see Sex With The Princess
So, since aging is now a popular topic on /vr/, what do you think about aging?
It's old hat.
>>2938309
It is a privilege denied to many, cherish it.
Complete bullshit. Many, many of the retro games I love, I never got to play until I was an adult.
I don't see a Repair/modding general, so I guess I'll just make a thread.
So, I bought a SNES a while ago in good working condition, but after a while, I stopped playing it for a bit. Now, when I try to play a game, the game doesn't even start, but the console turns on. My brother has a spare SNES, so I tested it with the same connections and such and it worked flawlessly. For mine though, it worked twice out of the multiple times I tried to get a game to work. Anyone know what could be wrong?
This could easily be fixed by cleaning the pin connector inside the console. If you dont have the tools to take apart the console you can just open the cartridge door and look inside. There might be a build up of dust, dirt, or residue. You will need some Q-tips and some (pic related) alcohol cleaner. I got this stuff at walmart for like a dollar and it works great. Dip the Q-tips in some alcohol and gently rub the pin connectors on the inside to remove anything that may have been in there. I would also recommend cleaning the outside of the pin connector aswell as cleaning the contacts on your game carts. Put a game cart in and give it a test. If this doesn't work your 62 pin connector may be worn and need a replacement. honestly cleaning it fixes these problems most of the time. Good luck

Let´s talk about those games. What´s your favorite starter? Dumb shit you did while playing? Which is your favorite?

reminder for rom hacker types: the entire games were reverse engineered, so you can make your own changes if you want or just look around for cool stuff.

So, I own some other consoles, but i dont own anything sega related yet, even tho I wanted to have a sega for quiet a time.
I already got some Information elsewhere, but before i buy one i just wanted to ask what /vr/ thinks?
I am personallyin favor of the megadrive as it is pretty cheap in genereal and has some decent games.
What do you guys think? Any other recommendations?
Genesis is the best system to collect for since it's so inexpensive. The Dreamcast would be second, and everything else is relatively pricey.
>>2942841
I don't think the cost of the games for a retro system should be a deciding factor in its quality, since it's so easy (and in my opinion, ethical) to pirate retro games and play them on the original hardware.
My vote right now would have to be for the Dreamcast, but Saturn has a lot of games I'm interested in that I haven't played yet, so maybe my vote will eventually switch to the Saturn.
>>2942854
These were the 2 i actually thought about as well.
Are there any positive or negative reasons for/against the mega drive/Dreamcast?
Which is the best part of Dancing Mad?
I'm voting for the part in the fourth movement where it goes silent for a second, then a lovely organ sequence begins. Black Mages did a great cover of it.

Oh shit, forgot it's got a slow start. The heavy stuff starts at the 2 minute mark.
I have a Playstation and PsOne, and decided I want to play backups and imports since my toaster laptop sucks at emulation. I have a few questions though.
1. How hard will a modchip be to install for someone who has never soldered before?
2. Is there a reason to get one for my Playstation instead of my PsOne or vice versa?
3. Will playing cd-r's absolutely rape the lasers, or are there optimized backups like the Dreamcast?
Thanks guys.
if you get the PSX instead of the PS1, it'll be easier to balance it on it's side when it fails to read disks properly.
>>2941669
I don't have a PSX.
Bump for interest.
Recently picked up the phone/mini screen combo and I love it. Makes those hideously aged graphics look delightful.
Explain us modchaps.
Do you think it's okay to criticize people playing RPGs without an optimized party?
You mean criticize people for having bowser and mellow in party?
No
>>2940537
BUT THE STRATEGY GUIDE I GOT FROM NINTENDO SAID BOWSER IS A KEY MEMBER.
Optimized party? Like a healer, the bruiser, the mage, and your second damage dealer? Not really. Some people like to play different ways so it's whatever. Final Fantasy NES is a good example where you don't have to chooe the optimized party, but any other party in that game besides the Default or Optimized is pretty much "Choose your handicap"
