Do you own any flashcarts?
Which are good, which are chinese trash?

>Which are good, which are chinese trash?
Don't have a lot of experience, but as far as I know, DSTwo supercards are good for the DS, as well as GBA and SNES plugins for it.Admittedly, most of that's not /vr/
So is there any SNES flashcart that supports SuperFX? A good portion of the games I want to play require SuperFX and it seems that all the carts I've seen can't support these games.
>>2961869
None also It never will as the guy that makes the sd2snes updates dont know jack shit about it,
I read a few years ago that he just stole the msu1 and other info from byuu.
After like 4 years of jack shit (he did a hock gamegenie stuff that broke half of the games)
I'm begining to think that is true.
What is the best music on handheld system (besides Tal Tal Heights)?
On any hand held or just Game Boy Color?
>>2961595
Any.
>>2961578
Face Shrine and Catfish's Maw. Though Tal Tal is ace.

Have a SNES that isn't really displaying the title screen of Super Mario All Stars. I've tried the normal version and the version that includes Super Mario World.
Like, there's a block and distortions on the screen. Everything else seems fine though. It goes though the demo and each game plays fine. Just the title screen is fucked up. I've tried cleaning the slot, cleaning the games, and I've even washed off the board in water and dried it. Nothing really seems to be working.
>>2942220
Other games play fine though. Forgot to add that in.
How hard is it to mod a pocket for backlighting? It's my project, kit comes in the mail Tuesday, and I have to wait to buy an iron. But I've seen it, it doesn't LOOK that hard, but some people with practice can make things look easy.
I have tried several times to start playing XCom but I suck so bad at it. I can't even finish one mission, half the time I get wiped out while dudes are still in the dropship.
Please recommend a good tutorial or video series which will take me from zero to at least proficient?
Read the ufopedia wiki.
To start off a new campaign:
1. Sell all your Heavy Cannons, pistols, standard grenades, and Interceptor Cannons - they should be armed with twin Avalanches
2. Hire two soldiers and 20 scientists
3. Start researching laser weapons immediately
4. Build a general stores, living quarters, and alien containment
5. Give soldiers a tag to designate their abilities - if their strength is 30+, give them an /H tag (Heavy), /S (Sniper) if their firing accuracy is at least 60, and /HS if both. After a mission, check their stats to see if they've leveled up so you can tag them accordingly
5. Buy auto cannon HE rounds, High Explosives, and electro flares
You want to start producing laser weapons as soon as possible. As the game goes along, add more soldiers/scientists/engineers until you have a total of 30, 100, and 70.
By late March or early April, you ought to be researching Heavy Plasma because April is when Mutons start popping up and Snakeman terror missions begin.
Be sure to throw out a smoke grenade at the start of a mission and don't move on Turn 1 because aliens have full TUs/reaction fire.
The first terror mission in January is usually Floaters, but occasionally Sectoids. If you get the latter, just abort.
>>2923312
Most of the first three months of the game will be just Floaters and Sectoids with the occasional Snakeman appearance. By April, Snakemen become a regular sight. By June, Ethereals start showing up so look out.
Don't go after alien bases until researching Heavy Plasma unless it happens to be a Floater base which is beatable with Laser Rifles. Make sure to research the Alien Grenade as soon as you can because it weighs a lot less than the High Explosive and you can loot a practically limitless supply of them from dead aliens.
Avoid nighttime missions, especially in the early game and feel free to use the Geoscape cheat trick to get out of doing terror missions at night.
You need an alien leader and commander to beat the game. All larger UFOs have leaders but only Battleships and alien bases have commanders (unless Mutons as they don't have any officers). If you take a live Sectoid officer or any Ethereal, you can then learn psionics.
Ethereal missions should be avoided as much as possible. If you land at a terror site and it's Ethereals, just dust off. You'll get a bad score but you can make up with that by doing missions over the month.
What are some reviews, lists, videos, statements or general idiocy sprouted about retro vidya that makes you cringe?
>emulation isn't playing the game for real
>"just like the devs intended"
>only old games are actually good
>this person doesn't have as much retro cred as me
>[insert prefix here]-babby
>"stop parroting e-celebs" (in literally any context)
That's some of the more standout cancer I can think of.
The 1983 crash killed all video games and Nintendo saved the industry.
People who still try to console war about consoles that came out 20+ years ago despite everything being easily accessible to download.
People on this board who think that just because the 100 users of /vr/ know what a game is, that makes it "not obscure," even though 99% of the gaming community doesn't know what it is.
How come one of the worse Sonic game has a 10/10 soundtrack?
You ca say this about most Sonic games actually.
06 was horrendous and even it still had a good OST.
Megaman is pretty similar, even the most detested entires still have great music.
>worse
Sonic Blast still exists. Is Sonic R on pc compatible with analog joysticks? Most of games with bad controls can actually get pretty playable with the correct device.
>>3005127
Not sure how different it is, but I've played Sonic R on Gamecube and having analog didn't really make it much better.
This game is way too easy.
Hadn't played it in several years, but I always see everyone brag about what a great game it is. So I play it, and it's too fucking easy.
I like the art style, music, atmosphere, etc. But how can you bunch of casuals call this the best Super NES game when it's so fucking easy? Don't you like actual challenge?
Replayed it a few times to get the game's best ending, and even that wasn't hard.
>games that I've already played through and beaten multiple times are way too easy when I play through it again
>>3008783
If it's too hard, try with beating it with just three energy tanks.faggot
Would you still be a Castlevania fan if the Metroidvanias were never created and the games kept being 2D (or 2.5D) arcade-like platformers, /vr/?
>>3008708
I personally prefer the arcade platformers to the Metroidvanias. No disrespect to symphony of the night of course.
I only played SotN in 2011, so yes
>>3008708
I don't see why I wouldn't be since I prefer the Classicvanias by far. I like the Metroidvanias, but they're comparatively shallow experiences.
Treasure thread! The most innovative game studio of all time... What are your favorite/least favorite games by them? And why is Mischief Makers so dang fun?
>>3005812
Treasure sucks. /thread
>I win

Sin and Punishment
>least favorite
of the ones I played, Rakugaki Showtime, but it was still kinda fun and has Marina in it.
>And why is Mischief Makers so dang fun?
I'd say it's the controls, once you figure out how to make the best out of the jet boosters it's a delicatessen in terms of gameplay.
>favs
Bangai-O (DC)
Gradius V
Astro Boy Omega Factor
>least favs
Ikaruga
Gunstar Super Heroes
Let's talk aout how Super Mario 64 was the pinacle of movement depth in platforming and video games in general, and how no game since has managed to pull it off as nearly as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gijPGn37uLY
>>3005430
Mario 64 destroyed platforming games by shifting them from action games to colectathons.
2D Platformers:
>action games
>stage you complete once
>Point A to B
Mario 64:
>Short amount of stages you revisit over and over again
>Hub world
>Focus shifts to finding hidden items and collecting
I can't wait to visit the same level for the 10th time and see if there's anything different.
The best stages were the Bowser stages, as they kept the same feel as the original Mario game stage designs. The whole game should have been that. Mario 64 apparently used that design due to limitations, but later 3D platformers and Mario games kept it. This doomed the genre as people got bored of this fairly quickly. 3D platformers got the reputation of being dull, slow, repetitive games.
>>3005465
There is very little collecting in Mario 64. You mostly go from Point A (starting point) to Point B (Power Star).
The 3D platformer = collectathon strawman is really getting tiresome.
>>3005465
>SM64 not an action game.
Did you watch the video in the OP?
This is almost as bad as Mega Man. Everywhere you go is literally the 7th layer of hell.
how do people play this?
They git gud.
Seriously maybe retro games aren't for you. It's a lot of trial and error, you need to make mistakes, find out where you go wrong and correcting that.
>>3005071
>They git gud.
cliché response, but ultimately true.
You're supposed to learn from your mistakes and gradually get better. Many platformers imply that rushing through is the way to win, but in Metroid, you have to start from the bottom and creep your way carefully until you're good enough. You will get lost, but if you've got a pen and paper you can draw your maps.
So again, git gud. To git gud, have patience. To get patience, have motivation to win. To get motivation to win, think about the pixel titties in the end.
>>3005078
>think about the pixel titties in the end.
fuck i need those.
So after years of avoiding the game Im finally giving it a chance
Any tips, hints, or things I should look out for?
>>3002665
I would go in as blind as you can. FFVII is quite easy with the exceptions of the special bosses which are just a gimmick anyways. What fun there is, is in discovering it for yourself.
Just go have fun.
It's overrated shit.
>>3002665
best game ever. as simple as that. Just go in and love it.
So I just got back from my friends house. He set up game genie codes or patching? in his everdrive to remove the anti-aliasing. looks like i need an ed or a game genie. found some threads on it, its worth a google.
Does it run faster?
and regular. these pics are from one of the threads.
>>3002382
It felt smoother but that could have been the improved clarity. Maybe disabling it freed up resources. a possibility of more frames but not speed?
I know people here tend to shit on it, but I just got a retron 5 and it's everything I could have hoped for. Plays all the old games I want, on a 55 inch tv, with original controllers.
Plus, with the patching feature, I can buy cheaper famicom/super famicom games and just apply english patches. In my first batch of purchases I got final fantasy 4, 5, 6 and chrono trigger for $25. FF6 and chrono trigger by themselves would have cost me $200 if I bought the snes versions.
Honestly, don't be a shitposter. Tell me why this isn't the best system for retro gamers?
>>3001330
>Tell me why this isn't the best system for retro gamers?
Because the original hardware is better than a glorified emulation machine?
CLACK CLACK CLACK CLACK SORRY FOR WAKING YOU HONEY CLACK CLACK THIS CONTROLLER THOUGH CLACK CLACK
>>3001330
Fuck you. You shit posted first with your shill post.
Let's have a thread for the most undeservedly hated retro system, the 32X. Could it have survived as an add-on and later Neptune with B/C Genesis games, taking the Saturn's place in the fifth gen against PSX and N64? Also what games have you enjoyed playing for it?
>>2999642
Bought one for Star Wars Arcade.
Did not regret.
>>2999642
They should have skipped the 32x and went straight to 33x.
It's shit and a waste of money. The Sega CD was good, though.
