I got a Dreamcast yesterday and have been playing Border Down. What's the incentive for starting at the yellow or red border? Is there a scoring difference?
Favorite game right here, check those beautiful, beautiful aesthetics.
I don't usually come to these threads, is Bosconian considered a shmup?
And are there any more games like it?
>HURR you are LITERALLY not allowed to play the CPU or else you'll pick up on irreversible bad habits
I fucking hate this meme so much. I thought the reason why people picked training mode while waiting for online matches was so they could practice without having to have to sit through loading screens.
Fuck you niggers just let me have fun.
>>2935919
Literally no one is stopping you from playing through arcade mode.
However, if you actually have some sort of desire to play against other people and to *get good* at it, then yes, you need to stop playing arcade mode and find some people to play against.
And people pick training mode to actually practice execution, not to fight input-reading AI.
Also I just want to reiterate that no one is forcing you to do anything and your rage is silly and misplaced.
>>2935919
Meh, "serious" fighting game players in general are autistic fucks. So yeah, THEY pick up habbits and can't stop themselves later on. A normal person CAN in fact play the CPU and learn shit. Enough to play against other low to mid level players and have fun.
Serious players seem to think that if you're not ranked top ten in the world, or playing professionally at tourneys, that it's pointless to play fighting games. And that's just retarded.
Personally, I'm like lower mid level of skills, and I do just fine for myself and have fun on occasion. THAT'S what it's all about.
>>2935926
>A normal person CAN in fact play the CPU and learn shit.
This is pretty untrue. Again, if you people want to play the CPU, go ahead and do so. If you want to do that and play your friends, go ahead and do so. But if you have any desire to get good, you aren't going to learn shit by playing the CPU.
You people have this weird persecution complex. The things you people are arguing against are only said to people who seek competition out of their fighting games. If your bag is playing through storymode or whatever, none of this applies to you.
In this thread we discuss clever techniques in games that squeezed every ounce of performance out of limited hardware. If there was ever a time you were playing a retro game and asked yourself "how did they do that?", post it and we'll figure it out.
Impressive graphical effects, sound, and implementation details all welcome. Bugs, although unintended, can be interesting to understand as well.
Inevitable Crash Bandicoot post.
I'm sure someone remambers knows the details better than I do but the physics of your ship alone is amazing and IIRC this game goes around the NES sprite limit by soft coding every single object on the fly.
This. How the hell did they do Sonic 3's collapsing section at the end of Marble Garden with the VDP? There appears to be 3 layers; the background, the static foreground, and the falling sections. My understanding is that there are only 2 layers on the VDP. Is the falling section composed of sprites? If it is that is very impressive for circumventing the perscanline sprite limit flawlessly on so much terrain. Anyone know about this? And I am _not_ talking about the effect seconds before the boss fight when the level completely falls away.
It's happening!...kinda!
I wanted the first collection (SoR, Outrun, Space Harrier), but this collection ain't too shabby.

>paying for 20 year old roms
Kek adoodle dooooo
>>2933535
wow it's fucking nothing
I'm just glad they didn't kill themselves by trying to hack English text into Puyo Puyo 2 on a professional schedule. And I'd prefer a single downloadable version of Power Drift, but getting this physically is good compensation.
>10 minutes into Daikatana n chill and he gives you this look
>>2932816
He just made you his bitch
You play this game on the highest difficulty and you can get murdered by tiny frogs right at the start.
You actually have to ricochet bullets off a wall in order to destroy a turret to even pass through to the next little area after that
it's silly
>>2932816
He should totally go back and release an update for Daikatana. At its core it's not a bad game. It's just a mess.
I don't have any consoles, but I have a buttload of PS2 games I'd like to go back and replay
I also want to get some games I haven't played yet
Some of my favorites include SSX3, ratchet and clank series, kingdom hearts, ffx/x-2/xii, jade cocoon 2, dark cloud 2
On my list to get is
Bully
Silent Hill 2
San Andreas
SOTC
Psychonauts
Katamari
Persona 4 (do I need to play the others to "get" this?)
Also interested in some -exceptional- PS1 games, though I'm more interested in PS2 games
If you don't think PS2 is retro fight me
nigga do you enjoy sucking dicks? we have this discussion every single day HIDE
I don't need to fight you, PS2 wasn't released in 1999 or earlier.
Also you're kind of a faggot, some bad taste in games... ratched and clank, kingdom hearts, ffx... how atrocious.
>>2929571
it was released 15 years ago, it's retro now
you can kick and scream all you want
Do the first three Resident Evil games (the PlayStation originals) still hold up?
Yes. As long as you're not one of those shit flinging babies who can't into tank controls. Even Resident Evil 1, with a superior version being out there, is still worth the play through for the B-movie feel it has.
If you are able to get the hang of the controls, they are still excellent games. For RE1, play both the original and REmake.
>>2917258
I can't into tank controls, especially not in a game like RE where you need to conserve ammo by avoiding enemies. I have a bigger problem with the camera angles than the tank controls, though. It's part of why I prefer RE4
AOE2 Thread? It's cheap on Steam right now
>>2885494
>Friendly reminder
Also, why is there not a remaster of AOE1? I like that game much more.
>>2885527
Haven't played the first one in years, what do you think makes it better?
>>2885567
not him but
- the game actually looked better, don't know why, AoE2 always looked more muddy to me, the graphics was more crisp, realistic, the atmosphere was better
- better sounds
- battles happened more fast, the smaller unit cap made micro more important instead of sending 100 eagles in the enemy base and letting them to have fun, but I agree that the unit cap in AoE1 was a little to small
Which is the best retro sport game, and why is it Tecmo Super Bowl? Got any suggestion of other sport games that are just fun to play?also, we are running a poll to update the /vr/ team for the 4chan winter cup https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ehttghV5MQJGyDD7F1RrJvUExZiN9wOi34qLqOwDgM4

Racing is a sport and pic related is the best racing game
Hi, when i was a kid i played a strange game on my Windows 98(i think that was my version) and i cant find his name.
didnt remember so much about it, just 3rd person musculated guy with a loincloth and a rudimentary wooden mallet in a cave. cant remember anything more, but i was veryyoung, sorry, someone knows name? tx m8s
there was no mallet, i remembered that in 1st level you needed to move a rock blocks to jump over them
Can anyone please tell me what ps1 game this is?
>>2948957
And this one
>>2948963
Silhouette Mirage, dunno about the other
Adventure of Little Ralph. Fantastic game.
Can the Star Wars X-Wing/TIE games on GoG be played with a KBM/360 controller fine? Would I need to buy a joystick to play them?
Keyboard and mouse? No.
360 Controller? Manageable but some shots can feel hard to make with a controller. I don't even want to imagine dog fighting the more advance fighters later in the game without a joystick.
>>2948421
>Would I need to buy a joystick to play them?
Do you want to feel like you're filling in a spreadsheet or dogfighting in outer space?
>>2948421
I am 99.9 percent sure that a joystick is a requirement, and that there is not option to keyboard/mouse the game. That being said you could use a 360 controller but it will handle like shit.
Invest the 30 bucks to get a Logitech wingman extreme from your local big box or Amazon. That way you can also enjoy classics like wing commander and a ton of other great space/flight sims.
So how likely am I to find this thing? I've been playing a lot of MAME now that I've got aG-Syncdisplay and using a mouse isn't really cutting it, I wanted proper controls for trackball stuff, but I'm not willing to shell out for a big-ass Tankstick.
>>2948003
Highly unlikely. It's an out of production niche within a niche toy. If you're that into it learn to make your own panels.
Can we discuss this game? recently started replaying it and I really want to talk about it .
It's a good fucking game OP.
IF YOU DON'T RUN PEACH-GENO YOU'RE A PIECE OF SHIT.
>>2947541
>Peach
Faggot.
It's Mario/Geno/Mallow master race.
First build of PJ64 that runs the original 64DD disks. They have to be in MAME format but at least you get more than 1fps like in MAME and dont have to stroke zoinkittys ego using those shit hacks.
https://github.com/LuigiBlood/project64/releases/tag/v0.2
There's a video of it running the SM64 64DD disk. FINALLY.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWR4S2uUGEM
Zoinkity was so shit he couldn't even get that running.
Is there anything for the DD worth playing though?
Also will Zelda 64DD (not Master Quest) ever get leaked?
>>2946101
Do you still have to configure 3 different plugins per game for N64 emulation or can you just set up controls -> load rom -> play, and get all accurate gfx?
