How do I play as Morrigan in MvsC? What's her bread and butter?
Play aerial. If you do it right, you can juggle hard.
SOUL FIST

SHADOW BLADE

Tier-wise, Morrigan is one of the worse characters on the game.
If you REALLY want to play her, I recommend searching for pro matches in youtube featuring her. Maybe a-cho will help.
What was your initial reaction when you saw this guy(?) for the first time?
The same as when I found mew under the truck.

more suprised what happens when you evolve it t b h.

I was amazed that the glitch worked since it sounded fucking stupid.
Sons of Liberty > 1 > Snake Eater
Echoes > 1 > Corruption
Super Mario Sunshine > 64 > Galaxy
Wind Waker > OoT > Twilight Princess (MM is pretty much a spin off of the series)
Street Fighter 3 > Street Fighter 2 > Street Fighter 4 (Street fighter 1 obviously discarded)
Grand Theft Auto 4 > Grand Theft Auto 3 > Grand Theft Auto 5
So in other words, an incredible and original first game that comes out of nowhere. It's completely revolutionary and nobody expects it to be so good.
The super-capable developers then take the first games' mechanics to their logical extreme along with daring and successful experimentation that is a result of their newly given creative freedom. This alienates the 80 % most casual gamers who played the original, along with 100 % of the bandwagoners who only started with the second game.
The third game is a regression towards the most cliched and shallow aspects that entertained the least intelligent and discerning players of the first game. The talented developers aim at a low target and miss even that, and who can blame them for being uninspired? They clearly overestimated the average intelligence of their audience. /v/irgins and redditors explode with rapturous applause.
Your opinions are shit.

I agree with exception somewhat to Snake Eater, but I get what you're saying.
But this is /vr/ though, too bad.

>Super Mario Sunshine > 64
Imagine being this delusional.
Does anyone remember this Game? I made a small mod for it...

Nice job famalam. Too bad the game is post-2000 so the thread will be janitor'd soon.
>>3086984
Where can i post it then? :/ i thought its old enough yet but you are right - 2006
Theres a game i always wanted to play back then but it never came out anywhere outside of Japan. It's called Homeland and runs on the Gamecube. I remembered it just now, because of a picture i have saved for a decade now. A quick search on google shows that there are some people wanting to do a translation job, but they never really got around finding enough members.

According to this the game would still be playable online if translated wich is awesome. Sadly im not a hacker or fluent enough in japanese, so i wouldn't be of much help. But maybe some of you are and are interested in this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeland_%28video_game%29
It being a kids game, all content seems to be in hiragana/katakana, which I could translate, and wouldn't be hard to find others also willing to.
It appears most of the issues are with extracting and inserting text back in the game.
What a shame. Looks like a good game.
There might be programs out there for changing the text, it doesnt seem like a hard mod to do considering you're not changing anything too significant in terms of coding... I could be talking out of my ass with all of this but so long as you can translate it changing the text shouldnt be hard.
damn, that's actually real interesting. not quite retro but i'm kinda glad you mentioned it anyway. if anyone's interested in getting a translation going i could probably contribute with translation and editing, not so much with the actual hacking though, sorry.
played JP in 5.1 today, pretty awesome. What other 16 bit had surround features
Snes I know of
Jurassic Park 1 & 2
Super Turrican 1
Samurai Shodown (excellent)
Fatal Fury Special
Rise of the Robots
King Arthur's World
Flintstones
NBA Live '96
Vortex

Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean 1 had surround sound even in their Super Famicom versions.
>>3088509
Thanks, I forgot about those. Fired up ToP on the wii. Been stuck playing. Star Ocean's audio player is neat too.

I just beat the original Ys I and II. I can't decide if I want to finally get off my butt and make my own rpg in rpgmaker or hunt down some other games I didn't get a crack at as a kid.
Does anyone have advice on what games to use as references or just to play?
I've already beaten:
Sega CD: Popfulmail, Lunar 1 and 2 (and the ps1 remakes)
Gen: Phantasy star 2,3,4, Shining Force 1/2. Shining in the darkness,
Nes: Mother 1, Zelda 1, Final Fantasy 1 2 3, Dragon Quest 1,
SNes: Earthbound, Zelda, FF6, Harvey Moon, Chrono Trigger,
I'm probably forgetting something, but that is most of them off the top of my head.
Man, I really just want another Ys I&II. That was so good. It was just the right length. And you got to explore a lot. And I liked all the additions in II. And holy crap I could talk to monsters in II! That game came out in like 89 and they actually thought of htat.

Faxanadu
for a more primitive side scrolling action rpg
this is kind of less relevant but you might like secret of mana

Is it the year 2000 again?
I recently started playing Ms. Pac-Man since my neighbor picked up an original arcade cabinet, but holy shit I suck.
I can't get past the second stage without losing a life, and I always end up getting a Game Over on stage 3.
How do I git gud?
>>3086328
Learn the ghosts behaviors, scrub. Utilize speed boosts and early cornering.
>>3086330
>Learn the ghosts behaviors
>Utilize speed boosts and early cornering
Will Google, thanks anon.
>scrub
Yeah, I've never really played this over the years, I'm more of a Galaga person, but I'm willing to learn.
One of my favorite gaming memories of all time was when I was 15 and took a Ms. Pac-Man machine at the local flea market for a spin. I was on fire, man. Went all the way to the banana level without losing a life (maybe one, I don't remember) before I finally got overwhelmed.
_That_ was an adrenaline rush.
Is using a turbo controller cheating?
>>3086254
I ask this same question when I give aphrodisiacs to your mother. But in the end, the answer in both cases is they enhance enjoyment. So who cares?
>>3086254
I guess so but not in a big way. I suppose it depends on the game. But yeah, it's mostly just meant to enhance gameplay and enjoyment.
>>3086254
God, I had that thing as a kid. Still do. I used it for EVERYTHING, not realizing it kinda sucked for most games. Whenever I went over a friend's house and they were playing with those tiny rectangles, I was amused. Then I realized they were better in pretty much every way.
Alright, I found something interesting.
I decided to continue my old King's Field playthrough, and saw that TOTALCMD can open IMG files. Curious, I opened it. Its contents are pic related ("f:\Juegos\Roms\PSX\KF\King's Field [U] [SLUS-00158]\a\" being the base directory).
When I tried to execute GAME.EXE, I got a "Program too heavy to fit in memory" error. When I tried to execute with dosbox, it just sperged out. Using dosbox_debug (From dosbox daum), there was a spam of
>CPU: Illegal Unhandled Interrupt Called 6
in the debug window, and in addition to the program never booting my computer also slowed down to a crawl. I tested GAME.EXE, OPEN.EXE, and END.EXE, and all three gave me the same errors, with the only exception of END.EXE giving the not enough memory error instantly unlike the others, which took a few seconds.
Any info on this? Did the PSX use EXE files? If so, how the hell do they work in windows, even if only to give an error? Shouldn't they be unvalid WIN32 images?
>>3086185
>Program too heavy
Program too big to fit in memory*
To add to this, these are the contents of the plain text files

Virtual reality is starting to pick up nowadays, but the first attempts where made back in the 90's, so let's talk about that.
Sega VR looked pretty rad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yd98RGxad0U
Forte VFX1 was about as good as 1990s consumer VR ever got. 320*200 per eye, 60(?) degree fov, 256 colors. Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of the Triad, Descent and Quake all have native support for it. Doom did not, surprisingly. Something about how it's rendered was fundamentally not compatible with stereoscopy.
Head tracking was surprisingly ok mostly because it used a compass for absolute rotational positioning relative to the Earth's magnetic field, a trick also used today by smartphone games

Why didn't the US version of Contra have cutscenes like its western counterpart?

What?

NES in inferior to Famicom.
NES game translators made decisions retardedly at every opportunity. Play famicom versions instead, they're almost always the better game, save for pic related.
Retro home computer controllers thread.
This is going for $60 on ebay. Yes or no?
The best controller ever made for retro games on PC coming in!
This was my weapon for gaming on my Amstrad CPC464.
Can we have an Arcanum thread?
Just picked it back up after not touching it for a good few years. I got my shit pushed in a few times by the bridge thugs at the beginning of the game the last time I played, so this should be an eventful run.
One of my favorite games. Great soundtrack and gameplay. Unique atmosphere with steampunk done right.
It's one of those games where I love the attention to detail. I'm a dim-witted though kindly ogre with no clothes on, and the NPCs notice all of these things! Granted they're mostly yelling at me or trying to take advantage of me, but it's all good.
