are one of these worth a buy? I want to play some ps1 games on my hd tv with my old playstation, but they look like crap. and I really dont want to nor have the space for a CRT.
52 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>3091754
No, it's not worth it. If you do decide to buy one you'll just convince yourself that it's better than not having one and that it was completely worth the $300+ you spent on it. At that price, who wouldn't?

Dude just get a small like 13 inch crt. You can find them for like nothing and I personally prefer them to big crt's. The picture quality looks nice when its not all stretched out.
>>
>>3091754
If you consider scanline effect a must-have it's for you. Otherwise cheaper alternatives might work.
Although you'll have to make sure whatever you get can handle 240p correctly, so you don't get the dreaded window shades effect on every-other field flicker and stuff like that from attempts to deinterlace a progressive picture.

Hey /vr/ I'm going on a business trip and will have a lot of downtime, I have PSP with a SNES emulator. What are the best SNES games to play that will emulate well on PSP? For the life of me I can't get Super ghouls and ghosts to play at an acceptable speed.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I am also looking for something a little obscure, not the obvious Super Metroid and So on
>>
>>3091615
no
>>
>>3091615
SNES emulation on PSP is notoriously bad, save for a bunch of people who say it's perfect for them and never offer any proof. Those claims alone led me to believe it would be better than it is, but it's not.

So yeah, you might want to look at another console to emulate.

Why does everyone seem to hate this game? I loved it as a kid and I've been playing it again lately and it's still just as fun as ever. Sure it's not perfect, the field of view is small, the graphics are rough, the racing is kinda slow and it's no where near as good as F-Zero and Super Mario Kart but I still love it. Anyone else a fan?

Framerate.

>>3091564
Yeah I never noticed as a teen. Played it again more recently and couldn't deal with it.
>>
>>3091564
>>3091569

I guess I'm just one of those people who isn't bothered by a low framerate. The game has so much charm that any flaws are easily ignorable. It's on par with Uniracers in my mind.

Why does RGB look so good on modern HD tvs?

Why is a Super Nintendo from the early 90s capable of looking so fucking good with a cheap scaler that outputs the 240p to 1080p?

I don't understand why the video quality is so fucking good for something 30 years old.
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Because the 240p RGB output is lossless. Do you have a 1chip?
>>
RGB is indeed lossless and awesome.

The cheap scalers are very good at either 480i signals (with motion), Or STATIC 240p.
The problem with the cheap scalers is they treat everything they receive as 480i and needlessly try to de-interlace 240p content.

They universally suck for Video games of any type because of added lag.

The easy way to get your head around why they exist, but why they simultaneously suck for video games is this: remember that were designed for DVD players, cable boxes, satellite receives, and VCRs. All of these are normal 480i/576i and video-based content where a few frames of lag is easily ignored.

Only the Micomsoft XRGB range of scalers were designed with video games in mind.
>>
The other reason why you are so surprised that RGB is so awesome is because you are probably not a European.
Outside of Europe: RGB was very rare, YPbPr was non-existent in those days, and S-Video was only high-end TVs in non-RGB nations. Also, S-Video cables were never included in the box, so were therefore rare because most people would go out and buy them.

Hell, most cheap TVs in 1991 had RF only in many parts of the world.

Games that are good yet frustrating if you are a casual scrub like me. Like Defender or Rayman. Games that make you rage till you turn purple in your face when they make you their bitch.

Rage at a game?
Are you autistic or you trying to be like your youtubers?
You do realize that youtubes have palpable autism and if you haven't noticed so far you are stupid fuck ans should reevaluate your opinions.

The whole game is a secret noone I know has played it and I love it. Anyway I remember there being a secret earthworm Jim room somewhere in the game.

Don't wanna be >that guy but you should really stick to the pc port, the ps1 version has pretty bad framerate. I recall something written on a wall texture you could only see with the sniper rifle but I'm too lazy to look it up.

Shit is pretty fucking amazing. Real bloom has an ephemeral quality when seen with your real eyes but these shaders do a damn impressive job of imitating it as closely as possible.

Yeah it looks pretty damng good, I haven't played an emulator in forever so its nice to see the filters have improved.

also on punes is the Sony bunch of numbers setting the palate that's based on an actual crt tv?
