So a new arcade and comic shop opened up in my home town of Evansville Indiana. I have not been there yet but it's amazing that someone would open one up in this small town
Arcade thread, I guess

I think it's nice this guy invested a lot of money to help dads introduce their kids to retro games and then go home and install some emulators and never come back.
Swillburger / The Playhouse in Rochester NY is pretty cool.
Good burgers, great cabinets.

For what reason?
>>3087104
Because they're the original thing and look cooler. Famiclone cartridges are made out of cheap plastic that literally begins to rot after a while

hey /vr/. i'm wondering if anyone has a good guide for beating omega and ruby weapon. i want to start a new game with only this in mind and would like to build my characters, weapons and materia to optimally defeat them without the use of KOTR.
any help is appreciated!
>>3086962
Eh if you're using a walkthrough what's the fucking point? I just heard someone say you should enter the fight with 2 knocked down partners and phoenix on final attack, also ruby is weak to paralyze
>to optimally defeat them without the use of KOTR
Why would you do this to yourself?
Any I saw a video where Barret does a limit break and kills Emerald Weapon in one turn. Not sure how it worked, but it has so much HP you literally have to exploit the game. Like KOTR+doublecast then had everyone mimic repeatedly.
you're gonna get some broken enemy skill you would never have heard of if it weren't for /vr/ then complain about the game being too easy
I just proved beyond that TMNT III The Manhattan Project is the best Turtles game
see?
I can't disagree
>>3086467
I don't get it
>>3086553
theres always one turtle ninja in every game that is OP, that everyone mostly uses (I think)
Because it has a special chip with Kanji font that most games simply included on the disc.
These games include:
Sword and Sorcery (localized as Lucienne's quest)
Demo version of Alone in the Dark (play the full game instead)
Twinkle Knights (hentai game)
Blue Forest Story (Saturn version available)
Cradle Moon
Blue Chicago Blues
(any more?)
Do you know of any other consoles that have this problem? Not a region locking chip, not the foreign cart won't fit in, but missing a little quirk that prevents certain foreign games from loading?
The 3DO had no region lock (and no copy lock) so it's peculiar that some games need a JP console.
Moon Cradle was also on the Saturn.
Blue Chicago Blues was also on the PC, PS, SS, and PC-FX.
The 3DO is a machine known for having many ports to and from the system and those ports were often the best versions.
>>3086256
Not.peculiar in the slightest. This is a well known issue seen on many jap systems.
>>3086282
Fuck, most of my systems are NTSC/UC.
So which consoles must I buy the Japanese version of to get full compatibility?
Sonic: Whoa there anon!
Sonic: You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! That's no good! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Anon: Wow! Thanks Sonic.
Sonic: Now, there's no need to thank me. I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Thanks for the advice sonic
Is it just me or does anybody else get an instant headache when playing Axelay?
Not sure if it's something to do with the "rollerpin backgrounds" that's nauseating or the repetitive muffled SNES style instrumentation in the music.
It's sad too cause I like the game.
here is your problem
>>3085084
It's just you. I played this game for the first time one month ago and it looks AND sounds amazing. I find it a little hard but I am not a Shoot'em Up expert so I can't judge well.
I think it's just you
What does /vr/ think of Spacewar?
Nice curiosity.
>>3083984
Fucking physicists, thinking physically realistic space war far would be fun.physicists always invent the cool shit, represent!
>>3083984
I think I'm thankful to people like that, also first netplay game?
People love the old Mario games, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World. Why is it that I literally never hear anyone talk about Super Mario Bros 2? When talking about the Mario games it seems like people tend to forget it even exists.
Why is this? It's not even a bad Mario title as far as the whole franchise is concerned.
>>3083525
Jsmb2/LL is all you're allowed to like. Your "creds" got a -2 debuff
SMB2U is my favorite classic Mario game because of the semi-non-linear level design, great music, and multiple characters.
>>3083525
People hate because it's "not a real mario game".
Personally, I think it's a very solid game but I prefer Super Mario World and Super Mario Land 2 because they got more replay value to me than this game does.

What are your thoughts on this theory? Do not post quotes from the 1UP interview with the designer of the controller, Teiji Goto. He's full of shit and hardly any games follow his "philosophy" (square for menu? top kek).

Leave and don't come back. Even when you turn turn 18, please don't come back.
>>3081039
The fuck're you talking about m8? Just because the picture is of a PS3 controller, doesn't mean it isn't relevant to a PS1 controller. Faggot.
>>3081039
Maybe ps3 is retro to him, since it's what he played when he was 5 years old just like me and NES.
was this a good game? I remember renting it as a kid and thinking it was cool
There are no good Rare games, only nostalgia and Kinect sports.
It's really nice and personally one of my favorite Rare games. It was developed by the Blast Corps team (another of my favorite games of theirs).
I've been replaying it recently and it's still fun as fuck to blow up these insects and dismember their limbs all around. I love the weapon variety.
The main thing to note is that you will need to go to the option screen and change the control scheme from normal to Expert. Expert controls will let you move in all 8 directions while on aiming move, it changes the game greatly for the better.
The only downside and what most people complain about is the tribal collectan, but it's only required after you've beaten 70% of the game, it's not something that you need to do all the time while you're playing.
The multiplayer modes are also great fun.
And let's not forget Vela's titty jiggle animations, oh baby.
>>3080826
It's great, up until the end when it forces you to go back and collect every single tribal in the game in order to get to the final boss.
To this day I've never beaten it, because that's a level of bullshit that I refuse to accept.
It did a lot of cool things, though. The idea of having 3 playable characters who all worked slightly differently, and had different paths through the game was nifty, and the limited co-op play was pretty sweet if you had a friend.
Have you beaten the original Super Mario Bros?
Up until yesterday, I would've told you I never did it, but I buckled down really working at it and I've come up with a strategy and have since been able to beat the game several times consistently in a row. I've found that the game really isn't hard until you get to world 8.
I mastered the 3-1 1-up trick so that if I have any problems with world8 I can grind through it without a game over. I make sure to absolutely gain/hold onto a fire flower at 8-3 because I've deemed 8-4 basically impossible without it as the hammer bro and bowser throwing hammers at the end is tremendously difficult to get past without just killing them with fireballs. That's where the surplus of lives come in, if I have trouble with the hammer bros on 8-3, I can grind at it until I have a fire flower although the more times I do 8-3 the easier it becomes learning their patterns.
>>3080037
Welcome to the playa's club playa. You made it.
>>3080037
1. Having a fire flower is helpful sure but you can definitely beat 8-4 without it. It's just an issue of timing (Anticipate when the hammer bro is going to jump and then run). The hammer throwing bowser isn't hard at all, there's a dead zone where he can't hit you right in front of him, then when he jumps just run underneath him.
2. I've never needed to stock up on lives. Lives are fairly easy to get, just collect coins.
i've played it so many times that I can play through each level (no warp zones) without dying. I can't beat 2j though.
Retro tattoos?
Yay or nay?

Nay because tattoos are stupid.
Nay to tattoos in general
...but if I ever changed my mind, pic related.
What's the best dedicated emulation portable you can get right now? Nvidia shields are getting harder to come by
