What were the best games on this console, /vr/?
The ones from Rare, Nintendo, and Treasure.
>>3083483
This and also the Goemon games, the Bombermans, Ogre Battle 64, Harvest moon 64, the AKI wrestling games, most of Midway's games, Snowboard Kids 1 and 2, Beetle Adventure Racing, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Space Station Silicon Valley, Ridge Racer 64, Hybrid Heaven, and if you're into imports there's games like Wonder Project J2, Getter Love, Shiren the wanderer 2, etc

Bangai-oh, sin and punishment, world driver championship
ITT we talk about underrated MK knock-offs
Just off the top of my head:
Way of the Warrior
Bloodstorm
Time Killers
Eternal Champions
Did anyone else dig these as much as I did?
>>3083048
Bit of trivia: Time Killers came out within a couple months/maybe weeks of MK, it's not really a ripoff.
I think it was inevitable that an American dev would make an ultra gory digitized fighter given the trends at the time, MK just got there first.
But yeah, I unironically enjoy these.
>>3083048
Are you just calling western fighters "MK knock-offs"? They don't even have much in common with MK.
>>3083070
I didn't really know what to refer to these games as, y'know? Deathmatch fighting games? Kumite sims?
Speaking of Time Killers, I remember the first time my brother and I played it in the arcade. I picked Mantazz and he picked Chainsaw. As soon as the round began, I slammed my hand on all five buttons and immediately decapitated him.
Pic pretty much related.
>>3077078
the genesis Aladdin game had floaty controls and poor backgrounds.
>>3077078
I don't think I ever enjoyed that level. It's not bad, but it just feels like I should be done. Next zone please.
>>3077078
The dreamcast isn't very good, it was underpowered and had no good exclusives.
Let's have a Half-Life thread.
Post comfy screenshots, discuss your favorite GoldSrc mods, and share interesting trivia.

What are the pros and cons of sotware versus opengl/direct3d mode?
I always assumed the gpu mode would be the best
Why was Chrono Cross such a terrible follow-up to Trigger?
>>3074364
Because the alternate dimension thing was just an excuse to reuse assets. It had good waifus though so fuck you.

You got it.
When did you grow out of savescumming?
How the fuck is this /vr/ related?
>>3073908
>How is a common feature in every single vidya emulator /vr/ related?
I actually grew into save scumming thanks to Zelda II.
They literally start you at the beginning of the game. Every. time.
Should you modify retro systems, or keep them intact for purity?
Depends on the mod.
Power supply replacements, RGB, and DD emulator are great for example.
Keep them pure, emulate if you need better video.
Tomb Raider thread.
What was your favorite? I personally gravitate towards III.
>>3063365
>What was your favorite?
TR2. In my opinion, it was the best of both worlds - an even balance of tomb raiding and exploring urban landscapes. Critics tend to overstate the amount of urban environments in the game. I'm not sure if they actually played long enough to reach Barkhang Monastery and everything that proceeded it.
I've yet to finish TR3, but from my experience with it so far, the level design is absurdly disorienting. So many environments are pitch-black, and there aren't nearly enough flares to help you navigate for a sufficient amount of time.
1 for the atmosphere, 2 for levels even though the urban levels made no sense.
>>3063387
TR3's levels feel rushed as fuck. Lost Artifact was so much better.
>>3063365
Still the first. Can't beat the nostalgia, a very exciting story and the atmospheric levels were just mad fun to explore. One of the greatest pieces of the 90's by far.
God, the original Core Lara would be in her mid-40's by now...
Did Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun establish the Beat'em up genre or were there other games before that?
>>3094617
Looks like a ripoff of Renegade if anything
>>3094627
Low quality bait, here's your (You)
Imagine having a game publishing company back in the 80s and 90s that brought Japanese exclusive games to the NES? Kunio Kun would be a massive hit. They were crazy to localize the few that made it so heavily. Should have been a massively popular franchise. Could have made big money.
remember this one, /vr/?

Nope. That's a real hidden gem you've found.
>>3094091
really?
Are Wizardry titles good to introduce someone to retro wRPGs or will I get my shit pushed in?
This is a troll, right?
Assuming it isn't, I take it you mean W6 and NOT the old 8-bit Wizardrys.
both
>>3093587
No, I'm not trolling. But I've only played some fairly modern (seemingly, easier) dungeon crawlers like M&M7 and SMT/Persona and I wanted to look for opinions on whether the Wizardries are worth playing and which is the good one to try out.
Hey /vr/, what are some games that are short, but still dripping with quality?
I recently completed Super Mario Land for the first time, and I'm still playing it. I didn't go in expecting much even though the game apparently sold 18 million copies, but was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy the level design a lot and lets be honest Superball Flower>Fire Flower.
After I've had my fill of this, I'll probably move onto the other games in the series. Are they better?
Super Mario Land 2 is generally considered to be a fun little jaunt through some more themed levels. If you liked 1, you'll like 2.
SML3(henceforth called Wario Land) is a change to the system, not only because you play as Wario, but also because of the treasure hunting aspect, different kill mechanics...most often considered to be the best of the original GB series.
Cannot comment on the rest, as I have not played.
>>3092791
Ninja spirit on the turbografx is pretty amazing, despite such a short length. Fun weapons as well. At least it's still 7 levels. Someone skilled enough can beat it in 15 minutes, though the 1 hit death mode is very challenging.
Hint: last level has a ninja pit. It's impossible to get through unless you use a guide
Kirby's Dream Land
Extra mode, 3 health
A friend just sent me this, how much should I pay for them?
>>3091868
ask how much he wants and then lowball him hard
$20 each game.
Anyone here have a Famicom to NES converter? I recently bought a copy of Famicom Wars and I have no idea what converter I should be getting..
Yes. I gutted it from a Gyromite cart.
Good luck finding a real Nintendo brand 60-to-72 pin adapter out of a 5 screw cart in the wild I must have looked at a thousand 5 screw carts before I specifically ordered one and paid like $12. Came with its Japanese Gyromite PCB but no shell for some reason even though that's the cheapest part.
Don't worry too much about the adapter though. OP even if you get unlucky and buy one that lacks a security chip you can just snip one thick leg on your 10NES in your console so just get whatever pops up at the price you want to pay.
>>3090116
60 to 72 pins, you can get them on AliExpress.
Can we get a TurboGrafx 16/CD thread going? What are your favorite games for this system?
>>3089739
I just got my PC Engine back from a guy after having a recap job done and the cd section doesn't work now. He said that maybe it got busted in transit but I'm not sure. He did give me a fully refund. It worked before I sent it so I don't know what to believe. Anybody know of good repair people?
As for op's question my favorite games are the only ones I have:
Blazing Lazers
The Legendary Axe
Ys Book 1&2
Lords of Thunder
Macross 2036
Air Zonk is pretty fun.
I just recently discovered Kaze Kiri by Naxat Soft. Somewhat impressive animations and gameplay by TG standards.
