I have finished both Diablo 1/2 and want to replay one of them modded again but which one is better?
Diablo Belzebub or Diablo 2 Median XL ?
I can't decide...
Look up the mod called "Path of exile"
Belzebub seems more true to the original games, it's basically an upgraded D1 with a bunch of shit from D2.
Median XL is the opposite of that. Nothing is there from the original game except the art assets. All the items, quests, skills, etc are new. And the game is pretty hard. More is more and the entire screen is just a barrage of colors later on.
If you want more of the same, play Belzebub, if you want something totally different play Median.
Not retro but maybe try Grim Dawn or PoE. Even D3 is pretty fun for a play through.

Castlevania thread: No Shitposting edition.
Let's see if we can do it, /vr/.
If you see Australia-kun doing his usual stuff, ignore and report his posts.
To start off the thread, what do you guys think of Kinuyo Yamashita, the composer of the original Castlevania?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_Y4qqico3I
She forgets some parts but it's cute! Also she isn't really professionally trained in piano, she just learned a bit when she was a little kid, she joined Konami when she was freshly graduated as a sound engineer and came up with all the classic melodies on Castlevania 1 herself, without composing anything beforehand. Impressive, isn't it?
>>3170012
Do we really need 3 Castlevania threads in the catalog
>>3170012
>complains about straya-kun
>posts SCIV as OP
You're not very bright are you.
>>3170037
He will come whatever picture I use as OP, so it's the same. The point is to ignore him and try to have a civil CV thread for once.
What does /vr/ think of Secrets of Mana?
I don't know. I've never heard of Secrets of Mana.

or, if you're serious, "SoM felt Unfinished"
One way to troll /vr/ I guess.
Let's get a developer interviews thread going. Can someone here who knows JP translate what he's saying?

Is there any way to build a RPG with action combat?
combining it with Mugen will be aces
Yeah, Secret of Mana. Don't know why square is too retarded to at least put multiplayer on all their rpgs.
Learn a programming language.
Use the more flexible engines like Game Maker.
Also I found this after a cursory googling: http://www.engine001.com/
Learn Ruby/Javascript and spend so much time making scripts for RPG Maker you could have as well made a game from scratch.

This is a thread for the games of the awesome Model 2 arcade hardware from Sega. I played a lot of these games growing up, and still love to play them when I find them, or on the Model 2 emulator.
Motor Raid is an excellent combat racing game that was released as a conversion for Manx TT Superbike, and never ported. The handling and sense of speed are great, you can use a lot of different melee weapons, and the track environments are stylish and colorful.
What Model 2 games do you like, /vr/?
>>3196105
>Motor Raid
Gonna look this one up, looks interesting.
Easy mode answer, but still one of my favorite games of all time.
I recently touched the first DOA, just because I could. It was ... interesting.
Lacking arcade history/knowledge I don't even know what the system has to offer though. Quick glance around the web suggested a lot of fighting games and "shallow" racing games. Oh right, Sega Rally was the reason I obtained the Model 2 emulator to begin with. Need to hook up an analog controller for it though, and wrestle the stupid resolution issues of the emu. I only remembered Sega Rally from a demo back on Windows, and tried to recapture that.
Not sure what I'm looking for, but I think the system can do more than I'm aware of.
Is the PSX version really bad compared to others?
It's not the same game. Large portions of levels were taken out. The N64 was well-suited for 3D platformers, on PS with a few exceptions they look like ass. It was going to be an N64 exclusive at first and it shows.

But the Dreamcast is the definitive version.

or PC. it supports both directx and glide.
What is the best retro class-based RPG?
Fft
>>3195571
Depends on what you want from the game.
Most people are fine with class systems where the class is basically a label for the abilities you're going to learn and little else, others prefer more rigid rules such as penalties on equipment/abilities/stats, others prefer a design based purely on stats and/or embedded, non modifiable abilities.
I personally prefer the third model, so games like Romancing SaGa 2, Dark Law or Der Langrisser are probably some of the best in terms of RPG with classes for my taste.
I don't like the first model because at the end of the day classes mean nothing when you can modify stat growth and toolsets as you see fit like in FFT, it ends up being a game of super hybrids and overpowered specialists with no weaknesses or downsides at all in both cases, the only advantage is almost purely cosmetic since you can choose the sprite you like the best for our generics, which isn't bad for me since I'm more of an aesthetic>efficiency guy.
The second model is fine but it's usually ridden with stupid rules such as equipment restrictions that make little sense for me, I get that mages couldn't have the physique du role for a full plate, but I don't see why they can't equip a short sword or a crossbow and are forced to use staves and if you're lucky, daggers.
Though one class based game that I really appreciated in it's simplicity and rigid ruleset was Vantage Master, it has its flaws and ends up being more of a game of chess than a RPG, but it's pretty addictive once you get into it, even though it wasn't really my thing in regards to some class restrictions rules.

Final Fantasy 3 or 5.
When it comes to FFs, the ones with the job system are consistently awesome (Except X-2, that one is average)
Can we get a Bionic Commando thread going here?
Sure, no problem.
Sorry, I'm not feeling like it.
>>3195225
That's not Bionic Commando.
I'll start with:
Starfox 64
Mario Kart 64
Kirby 64
Bomberman 64
Pokemon Snap
Yoshi's Story
Mario Kart 64 and Starfox 64 were pretty much the only N64 games I thought were anywhere near good.
>>3195204
Super Mario 64
Banjo Kazooie
Donkey Kong 64
Diddy Kong Racing
Zelda Ocarina of Time
Mario Tennis 64

Is there any kind of good emulation for light gun games?
Possibly use a mouse if no good options for a gun?
Yes, you can use a Guncon 2 in Windows using a hacked driver but you need to be outputting a 15khz video signal.
>>3195060
I should had clarified.
I mean something for a modern gaming PC. Maybe some kind of VR thing?
Re-reading your OP it kind of has the flavor that you're not particularly experienced with emulation so to answer your question directly, yes you can use your mouse as a light gun in most modern emulators. It can also be kind of fun to tap-to-shoot on tablets. Maybe buy an old resistive touch screen and actually shoot it with airsoft pellets how fun would that be?
I was very excited at the prospect of buying Tetris today on 3DS eshop, but apparently I'm about a year and a half late to the fact that they were pulled from Virtual Console if favor of Tetris Ultimate. So are there any other good versions of Tetris out there worth getting instead? I've always seen the Gameboy version as the no-frills standard, but my options are quickly diminishing.
>>3194938
>So are there any other good versions of Tetris out there worth getting instead?
The New Tetris on N64 is the best fucking Tetris game around.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is the best modern way to play Tetris.
Also there's already a puzzle thread up, lurk more.

So I managed to pick up an NTSC SNES pretty cheap recently but I live in the PAL region. It came with a standard American AC adapter, with the two -pin end. I have an american-to-european adapter so that I can plug it in, but I'm worried about the voltage and frequency differences between NTSC and PAL regions, and whether or not it would be dangerous to plug it in without some kind of converter. I heard that some equipment is frequency and voltage insensitive, but I don't know much about the SNES.
Is there something I should know? Or is it pretty common to use an NTSC SNES in Europe? Any help would be appreciated.
>>3194926
If the adapter says something like "Input: 100-240V~, 50-60Hz," then you will be OK to use it without an additional converter.
American power lines are something like 110VAC RMS at 60 Hz, while your power is probably something like 220VAC RMS @ 50 Hz. If the adapter has all four of those numbers on it, it works in either situation. I don't know off the top of my head whether the original SNES adapter does or not. Newer replacement adapters probably do, as almost all contemporary consumer DC electronics use region-agnostic adapters.
>>3194936
Thanks, this reply was very helpful!
You can use a mega drive model 1 pal adapter if the us snes has the same polarity as the super famicom. Don't use a pal snes one, it'll work but it's not healthy for the system at all.
