You know, for a blatant Street Fighter ripoff, this game is a pretty competent one. The characters look cool if a bit derivative, the stages are nicely animated, and the music is god-tier. The weakpoint mechanic is pretty interesting if a bit unbalanced but it could work with more finetuning.

Kinda sucks that the IP died with Data East. Felt like it could have been something great. The Japan only SNES sequel had Chelnov as a guest character. How sick would it be to have this series had more and more Data East characters as it went on?

I love this series!
It's a pretty unique spin on the tried and true
Street Fighter 2 style games of the time.
I really love the battle damage aspect of this game where clothes would be torn and armor broken.
Much like how Art Of Fighting 2 did it but that game takes it to a whole new level of awesome.
Fighters History had some really cool characters as well as the infamous "Double German" attack that my friends and I still quote to this day.
>>
Mizoguchi appeared in King of Fighters Maximum Impact 2 Regulation A. What is it with fighting games and giant names?

Karnov was Data East's mascot.
Ryoko was based on Ryoko Tani, a real-life judoka (there's another one in World Heroes).

Arcadefag here. Never had a N64, are there any good arcade ports for it? All I can see to find are Midway games. Any arcade-like games for it maybe?

Anyway, weird question, but does /vr/ know of any games reminiscent of Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., or Ice Climbers? even recent indie games

I own a bunch of old SNES games from back in the day, but unfortunately, my SNES itself doesn't work anymore. Since I'm in the market, should I just get a replacement, or is there some sort of clone I could use instead?

Not entirely retro, but Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter does this. You accumulate a carry-over exp pool and unlock more scenes when you die or start new game +. Beating it on a first try is nearly impossible and not the best way to enjoy the game anyway (unless you enjoy that sort of challenge).

Beat the all-stars version once or twice, never cared for since it's just like all those shitty romhacks that try to make a game too frustrating for its own good.

Having a mechanic that actually punishes you for playing the game (ie. using a warp pipe) is not just stupid but also a spit in the fact to anyone who plays it.

I've been trying to find a game for a very long time, and I made a thread so other people can post their recollections as well.

It's a game about a house party with a bunch of monsters in it like Frankenstein and a mummy and a werewolf. You play as the rookie partner of this green detective guy in the crudely drawn image.

A couple other random details about it:
>There's a mini-game where theres mice in the cupboard
>At the end, you have to pick the culprit from a line up
>You get a badge with your name on it when you win
>I remember playing it on Windows 95 or 98 so it would have been in the late 1990's (or 2000?)

And I looked through Wikipedia's lists of games for each year in the 1990s, ctrl-f'ed "Monster", "Party" "House" "Detective" "Mystery" and got nothing. Please help if you can.

I found the fucking game guys I can sleep now

I remember playing a game in the late 90's I think it came with a 3D card my dad bought.

There was a desert and you had a sort of tank and some sort of shiruken was one weapon, there were enemy fighters like hawks and powerups scattered around. I never actually figured out how to move the tank - It wasn't the arrow keys. At the end it says how many civillians killed so I assume there was a settlement you had to protect. I think, in reflection it had a sort of dune feel, though I might be projecting this.

I think there was another game / demo on the same disc where there were platforms in the sky and the characters looked like egyptian gods and could fight each other I think.

Been trying to find out for years, actually one of my earliest gaming memories.
>>
There was a pretty old 2D sidescroller, you play the typical barbarian hero facing traps and many enemies, It was punishingly difficult and needed precision. All I really remember about it is the intro some demon rips the roof off a house and reaches in maybe taking a baby I think. Some expert posted an impressive run of it on youtube and I was wanting to see it.

Well /vr/, Mother's Day is this weekend and Father's Day just around the corner. Most of us got into gaming partially with the help of our parents. Many of who also loved games and shared their love of them with us.

So I thought we could have a thread in appreciation of all the gaming moms and dads out there that helped us get obsessed with them in the first place.

My parents were always really cool with getting us games and stuff, despite not playing much. My dad really liked watching us play though, I think it was just nice for him because he could rest/fall asleep while being around us after shift work. They're good people, I probably could never be as kind as they are.

I remember the day my dad brought an NES home. It was in November and said he had an early xmas present that couldn't wait. We played until I couldn't keep my eyes open that night and fell asleep to him playing Mario. What memories!

My dad had been really against video games. He would play a round of Wrestlemania sometimes but just spend the whole time running away.

Then I showed him Tetris. At first he was annoyed and didn't get it. "Why would I want to complete a line if it just disappears?" Then he "got" it and was hooked for years and years. Played it every night before bed for almost 15 years.

I'm a big fan of the combat related endings, first time playing got the Hero warrior endings I think and then tried to get all the other fighting type endings.

Why don't more RPGs, retro or not, elaborate on Chrono Trigger's battle format? The idea of menu-baded battles where enemies reposition in real time, and special attacks have AoE properties dependent on that positioning, is a really cool concept that CT didn't fully capitalize and Cross abandoned completely. Are there any other good games that employed this concept, preferably more strongly? (The closest out of anything I've played is Grandia 2 but the game outside of battles is kind of ass.)

Idk, try Live A Live -enemies and characters move at the same time
also, if movement, range and positioning is an important part of the battle system, the game should let you decide where your characters move IMO, it should never be under A.I. control

SRPGs usually implement movement and positioning, but not in real time as far as I know

It's a ship. Towerfags need not apply.
>>
Lunar does this. Combat takes on a sort of puzzle-like aspect where you try to align your timing and positioning in order to do it most efficiently (and then inevitably have to come up with new solutions each time someone levels up and your battle order changes).
