Play one game and post your score.

Thanks OP. I love score attack challenges, but not enough people on /vr/ do them.

Saw this on Woot, wrote it off as garbage. But then I got to thinking, if the native resolution of the projector is 320 x 240, would it be perfect for retro systems that output around that exact resolution? Anybody have experience with this device in that capacity? It's cheap, but I don't want to buy another piece of junk that's going to take up space. You can't look at reviews because they're evaluating it as a standard projector for modern content (which it's absolutely horrible at)
http://computers.woot.com/offers/pyle-mini-led-gaming-projector-6
honestly you'd be better off just finding a second hand CRT with better input options, even a pretty basic one. The picture from that will be pretty weak, you're right though, it'd still be better than a modern lcd tv.
>>3206172
Right I get that CRTs are better, that's why I have two of them. I was just curious about it from the stance of big-screen gaming when friends are over, just point it at the wall so no one can complain about a 27" TV or such. Looking to see if anyone has insight on this before I drop $40, who knows it might have hellacious input latency, even if it's marketed to "gamers"
>>3206156
I got 480p one, its nice for retro games and old TV shows. Brightness is really bad tho, you'll need a dark room
So, yeah, ecks cawm thread.
>tech has been stagnating for hours of playtime because I've been researching useless shit like the noob I am
>don't have any new tech in a while, keep shooting the same UFO's and the same aliens with my gauss rifles, completely dominating their xeno asses
>capture live ethereals by mobbing on them after dropping their UFOs, and finally discover PSI-lab
>go to a night terror mission afterwards, no problem
>my shuttle is full of rookies and a handful of pros because I always let my pros handle the scene and let the rookies just sit in the shuttle
>get completely ravaged by ethereals who beam their cosmic rays at my rookies
Goddamn son, these ethereals are not fucking around. Also, the overpowered sectopods are not helping my situation. They seem to be immune to gauss rounds and almost my whole crew carries gauss rifles.
>>3205992
is the Playstation version ok?
>>3205992
iirc sectopods are vulnerable to lasers? but i dont remember there being gauss weapons in the original, so you are probably on a modded version? at which point who knows if any of the traditional strengths and weaknesses i only half-remember still apply at all
>>3205992
also by god do not let pros handle the scene while leaving rookies to sit. if a higher-ranked person bites the dust its ruinous for the morale of lower-ranked ones, you could have a plane half-full of panicking rookies murdering each other if even one of the experienced troopers goes down. some people have their single highest-rank soldier hang back or sit in the skyranger for this reason, to minimize the risk they'll die and ruin the rest of the team's morale
if a rookie is sent on a mission this is their trial by fire. send those rookies in! but take note if they get mindfucked. if they survive the mission you should consider firing them anyways, you cant afford to be wasting equipment and a seat in the plane on someone without good natural psi resistance.
you should also review newly-hired recruits for critical stats such as accuracy and bravery, bravery especially is hard to raise by field experience, and someone who starts off with shit accuracy is unlikely to be able to gain any field experience either. fire such sub-standard recruits and get a fresh batch
if you need money to be able to handle this kind of turnover consider manufacturing and selling shit, i recall laser cannons had a good profit margin but who knows how it is in your version
Anyone have any experience storing video games in an attic? Had to move recently and lost a bunch of space. Was able to store some things at my sisters, but only in the attic. It gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Storing my snes and 64 and games amongst other things. Have the games and consoles in rubbermaid containers. Will they get damaged after so much time? Anyone store their games in an attic for a long period of time? Not ready to get rid of them yet.
Het is super bad for electronics bro. You're looking at serious stress on electrolytic capacitors, warped discs, brittle plastics...
I live in the northwest. It's probably gonna be about 100 at the hottest during the hottest days of the summer. You think it's still too hot?
I know it's not the greatest place to store them but just was hoping someone else had any experience storing them in similar places.
Unpopular opinion thread?
I think Blue Shift is better than Opposing Force because it has better levels, even if it lacks the additional weapons and enemies.
Blue Shift wasn't designed as an expansion, it was originally a third campaign in the Dreamcast / PS2 version along with DecayI think.
I see your point. But I think it comes down to Enemy/Weapon diversity vs. Level design. I'd also add game length because it is a very significant difference right there.
I can't offer an unbiased opinion because Blue Shift was the first Half-Life game I played. I love the game. Dearly. From the bottom of my heart. I've loved Opposing Force and I've loved Half-Life (which of course turned to be my favourite), but Blue Shift is like my first love who did nothing wrong and yet it could only give so much.
A bit more objectively, I'd say I enjoyed Opposing Force more on the long run. The new weapons are really fun to play with. Race X are actually rather boring by the end of the game, but dammit Shock Troopers can kick your ass in Hard. The diverse soldiers you can team up with is also quite interesting and it adds a little something. Not that meaningful considering the AI (advanced as it was for its time) but still it was a nice touch. The really underwhelming part was the final boss fight. Unnecessary is what I'd call it. Although the final scene with G-Man makes up for it.
Blue Shift is, on the other hand, a reduced Half-Life experince in every way. Game length, enemy-weapon diversity, story, etc. All are reduced to bare bones and a little less, I'd say. As you've mentioned Blue Shift has interesting level design. The whole railway stages are pretty intense. I remember as a kid I had a save file right before entering the first railway station in the open and I would play those stages over and over again.
I think I could make a point of Blue Shift being too little butter over too little bread, and Opposing Force having almost the same amount of bread as Half-Life but spread with margerine and sugar. Not quite the same as bread and butter, but still good on its own.
Also as a final note Blue Shift comes with the High Definition pack that I tend to prefer over the vanilla Half-Life. I know, I may be crazy but I grew up with it, sue me.

You think right.
They both had the trappings of the entire HL series -- linear style-over-substance setpiece-based FPS where you go from one little designed section to overcome to another.
Incredible how people will deride Halo as being a horrible, derivative shooter but put fucking Half-Life on a pedestal.
I've had a Sega CD since the early 90s but I never did all that much with it. I've got Sonic CD, Sewer Shark, and both Ecco Games. I had Spider Man vs the Kingpin at one point but the disk cracked.
What are some recommended games for it? I'd really like to get more use out of it.
Lunar
A Saturn
>>3205119
robo aleste and android assault are pretty boss.
Really want to region mod my mega cd so I can play lunar etc but i'm not sure how to do it.
Hey, /vr/,
I wasn't on the internet before 2004, so I don't really know of any truly classic online games. Someone posted a thread for Endless-Online here last night and that piqued my interest for something of that vein. Can anyone recommend me some games of the late 90s, early 2000s that still have at least 10 people playing?
wouldn't let me post without an image

Welcome to 4chan
Maybe try Everquest
It's not worth it. They're infested with slavs and sugarcane noggs.
The only way to do it is if you have a group of buddies. Since clans also are basically a thing of the past.
Welp I just sold all the junk genesis games I had for a cool $100 and have a deal pending on the cased set for $150, ordered an everdrive. what do I do with the rest? sega cd2 or 32x? get a different console? buy a stack of 3do games?
save your money for your wife's sons college
What's supposed to come with a 32X, it's got it's own power supply right? Anything else?
I'd say 32x, better games than the CD imo. The Everdrive is compatible with the 32x iirc (correct me if I'm wrong), so you'd have all the games you need right out of the box.
What are some franchises that were apparently big during 5th and earlier gens that failed to make it to 6th and later gens?
Stuff like Battle Arena Toshinden.
>>3203874
I miss 90s Obari anime tiddies
>>3203898
They are as disgusting as modern waifus.
>>3203904
I agree but there is just something about his shitty over the top designs that I like.
When is it cheating to use a turbo function, and when is it just plain good sense?
In shmups that don't have turbo as standard, probably always.
That doesn't stop me though. If there was a way to keep the game as difficult as intended without pressing hundreds of times a minute, I'd go with that, but for now I'd rather not have RSI.
>>3203735
>I'd rather not have RSI
Seconded. Who gives a fuck if you're just playing by yourself?
>>3203752
Kinda ruins some games
Anyone use Fightcade? It has a pretty active community.
Even at this time, people are playing KoF 98.
>>3203586
Where is the new version with snes games added to the active list
>>3203592
They're making that? I would play the shit out of TMNT Tournament Fighters online.
Can we all agree Hammer Bros are jerks?
https://youtu.be/jyeGXxtK-Mw
I can't take this video seriously at all, I can't stop laughing someone has a puppet YouTube channel......I like it.
GIT GUD.
Been a while since I worried about Hammer Bros. in old SMB, but in not-retro Mario Maker, I typically stand close to one, wait for the three hammer throw, then quickly jump on it.
Any Syphon Filter lovers here? I replayed it recently and it's every bit as good as i remember it. People always call it ghetto Metal Gear or shit but i think that's really undeserved, the combination of heavy stealth missions and run 'n' gun action is impeccable. Also it's one hell of an achievement considering it's made by people who made Bubsy 3d.

Good magazine adverts too.
I liked how the targeting worked in the series.
The SF trilogy is great, I play it all the time, it's a thousand times better than modern shooters.
>>3203210
A poor man's Metal Gear that has become completely forgotten as a franchise.
King's Quest is a series without a single good game.
>>3202808
You're right, they're pretty awful. The only value is nostalgia. But at the time the first few were unique, ground-breaking, immersive and all sort of other things.
In 30 years there will be kids online saying how the Elder Scrolls series had no good games.
>>3203823
In 30 years time maybe Bethesda can do ladders
