Who knows some old horror games that are actually scary? In Illbleed you are afraid of the level itself, rather than the enemies in it, and it doesn't forget that horror stops being scary once it's predictable

Hellnight, perhaps?

Skies of Arcadia Legends
Ikaruga

Good Idea?
>Terranigma
>Skies of Arcadia Legends
great ones.
I always plan on replaying SoA aswell but never actually do, dunno why.
Ditch the other 2 atleast until you finished those 2 first.
>>3195825
Dreamcast is not retro.
>>3195825
>Spiderman 2
I could never beat shocker, even when i replayed the game recently, i just cant do it
Gotta love retro Sega
>>3194581
Nah, it's cool, like 3D is the future.
What is /vr/´s opinion of this game?
It's bad because there is only one way to play it and that is to go to the last island right away without fighting anything and then grap all the unprotected treasure.
>>3194280
Game is great, just terrible filters.
It can be beaten in under 10 seconds.

Why was the SNES backwards compatible with the NES?
It wasn't. Probably done to keep hardware costs within reason.
>>3194146
Dont you mean why wasnt it?
Because backwards compatibility is for the foolish goyim who doesn't think about making money.
Favorite Flintstones game?
>>3192095
Well not that one geez
>>3192095

>Wanna play Final Fantasy, Lufia, The 7th Saga, or Shin Megami Tensei?
>Don't have a SNES?
>Fuck you, you're getting Phantasy Star instead
So did people actually like this series back in the day, or is it just sour grapes due to the fact that the Genesis has no other RPG's?
>>3188867
Look at the date in your picture and then look at the release date for any of those games on the SNES. There's your answer.
Also
>due to the fact that the Genesis has no other RPGs?
Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy, Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Arcus Odyssey, Fatal Labyrinth, Landstalker, Light Crusader, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shadowrun, Uncharted Waters, Sword of Vermillion, and (arguably) Ys III. It's not even close to the extensive SNES RPG library, yes, but also far from "no other RPG's".
>>3188867
Phantasy Star IV alone is better than every SNES RPG.
But there's SMT for the Mega CD.
Didn't see one in the catalog
How do I git gud at Rush games? All I can finish is 4th tops.
Lots of quarters and shortcuts.
A shopping mall in my area has a real Sega Rally machine. I've spent the past year or so figuring out its tricks almost every time I visit there. My current best championship time is 3:23:63, done using a manual Celica. Any other Sega Rally drivers here? How do I compare?
>>3187270
You're no Michael Schumacher.
A real cab? Nice, I've only played emulated version.
Whats the best game in the Mario universe and why is it Yoshi's Island?
You're opening a real can of worms here
>>3187176
my body is ready
The fact that threads like these cause such a shitstorm is just a testament to how great the series is. You can make a good argument that any one of the Mario games is the best, and it seems that almost every game has equal support, as opposed to Zelda where most fans back ALttP or OoT. Each game manages to have its own flavor that some love and some don't, which results in such diverse opinions on what the crown jewel truly is.But seriously though, Super Mario 64 is the best.
In lieu of the other thread, what are some of the best box arts you've seen for video games? Pic related in my opinion. I'll dump a few to get it rolling.

I'll post one more after this.

bam
Are they trolling us with this collection? It's one thing to only put like 9.5 games in a collection in the first place. Why the fuck would they choose to make one of them Altered Beast?
Is there anyone out there who likes that game at all? It's slow and boring as fuck and even looks like shit. Both Streets Of Rages are way better if they wanted a beat em up in there.
On top of that, why when they've already done Fantasy Zone 2W would they waste time doing regular Fantasy Zone 2 for SMS? It's not even a good 3D port. Does anyone out there understand what the heck they're thinking with this?
>>3183328
altered beast is a good game because you turn into monsters
It's almost as if licensing issues hamper the choices of games they can include or something, right?
>>3183336
Obviously no one is expecting them to port Moonwalker, but there are much better games they already ported they could have included instead. Gunstar Heroes, Space Harrier, Shinobi 3, Sonic 2, Outrun, Afterburner 2, even Ecco The Dolphin all would have been better choices than Altered Beast.
Does anybody really like game gear?
its got
>shit games
>shit battery life
>shit resolution
pros:
>color screen
i'm not convinced any non-collectors would ever play game gear. redpill on game gear, game gear lovers
Why would you ask us to redpill you on it when it sounds like you've already made your conclusion?
>>3178502
maybe some anons fuck heavy with game gear and know some god tier games for it.
>>3178498
I only had Sonic Triple Trouble and Tails Adventure, it was alright. I had an ac adapter so I didn't have to waste batteries
When it comes to the NES's soundchip, what do you think about the triangle wave?
For those who aren't aware, basically the NES has 3 channels in its sound hardware that can produce tones: two can produce "bleepy" pulse waves, and the third is a smooth-sounding triangle wave that's usually used for bass. Here's a good example of what it sounds like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyAkIMP3z8Q
I've always wondered why Nintendo chose to include this in the NES's soundchip. On one hand, it makes the NES sound different from other consoles at the time. On the other, dedicating an entire channel to this sound makes little sense, as it's not a versatile sound at all, and the lack of volume control basically forces it to be used for basslines.
Do you think it was a good decision for Nintendo to use this sound instead of something else, like another pulse wave? Also, post examples of good (and bad) uses of the triangle wave in NES music.
it works well for bass, and is going to be more audible through shitty TV speakers than a sine wave
>>3177606
It actually would've been harder to implement a sine wave into the NES at the time.
The NES's triangle wave had a very course amplitude resolution, it looks more like a series of stairs than an actual triangle. That's what gives it those characteristic metallic harmonics as opposed to triangle waves sounds generated by many other synths and such.
