How fast can you swing that Cipher?
>>3225332
Faster than Sonic the Hedgehog shitting out a turbo turd after eating a shit load of chili dogs.
Pretty goddamn fast, you commie motherfucker.
>>3225332
I already did, asshole
Do any of you guys feel nostalgic enough towards Phantasy Star Online to want to come play? Remember the thrill of hunting through the same map over and over for that precious red box? We recently started a small little group of players and already have over 50 people, some of which are already into the Ultimate level.
The people over at Ephinea made their server after SCHThack went under and had to admit to losing every player's data. Not only that, but the administration of SCHThack was incompetent - we figured out ways to powerlevel to ultimate in an hour and cheat through challenge mode. Despite suspicious activity, we were never banned. Ephinea is a lot more like the original, live server and has a ton of quality of life improvements, such as PSO2 style drops and allowing you to change your section ID before level 20. The client is only 500mb and in the launcher are also custom options, such as upscaling the game to larger resolutions.
Check out Ephinea over at http://ephinea.pioneer2.net/
Also if you want to join our community, which can be useful for finding people to play with, we have a Discord over at https://discord.gg/010NN4N1NjMUp2EeY

How did a series so terrible get so many games?
>>3224787
Don't remember anything like it when it first came out. Was pretty frightening & the 3d engine was cool.
The first one was pretty decent for it's time and Resident Evil was a Alone in The Dark clone.
Because it's good, it's just been imitated and drastically improved
Just discovered this series and holy shit is some of the cover artwork beautiful.
Should I get this? I've got a 2 hour commute there and back to class twice a week for the next four years and I need my phone to not die before I get home.
It's in my price range, I'm really considering it.
>>3224658
If I see you riding my bus with this shit, I will not hesitate to scream 'nerd' at the top of my lungs.
>>3224663and then we can play timespitter's 2 or something right

Are you a fan of interlacing?
(This gif flickers in 50 Euro Hertz because gifs can't go beyond 50fps.)
>>3224620
>Are you a fan of interlacing?
Not an issue with retro games.
That gif doesn't show what flicker actually looks like.
>>3224632
>Not an issue with retro games.
Retro games have interlacing. Who said it's an issue? Weirdo.
I absolutely love shitty shaking low resolution modes! In fact it's so good I wonder why display standards even progressed past 480i.
so hear me out guys, i've got a pretty good idea for us. i've been programming/web dev for well over a decade blah blah blah ahead of time so you know i'm not just some newbie fag. anyway, i'm thinking about doing a /vr/ recommended/best of site where everyone can submit games (anonymously) to a queue for me (perhaps some of you?) to moderate and generate pretty lists based on hashes.
what i mean is... for example let's say someone uploads Sonic 3. you'll be required only add at LEAST a hash tag for #genesis and #megadrive but then you can do things like #platformer #versus #anthropomorphic etc. on down the line and we can edit those later. THEN down the left hand side of the site is just a simple alphabetized list of every major hash tag we have. you click it and it filters the games by that hash.
now it's not to catalog every fucking game in the world. it's just for the really recommendable ones we all tend to like. what do you guys think?
Alright lets reddit/twitter this shit up.
No, recommendation sites are stupid. Just look up Mobygames for tagged games.
>>3224589
Be prepared to get spammed endlessly by assholes, flooded with different spellings for each game, and redundant-but-differently-named genre categorizations (eg. "beatemup" vs "belt scroller"). Leaving it open for just anybody to submit entries is going to be hell to moderate and sanitize.
I'm looking to start hooking my retro consoles up to my laptop rather than a TV just for desk convenience (can't carry my Trinitron with me anymore, it's too big and heavy). I only have experience with an Easycap plug with looks iffy with an SNES and Saturn and terrible with a Genesis. What's recommended to use instead? Not looking to record, just to play.
Extreme U3 or whatever was at one point considered almost lagless. It uses only HDMI I believe. I would look towards something that cost more than that EasyCAP so you can get "near lagless" game capture.
>>3224574
Input lag has never been an issue for me, at least when it came to Easycap.
Someone said "get an ElGato" but I don't know how that handles retro stuff.
>>3224603
probably the same as anything else really. you would have to watch some youtube videos to see quality differences. if you don't notice any input lag then get an elgato or avermedia cheap device. im not sure but imma guess your gpu settings will allow you to black bar the picture to keep aspect ratio.
Do you guys think this is ethical? I can understand with games that are super expensive or import-only in Japanese, but the Dracula X Rondo of Blood copies this guy sells seems shady as shit, especially when you can currently buy the game on PSP or on virtual console. Since the game is available through legitimate means, I can't believe he hasn't received a C&D for it yet.
>>3224509
Why bother buying these sorts of bootlegs?
Might as well just pirate it at this point.
While I don't mind selling repros in theory (plenty of shops offer GEN/SFC/FC repros), and while I do not deny that PCEWorks' products are of high quality, I also agree that a few of the items for sale are a bit on the questionable side.
There was some type of furor in smaller game communities about how he used fan-translations for several games without the permission of the translators, and that he wouldn't split the profits with the translators either. There seems to be a lot of bad blood there, though later the guy tried to make nice by printing a lot of free copies of just the bare CDs for anyone who wanted a copy, essentially just charging for the fluff packaging.
I'm also amazed that the Dracula X package didn't receive a CnD, considering it's a high-profile game from a huge, still-active company. I guess all the better for people who wanted, uh, the "Dracula X Energy Drink."
>>3224532

what does /vr/ think of Dr. Mario?
It's alright. Prefer Tetris.
I always really liked it
lately i've just been playing columns if anything
He's a quack. Went in with the flu, he told me to take these unknown pills because "the colors matched". How did this loony ever make it through med school?

BAM. You are inside a Computer
I keep hearing how emulators, even for very old system like the snes are inacurate.
How come? Is there a vídeo showing said inacuracies? I cant notice no matter what
Depends on your definition of 'inaccurate' and what kind/degree of inaccuracy you give a rat's ass about.
Honestly a lot of the people who bitch about inaccuracy are just trying to justify the hundreds if not thousands of dollars they've sunk into muh original hardware and muh genuine cartridges.
The emulators are that, emulators. Your PC doesn't have the original hardware parts older consoles had, it's all done through software and reverse engineering.
There is no emulator that is 100% accurate but many come pretty close you wouldn't normally notice a difference, NES and Genesis are mostly pretty well emulated. SNES too, although some games still have some hiccups (FX chip, etc) and it doesn't work too well in some systems (PSP SNES emulator is famous for being shit).
The real stinker comes with 5th gen consoles, with that you're just better getting the real systems and burning CD-Rs/getting an everdrive.
By the way most people have low standards so they don't even care, I know a lot of people who claim the PSP SNES emulator isn't bad and I'm sure some people here will also claim that. That's ok, some people don't mind the emulators not being 99% accurrate.
>>3224171
>I know a lot of people who claim the PSP SNES emulator isn't bad and I'm sure some people here will also claim that
I haven't used it before, how bad is that emulator exactly?
>renaming the characters in Japanese JPRGS
It's ok if it's Aeris->Aerith.
Other exceptions may exist but that's the one I encountered.
>naming the main character after yourself
>living vicariously through your characters instead of guiding them like a wizened sage
>>3224037
>aerith
You're making me really fucking mad right now
I just got Shin Megami Tensei If from mail. Any tips for the game and for a guy who does not speak Japanese very well
Also a General Shin Megami tensei /SMT/ I guess
>>3223982
>Any tips for the game and for a guy who does not speak Japanese very well
You're in luck, you don't have to speak Japanese at all to play it. You just need to be able to read it.
>>3224015
kek
>>3224018
No seriously, you see this game is from a time before voice acting in videogames. So you can play with just the 50.000 kanji in the Dai Kan-Wa Jiten.
Where will you be when the Mega Drive turns 30?
>>3223975
that's in like 2 years
so most likely, pulling my pud right here
