I have a weird question, /tg/.

When it comes to the requirements of a prophecy, magic or weaponry, how often do you bend the rules? For instance, swords that can only be wielded by someone of a particular bloodline are extremely common, as well as magic that can only be used by a virgin.

If someone is of appropriate moral character, but doesn't meet the criteria, should he still be able to pull it off? I'll leave out the context in this instance, because my most recent session had this come up as a significant problem.

I'll admit that as the DM, the gamist in me feels that the 'rules are rules' idea works better, because fudging the requirements feels a bit too special snowflakish. Like, Excalibur was only there for King Arthur to use, for example, not Lancelot.

It's actually a diversion set up by rich parents to give their kids a diversion and they have only the illusion of power.

Looking for some interesting/funny things for an irresponsible/dickish elder race to do. I’m setting up a sci-fi world builder where humanity was the elder race and left behind tons of weird stuff. So far I’ve come up with the following.

-Left ringworlds and Dyson spheres.
-Created a bioweapon but never disposed of it afterward.
-Sent robots time traveling into the future to gather samples (the robots attack the players on contact).
-Removed a plane of the universe from existing.
-Uplifted civilizations in ways that screw over the uplifted.
-Bioengineering monsters and other things.
-Detonated various celestial bodies in weapons tests wrecking nearby areas.
-Intentionally terraformed a planet to be the biggest hellhole possible even though there are nice minerals there.
-Left weapons of mass destruction sitting around.
-Trapped robots on a planet to see how long it would take them to get through the acidic atmosphere. Robots hate other sapients now.
-Decided that magic should be a thing and created a force of physics that controls it, but made it ridiculously complicated and easy to mess up.
-Opened an interdimensional gate, shut it when horrors from beyond showed up, didn’t bother to demolish the gate.
-Started building a giant galaxy-wide network of automated defenses that stop combat of any type but get bored and stopped leaving it halfway constructed.

Anyone got more good ideas?

CURRENT EVENTS:

Despite a great and impressive force of adventurers, heroes and champions of Order coming down to destroy the Necromancer's hordes once and for all at the great attack on the Convent, the Necromancer still roams free. His undead horde, though defeated and scattered, will surely recover - it is but a matter of time. Time that our heroes must spend wisely, so as to uncover as much hidden lore ad knowledge on the Necromancer. Perhaps even finding a way to finally defeat him. In fact - it seems as though the attack on the Convent went according to the Necromancer's plans to create a great feast of flesh and blood for his Gods. This sacrifice might've done much more to strengthen him than to weaken him, which makes it all the more important to track him down, find his lair, and take it before he can raise another horde.

With the Necromancer creating ever more powerful minions, always having ample ways to escape or hide himself, and seems to have hidden supporters who are procuring prodigious amounts of war materiel for him, his victory seems like an inevitability. This makes it all the more important to find out how the Necromancer even got all the material he needed to arm such a large horde, and stop this before he creates even greater weapons and armour for his horde.

Much of the world is still unaware of the threat that the Necromancer poses. If the people of Silea Ravni are to have any chance of opposing the Necromancer, they must come together - and soon.
