No you need to write out a short story for every attack roll.

Honestly we don't even describe attacks, just kills, as describing every hit with the vague abstraction of hp anyway is a big waste of time.

Basically, quirks are the result of a person effectively being 'magically irradiated' similar to the Spelltouched feats in the 3.5 unearthed Arcana.

Though in this case, the spelltouched effects can be passed down through bloodlines and also are a bit more awesome (sometimes) than just "you are immune to magical fires, but not mundane ones"

Are games designed primarily for more than two player doomed to fail?

I think when it comes to a TCG yes. But if you wanted something like what I'm slowly working on, a group card game, you should be fine. You can still hold tourney's and stuff.

The biggest thing people try to do with those styles of games is over think them. You can try and be the first ya know?

They're ... not sure if I should say successor or offshoot of the Mantis Warriors.
I'm fully embracing their preference for guerrilla warfare and flyers. If a ground vehicle has a flyer that's at all similar to it, they use that instead.
They're recruiting like mad so most of their troops are scouts with a few tacs and no primaris troops. Though they have Reivers and those jump packs primaris as they both support their preferred means of war.
As a chapter, they're seeking to make up for their former mistakes. The Mantis Warriors are lead by a council made of the heads of their apothecaries, librarians, chaplains, and techmarines; the two primaris lieutenants; and their chapter master.
Only one battle company because there's only like 100 full marines left after the whole Tyranids and Deathwatch thing, while the primaris are shunted off into their own separate, smaller company.

You can't really separate Sword & Sorcery from Conan since it's such a primary example of it. Take out too much strong barbarian warriors, or too much evil demonic ritual sorcery, or too much reluctant heroism and you lose the whole point of the thing.

It's like trying to do a western. You're going to need saloons, sixguns, bank heists, stagecoach robberies, train robberies, cattle and horse rustling, mexican banditos, apache warriors, booming silver and gold towns, and the posses which deal with them. Cut out even half of that and the whole thing is too flat to sustain even a short campaign.

The stereotypes are there specifically because they're interesting and can keep being so over years and decades.

Okay well, let me ask it this way: how do I make it interesting without it being *just* a ripoff of Howard's stuff. Sure, the elements you outlined are entirely part of the genre and, frankly, essential (and pretty awesome). The question is more what ways are there to keep it fresh?

8th edition? Nothing, I think its great. Sure it may be too abstract and 'gamey' in some aspects but so far its miles ahead of 6th-7th ed, specially for casual games now that you can build a decent army out of your collection and win agaisnt a better army.

There's no more unbeatable OP armies and Apocalypse tier weaponry where entire units are invalidated.

Make interesting characters who happen to be Orcs.

Make interesting scenarios lead by characters who happen to be Orcs.

Don't focus on the Orc bit, a race is never inherently interesting, focus on what they do and why they do it, that's what makes something interesting.
