Think of the most powerful ability/power that you can think ofNo really anon, think of one right nowGot it?Someone with that exact power is now out to eliminate you from existence. How do you counter it?Easy mode: You gain a power of a similar power levelHard mode: You gain a lesser power that is incomparable to it (Or you're in a world where characters have powers or spells)New York Minute mode: You are an ordinary human with no powers to speak ofThe ability to be physically unknown, make enemies completely unaware of your presence, and he has some weird sharp ass weapon that he uses to fuck your skull up with (But you obviously don't know that)
I chose omnipotence.
I lost.
>>43605265
He's omnipotent
Easy mode I'm also omnipotent
We have angry god sex
>>43605268
So did I.
Here's to hoping you can wish the other guy out of existence faster than he can.
I have a quick question which I'm hoping /tg/ might be able to help with, no one else seems to!
What would be the best way to launch a helicopter from a modern airship? I'm trying to get "realistic" or "believable" ideas, such as side ramps/hatches which fold down/slide open to allow the helicopter to taxi out and take off, or possibly a top section on the airship - I don't know how modern construction methods would work with this.
Basically, I'm writing a novel set in a slightly alternate now where airships and helicopters are the norm for reasons, and if a helicopter carrier was developed, how it might work.
Thanks!
>>43604749
>taxi out and take off
....are you talking about helicopters or planes?
>>43605626
Probably he means helicopters, but they can definitely taxi, if they've got wheels on the bottom like some military birds do.
Uhh, your picture is literally the only way it works.
Helicopters need to go up from a flat stable surface.
Also you keep saying "airship", but it sounds like what you really mean is a zeppelin/balloon shit. If you have helicopter technology, there's no reason to use shitty balloons anymore. People would just build a big fucking helicopter/helicarrier like in the picture you posted, and have smaller helicopters on top of it.
Either that or make silly Final Fantasy style airships that are just boats with helicopter parts strapped to them, but are not realistic.
Hello, /tg/
I've stumbled here on this picture and decided to make a quick excel spreadsheet based on it. It's pretty basic (and there still might be typos made by text recognition software), but formulas adjust for "choose two" and "choose three" options.
Here's the link

Just keep pressing F9 to generate your damn settings.
Nice spreadsheet-fu, OP.
Planet does not tilt. Two or more moons. Full grassland, low precipitation, low humidity, one pathogen, multiple prey (mostly lizards), egyptian antiquity, precolonized south asia. Elves. Common, weak supernatural power. No other civs. Value convenience, medicinal economy, african folk religion, republic government, wildlife as defining feature, overall theme "encouraging disaster", campaign starts "You gave a vision", religious cult leader as enemy.
So, Elves who value convenience, economy based on medicinal value, wildlife as defining feature, mostly lizards as wildlife, low precipitation low humidity but grassy.
It looks like DRAGONS are the main animals here. Their lifeblood makes the land grassy, instead of arid. They're used for medicinal purposes, and for magical convenience. Why eat eighteen or more meals when you can eat a dragonsteak that sustains you for a week?
Theme "Encouraging disaster"; the elves are causing dragons to adapt and become abundant, and they value ease over better. Add to this a religious leader who things dragon-spirits deserve to rule and we have ELVEN DRAGOPOCALYPSE.

How did you manage this OP?

/tg/ there's something I'm wondering and I'd like it if you could clear it up for me.
Why are there so many different OSR/retroclone games?
I don't mean that in the sense of "don't like what I don't like", but - they're all based on basic D&D, right? Isn't that too limited a base for there to be so many clones of it? It's like if there were 20 remakes of A New Hope. Yeah, it's a good movie, but surely you eventually run out of ways to remake it.
Am I missing something? Is there actually a huge world of difference between different retroclones that I'm just not seeing?
It's the system that most people are the most familiar with so they'll try to fit a game into the system rather than learn a new system.
>>43604685
I get that, but you'd only need a handful of retroclones for that. What difference between them necessitates having so many?
I feel the same way OP, though I've never done more than flick through retroclone pdfs.
Seems to me they just like juggling around the stats and modifiers. So you could probably just do it as a setting\modification of most any d20 system BUT you're much more likely to get noticed if you publish as your own system, so there's that.
In this thread we post any cool and inspirational art. If you got a request, make it.
Personally I'm looking for pegasus art.

I just saw this image and was inspired. It shows a simple existential dilemma that we've all faced in our lives.
Just look at the guy's posture, he REALLY needs to take a shit. Now look in front of him, there isn't a working toilet for miles and miles. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.

Help a fellow anon here and tell me what is the best way to start on Warhammer 40k? I have played the dawn of war series and am trying to get into the table top game with a couple of friends. Are Necrons a good set to start off with or are there better factions?
>>43604309
Pick a faction that you like the most... be prepared to lose a lot.
Personalize your army so win/lose you enjoy taking it out for a spin.
Start with a battle box or something, and add to it as you feel like.
>>43604343
I'll go with Necrons then.
Is there a particular set up you like using with any of the factions?
>>43604343
>Pick a faction that you like the most... be prepared to lose a lot.
Unless you pick necrons
>>43604441
The first question I would ask is what kind of army are you looking for? How important is being competitive or are you ok with an army this is fun but will almost never win?
this is how I BBEG.
Why is people only getting Nox recently? I mean, Wakfu been out for years now

What method of rolling for initiative does /tg/ prefer, and why? A D&D like "highest to lowest declares and performs an action in order"? An OWoD/Exalted like "highest declares last but performs first"? Something else?
>>43604069
I honestly have never found one I liked, and I wish I could because initiative is one of the biggest roadblocks to me enjoying combat in any RPG. I have never played one where I liked the fighting, only ones where I didn't hate it and Savage Worlds, where the whole point is to get it over with as quickly as possible.
This is bad, because one of my "lazy DMing" tricks is to throw a fight at the party to stall for time. My players never have their shit together when it's not a fight they planned for ahead of time, so it almost always gets me time to think. Does anyone have any good/unique initiative systems that are preferably setting agnostic?
>>43604069
>>43604110
Do the Bolt Action method throw dice into a bag and draw who gets to go next?
No possible way to increase your initiative but if you like dynamic and the unknown this could be fun. A player could have two consecutive turns or have a gigantic gap.

What is it about the dragon that makes it such an iconic symbol of fantasy? Almost all the game systems I've seen (that are in a fantasy setting) feature them heavily. Hell, they show up a lot more in fiction in general than trolls or goblins or orcs.
Is it simply because of how often they were used in various legends and myths, or does it go deeper?
>>43603091
Good question. Dragons have always featured prominently in the legends and myths of major world cultures. I heard a theory that they represent a hybrid of all the predators of early man, but I think that's nonsense.
The spread has to be Tolkien's fault somehow, morphed into their current shape by DnD, just like so many other races.
This is horribly off-topic, but I'm looking for a picture where the royalty has been killed, leaving the prince to be raised by a dragon, and he then gets a massive Oedipus complex.
It's been annoying me for several days now.

Seems legit, OP.
What sort of general advice would a guidebook for hunters of the supernatural have?
Your assumptions are wrong.
Your methods are faulty.
Your weapons are inadequate.
Knowledge is the greatest asset one can have when facing the supernatural, both of the enemy, and of oneself.
>>43601708
Never consider anything "dead" until it is in at LEAST five sepatate pieces.
Even then, cremate each piece individually to be sure, but never on a new moon.

Hey guys what do you think about MDF Terrain? Lots of people seem to make this stuff, but is it any good compared to the typical source for wargame terrain like foam or plasticard?
I have to admit unpainted they look a bit too jigsaw puzzley but I guess you cover that up with paint.
>>43601702
they're getting cheaper, but they take forever to paint, even with an airbrush.
>>43602232
true I suppose. most plain terrain is flat so a quick coat is all they eed (heck maybe even use a roller) but mdf tends to have all these wacky groves and patterns
