>The year is 2207
>A popular card game is widely played on Earth, the Moon, and on Mars
>Inter-world tournaments are commonplace
>A massive solar storm cuts Earth off from its colonies for a hundred years
>Travel and communication are finally re-established

Assuming this card game is still popular on all three worlds, could they still play against each other?
17 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Eventually. Initially, you'd have variance in ruleset as well as various card lists which might not be considered balanced by one anothers rules, but assuming the core principles of the game remained you could recreate a 'standard' ruleset, while also maintaining planetary variant rules.
>>
>>43624140
>you could recreate a 'standard' ruleset

No need to create new rules.
Just use the Earth rule-set. It has retained its purity.
>>
>>43624211

That's a very terra-centric worldview. The Colonials might have some disagreements there.

Is there anyway to make a game where the party is a tank crew mechanically fun in combat?
21 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>43624040
Possibly, if the system made it obvious that every member of the crew contribute to how well the tank operates. Overall gunner's the half of it. He'd get bonuses based upon how well the commander is at spotting and giving out commands, then pluses or minuses based upon what the driver is doing. Can't fire unless the loader does his job, loader would probably have the worse of it. Other crew members vary depending upon the tank.
>>
>>43625146

It would he difficult to give every class something to do that's both relevant to running the tank and gives them meaningful decisions every turn, wouldn't it? If the loader's only action every turn is "load cannon" while the gunner chooses targets, the loader isn't really getting to do shit.
>>
I've often pondered this, constructing a system around the idea of every player being a member of a crew of something, whether it's a Power Rangers style mecha, a starship or a tank. I think it could work, but it'd require a huge amount of good design to make it really fun.

[Realm of Zagrom]
Color: Yellow
Race: Albino Goblins [led by a dragon]
Racial Description: Zagrom the Insular has developed something of a reputation for sloth and aloofness during his formative years, but as he grew older his desire for things became insatiable. Eventually, he assumed nominal control over a series of small tribes near his cavern; this cemented his entry into the underdark.
Dark Energy: 1 (+1 a turn)
Population: 86 (+6 a turn) [Breeding Pits][Brood Mothers]
Favour: 5 (+1/turn: Shadowrend)

Geography: [Dark Radiation Pits][Dark Energy Ore, Irradiated]
Misc: [Shadowrend][Artifact Skull:+1 Hex/Coordination]
[Adv] Might of a Dragon: Anytime you're involved in combat, the enemy may elect to flee rather than face you.

Stage 105: Another Point of View Entirely.

You sit on the grass, looking at the trees, watching the leaves stir. By and large the world is colorless here, except for a very few of the very oldest trees here, and of course the sky himself. Shades of grey, tints of grey, with the occasional lustrous brown and deep green. Even the earth here is washed out, only slightly tinted brown because it is earth. It had to be brought here from somewhere else, so it is dulled, grey and soft and fragile.

You look up at Amaterasu-Omikami, and she smiles down at you, her light giving the world some much needed warmth, and you bask in it. You're allowed to be here only because it's very close to the temple doorway; the others are watching over your companion in arms, a gift from them. There are others here, soft, grey, washed out people, only a very few tinted with faint color, though there are three exceptions for the moment. None of them are here, so they're not really that important. No one is bothering you, and that's more than you could have ever asked for.

The soft, cool voice of your master interrupts your reverie, and you crane your head back and up to look up at her without moving your body, an act that seems to distress your master for some reason. It isn't as though your master is incapable of exactly the same thing.

Hey guys, let me know when you are here!

After checking on the mess the girls did, we just... we just went to bed. Yeah, lets just go to sleep and forget about the honey handprints on the floor, the honey footprints on the roof, the feathers sticking to the honey everywhere, and the pile of girls cuddling as they sleep with honey dripping from their lips. Where did they get so much honey from, anyway!?

No,no, let's just go to bed. We'll deal with it in the morning.

Stuck in a bit of a wicket here /tg/

My players are a cyberpunk hit squad for the totalitarian empire ruling the last cybercities on a mostly nuked earth.
They fight terrorists and win a lot.

They ran into some guys who call themselves HYDRA. One sleeper agent got in their squad as a medic, and then "betrayed them" partway through a mission by blowing himself up with hidden nanoexplosives. Lots of fearful reactions, as the guy passed all screenings and didn't reveal he was a secret agent (good at his job).

Some other minor run ins aside, they know HYDRA had wiretaps on a ton of the highly regulated Internet traffic, and that agent, but not much else in the way of presence in the game. Players have decided they are on the side of evil.

Far from it, they are the only organizational that knows the eldritch gods have awoken, and HYDRA is trying to stop them at all costs.

Hello, we will run for about three hours. Next thread will be a Cont. for sure.

You and Anglo spent the rest of the day running away from the thorn. You shared one cram with your friend just in case, you slept with a growling stomach and shivering body.

You woke up from a terrible nightmare. You couldn't remember it in details but the cries in it felt so real. You just shook it off and continued.

The snow had a greenish tint. It wasn't like that yesterday "A radstorm....She is coming." Anglo stared at the perturbed skies. it was snowing green snowflakes.

It's the Human World.

The surroundings in this part of the world are mountainous and dusty. The ground is rocky and somewhat unpleasant to stand on, even indoors. Or, well, whatever remains of these particular 'indoors'.

The roof of the stone building is almost completely gone, having collapsed or been blown off in its entirety. You're not responsible - it was like this when your group arrived.

Even though this house is by no means small, the only reason everybody is able to fit in on a single floor is because the rooms are no longer fully separated by walls. There's a lit barrel in the center of the room, giving off warmth to keep everyone safe from the cold night.

It's hot at daytime, but it's easy to freeze when the sun goes down. Well, it's not as cold as everybody else makes it out to be; it's just that it's generally always warm back in the Seireitei, and only slightly chilly at night.

Or maybe they're over exaggerating it just so they can all have something to complain about together. Stuff like that helps people bond, doesn't it? Spirits can choose not to feel anything from this world, so that must be it.

You could also do that, but since nobody else is, you don't feel like it would be appropriate.

You're not particularly inconvenienced by the weather, so you can't really join the conversation the other trainees are having. Looking at it from the side, it seems that the guys, in their white and blue uniforms, and the girls, in their red and white ones, are mostly keeping to their groups. There are ten trainees here in total. The practical assignment had the whole class split up into small groups.

There are three Shinigami present in the building, their black uniforms setting them apart from everybody else. You don't recall their names. None of them are instructors from the academy; they've just been assigned in charge of your group for this exercise.

Two of them are discussing something between themselves, gradually getting louder about it, while one is wandering around the students, chatting with them. The girl's dark hair is tied up in a neat bun and she looks kind of nervous, though the people she speaks with seem to cheer up a bit.

You catch the Shinigami girl glancing your way. She seems to be finishing her conversation with the female students. She's already spoken with the rest of the boys, so she'll probably head your way after that.

...

>Wait for the girl to approach.
>Move to listen in on the debate the other two Shinigami are having.

You are Jareth, Disciple of Elshhu and savior of the Great City. Savior of part of it anyway, more due to good luck than anything else. Hopefully you can go a good long time without having to deal with any greater demons, you certainly aren't eager to risk your life banking on feelings of gratitude next time.

Still, that's yesterday, this is today. You're still alive, you're owed a binding favor by Grulax, you earned several times over what you were owed for the job to buy your silence, and you even got to put a wayward amateur infernalist onto a proper Elshhuan path. Makes you feel all warm inside.

It's a warm morning in the Great City, the bustle of guild traffic echoing up through the shutters even in this out of the way street. You stretch with a groan, amusing yourself watching what you have decided to dub Valia's panic dance. It involves the flustered sorceress attempting to move in a half dozen directions at once as her brain works itself into a frenzy of conflicting priorities, all without actually managing to achieve anything.

“You doing okay there?” you ask at last, as Valia makes a sudden lunge for a shoe lying on its side under a bureau, bumping her head against the wooden edge with a yelp.

“Y-yes, completely fine, um, I- I have to, I should...”

You chuckle to yourself, hopping up off the bed and walking over, wrapping an arm around Valia's shoulders as she rubs her forehead.

“You really in that much of a hurry to leave?”

“I- um, well, no, but- but my mother will be wondering where I am, um, I- I don't want her getting suspicious, and- I- well, since we did this once before already, I-”

Sometimes you forget that Valia's a couple of years older than you, still panicking about what her mother will say when she stays out all night. Though you suppose you aren't a stranger to overbearing parents yourself.

“It's already morning though, I doubt those few minutes you'll save running about will make much difference.”

“Well, maybe, but, but I really don't want to worry her...”

>It's fine, now come on back to bed
>Okay, we'll grab some breakfast then leave

“Should have brought a bloody overcoat, shouldn't I?” Elliot mutters as you both trek through the heavy snow, melting flakes leaving dark splotches on the houndstooth print of his suit. He's been talking like this, chatting aimlessly and pointlessly, since the fight. A coping method, perhaps, from someone who's unused to such violence. Or, although this is the option you doubt, the fading adrenaline of someone who IS used to it. As if – his hands are perfectly smooth and free from callouses. He's no fighter.

Your name is Eirin Petra Petrushka, and you ARE a fighter. A damn good one, if you're being honest. It comes naturally to you – once the fists start flying, your body just... knows what to do. Some holdover from your past life, perhaps, the same kind of thing that sets your heart racing whenever you're alone with...

“And this snow,” Elliot whines, “will strip the polish right off these shoes. This is real leather, I'll have you know, they weren't cheap.”

Other than a disdainful sniff, you don't grace this with an answer. Sometimes, you wonder about him. You've got your guesses, but there's really nothing you know for sure about him. Looking at him, you sometimes feel the word “Liar” surfacing in your mind, but...

Stomping onwards, you rub your eye as a sudden stinging pain flashes through it. Just a twinge of pain, nothing really, but it's enough to fill your eye with tears. You swipe them away with a callous flick of your fingers and press on, but it's not long before another lance of pain hits you. This one causes you to stumble as the world around you shifts, growing flat and somehow lifeless. You could be staring at a damn oil painting, for all you know. Then, as you're clutching a hand to your aching brow, everything drops away from you.

You feel like you've forgotten something very important.

“Bloody hell, Red,” the man behind you snaps, some vague mixture of concern and amusement in his voice, “What's gotten into you? Swaying about like that, you look as drunk as a lord.”

A snarl forms on your lips as you lurch round and seize him by the shoulders, staring hard at him. The words bubble up from some dark recess of your mind, each one overlapping and forming a wild chorus – Liar, cheat, thief and degenerate. Those are just the first ones that reach you, there's something else there, hidden beneath countless layers of thick deception. You can just about see it now, if only you could get a better look...

“Bloody hell!” he repeats, stammering with sudden fear, “Your eye, what's wrong with your bloody eye?”

Nothing is wrong, you hear yourself murmur, but... that's not quite right, is it? Once again, the thought strikes you – there's something terribly important, something you can't quite remember.

I know it's fairly new, but I'm hoping someone here has played it and can give their opinion on it.

It's really, really not good. It tries to sell itself on the gimmick of playing yourself and your friends during the apocalypse, but in practice there's very little in it to help with it. Character creation is (over) simplistic, but it still ultimately runs on a perfectly standard pool of points to ensure that everyone is equally capable (yes, there's a voting phase in which the players all agree on whether or not to raise or lower the attributes of their fellow ones BUT you get a point back/lose a point if they decide to lower/raise it so effectively you're still balanced). You cannot have the game balance cake and the real simulation cake. If you are a fat neckbeard whose greatest skill is rote memory of the rules of D&D 3.5th edition and your pal is a fit, coolheaded ex-Ranger who's won medals in Afghanistan, than in a real situation YOU WOULDN'T BE BALANCED. They even invalidate whether or not each player is "prepared" for the apocalypse in real life because the rules are the characters/players start with "what they have around, right now at this moment" (yes, the assumption is that the apocalypse literally starts the moment you sit down to play The End of the World RPG. There's even a funny little rule that says the GM has to be the first one to die, to save him the trouble of playing himself.), so what gear you'd get depends entirely on whether or not the player hosting the game is currently keeping shotguns around his pizza tables, not on whether Colonel McBadass has an entire arsenal at home (unless he's the type who always carries around his bug-out-bag).

So it completely fails to do that. The mechanics themselves are very uninspired, lots of descriptive, freeform advantages and disadvantages that add dice to your pool (so depending on whether or not you're playing with assholes it's either insanely gameable or just boring). It doesn't run fast enough to really flow, but far too simplistic to be a simulation.

The "Stress" mechanics are pants-on-head, managing to somehow be both a poor representation of the genre, unrealistic, and wonky (in the sense that poor rolling could lead to bizarre situations where characters rip through a horde of monsters with a toothpick while only spraining their ankle near the end, but then stumble on a pebble and break their necks - and not even the grimmest of apocalyptic stories are these stupid about applying character death. It's supposed to be either dramatic or tell something about the story, even if that something is that the stakes are high and everyone can die, not literally be pointless). It's also got this kind of holistic system treating mental and emotional damage the exact same way as physical, which really doesn't work.

The scenarios are bad. I'll get to that in a minute, but the important thing is that is REALLY BAD since you don't get anything else. The End of the World prides itself on replayability because you get a whopping 5 scenarios with each book, but what they don't sell you on the back cover is that THIS IS IT. There isn't even GM advice on how to create your own scenario, no nothing like that. Five scenarios, that's what each game can do. Pre-Apocalypse, Post-Apocalypse, yadda yadda.

And the scenarios are bad. Most of them range from banal to stupid, they fail to cover the breadth of the genre they're meant to (I guarantee you that there are more than 5 ways of doing zombies, even if you stick to the iconic, and infinitely more ways than that of doing something like an "alien invasion". When your entire game relies on 5 scenarios meant to cover the entire "Alien Invasion" genre, can you really afford to "waste" one on something as pointless as "giant radioactive ants"?).
