humans, common and uninteresting
vulcans, smart and logical
klingons, strong and honorable
romulans, space romans
green skinned space babe of the week

most people only take the concepts, and often mash them together or split them up, so they often end up different anyways (asari are vulcans and technicolor space babes combined, turians have elements of both romulans and klingons)

a lot of sci-fi races are used as stand-ins for existing countries, to examine the relationships and cultures without bringing real life bias into it, so they tend to bounce around a lot more as times change

Their secret weapon: small people with no imagination or ambition.

Depends on if you let your players make their own backstories. If yes then the answer is yes. If no then answer is sometimes.

Personally, I like to have control over my character's backstory and personality and I would feel that a GM who changes my backstory on a whim is overstepping the boundaries we have set for the game.

However I think Changeling is an older game so maybe the core book works? You could probably email White Wolf for clarification.

Honestly you can do pretty well with just the changeling book. It has enough in it to run the system. I played it without the core book and it worked out fine for me. As for which core book you need it's Chronicles of Darkness. The old one >>54583647 is refering to is changeling the dreaming, which was shit. Changeling the lost is absolutely dope though.

Not exactly. Chronicles of Darkness is the second edition line, and the core rulebook for Changeling: the Lost is World of Darkness.

That said there is a new edition of Changeling coming along for Chronicles of Darkness.

Anything by Dan Abbnett.

First 4 books in HH series are a good start.

The party wakes up at a campsite, all around this big ol' campfire in sleeping bags and no recollection of how they got there.
The party wakes up in separate prison cells for reasons that they've decided with the DM.
The party is watching whatever athletic activity is popular in the setting at a stadium when Plot™ happens.
Or you could just, y'know, have the players discuss their backstories with one another so that they be introduced cohesively.
