Looking for people who want to do a game/campaign of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, 2e.
>>
>>54580907
Anon who is going on holiday, I would love to be a part of something like that (if you'll have a no-hoper like me), but for obvious reasons I won't be able to join you for the next couple of weeks.

Maybe we could find some way of keeping in contact, that I might drop in when I get back?
>>
>>54580907
As usual, I'm available to GM but you'd have to be willing to play in the Monster Girl Encyclopedia setting.
>>
>>54581140
why why ruin it that way? I don't get it...

It's like you are openly advertising that you're Magical Realming the setting.

I don't think there's enough on the Hung though

I'm literally starting a 2nd e game! We're all meeting tomorrow to discuss plans, characters, and how to's. etc... only requirement is, we're looking for 'newer' players.

>>
>>54581180
>It's like you are openly advertising that you're Magical Realming the setting.
No shit. Though I'll admit that WHFRP would be a fitting system to use for it for several reasons:
>There are a lot of basic templates for a variety of different races for characters and it's easy enough to work out a template for use, either as a nerfed version (Beastmen characters that are generated are far stronger than they should be), or generating a new one (such as for orc, goblin or zombie characters). It also means that characters that have their race changed during the campaign can easily have their characteristics modified with a minimum of fuss.
>Corruption and mind-break mechanics are already present. Tome of corruption presents how to use corruption values of an area in a campaign and the rulebook itself has the insanity system to represent being taken by a monster.
>Since human-aligned humans have godly empowerment, that can also be done simply by re-skinning chaos warriors. Though in my case, rather than the chaos of mutations and rewards, I'm thinking that earning such bonuses will instead grant some free but fixed statline advances which I'm basing around the differences between chaos careers and regular ones.
>Magic can be categorized into two forms, corrupt monster magic and 'mundane' magic.
I'd be willing to GM for both teams of players who are monsters and incubi trying to corrupt the world or pure humans, elves and dwarves trying to prevent that.

Okay, Warhammer Fantasy has been a little better at allowing alliances and friends than 40k, but there are still some obvious restrictions - Humans would almost never work with Beastmen, Dwarves would never call a truce with Orcs.

Do you think that things could - or should - be loosened up a little, particularly with how Total Warhammer approaches diplomacy as something you can do with potentially any faction?
>>
>>54581716
No, that was me.

I feel obliged to warn you here that my talk of being a fun-police type of person was no idle boast. And I can get really steamed if I think people aren't taking it seriously.

But, hopefully I'd be able to get through this.

You responded to the other guy going on holiday. I'm the one who said I was there from Warhammer Fantasy General. i'll hit you up on Discord.

You can always fluff an Empire force as Chaos renegades to justify a very shaky alliance with Beastmen.
>>

>>
>>54581870
Same with Vampire Counts I suppose, but that always kind of sucks. for people who want their loyal Imperials cake and to eat it too. The opposite would suck for people who hate the idea of non-Chaos Beastmen or something as well, so it sucks there can't be a middle ground of any sort. At least in the End Times a shaky human and undead alliance was justified, even if it took a world-ending threat.

>when you remember that we could have had Bohemond Beastslayer or Repanse de Lyonesse
>>
>>54582671
There is nothing wrong with Alberic.
>>
>>54582687
He is a pretty alright burger compared to a double-bacon-thickerthanthick-burger, or a patty melt with cheese curds. Or whatever else you find delicious.

The point is that he's really a kind of generic lord, and the only reason I think he was included was for future updates where being navally active would be a much bigger deal. And even then, I could count the number of shits people would give on one hand if someone had stuck Bohemond or Repanse in his place.
>>
>>54582791
They will have to make Wood Elves and Beastmen fleet from scratch.
>>
>>54582873
I imagine a big sideways tree, and a really rickety raft-boat. More raft than boat, but not quite a raft.
>>
>>54582024
>Same with Vampire Counts I suppose
If they're Von Carstein you can make them Sylvanian levies. Lahmians would have noble human allies to call on too.
>>
>>54582671
Repanse isn't from that era.
>>
>>54582985
Neither is Vlad or Azhag, what's your point? If she'd be a fun character to play, they'd bullshit her in with 'the Lady called her back from the realm of the dead to fight in Bretonnia's time of need' or something.
>>
>>54583009
Vlad is a vampire and can be rezzed. Azhag's active period has always been vague.
>>
>>54583029
So can Konrad in theory, but he's not around, and Vlad wasn't brought back for hundreds of years in the lore for whatever reason. Vlad was brought back because he was popular.

And Azhag's history is vague...except that it was recent, possibly within living memory or a little farther back, and he was confirmed dead as a doornail. He was brought in because he was probably one of the few Orc characters people can name besides Grimgor and they needed a second Greenskins character, and threw in Wurrzag later.

Repanse de Lyonesse could be as easily handwaved in as you're handwaving the existence of Vlad and Azhag in the game, and she's probably one of the few named Bretonnian characters people actually know, if nothing else because she has tits. And if you still want to argue that because of her set timeline she doesn't belong in there, fine, but then there's still Bohemond - and they're both still better than Alberic 'Everyman' de Bordelaux. You could even justify Bohemond in Bordelaux since Bastonne and Bordelaux have good relations, and Bastonne is often entrusted to a steward anyway.

It had more to do with him being very distinct from Grimgor. Magic + wyvern mount. Most of the other orc warlords, like Gorbad, Rotgut and others, all fall into the same mold of bashy fighter.

>>
>>54583615
I can totally imagine a Nurgle army capturing a Chaos Spawn of Tzeentch and making sure he can't mutate and using him as some sort of weapon or sick joke of a mascot, in a 'stagnancy trumps change' sort of way. It'd be kind of like being a Khornate with a daemonette stuck to your banner as a prisoner/trophy.
>>
Talking 6th ed here. I'm trying to come up with a rune combo for my Lord. I usually list tailor, but i figure i have to come up with a generic rune combo for quick plays or turneys.

My main plight are weapon runes, because i'm torn between the master rune of speed or the master rune of destruction
Striking first as a dwarf is basically death for anything he touches, unless it's a fucking elf, while the rune of destruction will basically makes an enemy hero useless at the first hit (not wound, hit)

What are your suggestions on the matter? Bear in mind, i'll probably park this lord in a unit of hammerers with a banner of slowness so maybe i have some hipe to charge first (and attack first)

All we really know about the Hung is that they ride steppe ponies, are execellent bowmen, and are supreme oathbreakers.

Also they like elfs, since apparently as early as the Storm of Chaos Morathi was able to bribe herself an army's worth of meatshields to take to Lustria off of proffered elf sex.

Absolutely not. Humans and Beastmen are completely inimical to one another, for one. Dwarfs would never work with Greenskins, it would be an oathbreaking action and invite Grimnir's wrath. The only 'evil' factions who can and do occasionally work with their enemies are the vampires, tomb kings, and dark elves...and the kangz aren't even evil.

Repanse d'Lyonesse was a peasant woman from Lyonesse. During an invasion of Bretonnia, the main body of the chivalry was broken and routing, so the Lady appeared personally to Repanse and charged her with removing seanigger. Repanse grabbed a horse off a dead knight, snatched up a banner, and charged into battle while everyone else was routing. The sight so shamed the knighthood that they rallied and countercharged, taking the Norscans by aurprise. The Chaos fag in charge of the invasion tried to kill Repanse, but she was so platinum mad she just beheaded him in a single stroke. That broke the invaders and they fled to the sea.

For her actions, Repanse was ennobled and made the Duchess of Lyonesse. This was the first and only time such a thing happened.

I can think of 2 possibilities

Against Nagash and against Chaos. But that's it.
>>
>>54570622
>pray to both Sigmar and Ulric and Myrmydia as you can't have enough of divine protection

I suppose it depends on person to person. I suspect most Old World peasants would only pray to one, as they'd have deep held beliefs and self identify partially by who they worship.

Day to day they'd definitely offer lip service to each, but before a big fight?

>>54570821
WAR was kinda abysmal. Everyone playing a hero who could eventually tank fucking giants just shitted me. Felt too much like WoW. I ended up just speedhacking so I could check out the maps.

And they were fucking underwhelming.

>>54571931
Sounds like a clever scam. I like it.

>>54572199
Just doesn't click with Chaos Gods MO. Low-to-no interaction with his worshippers, no lesser daemons of his ilk. All we really know is that he taught dwarfs magic and may have demanded sacrifices. Since the Sorcerer Priests are the only ones who know the true history of their race, it's not entirely impossible that there never even was a Hastur and that the whole thing was one chaos dwarfs scheme to keep his people united in tough times.

>no lesser demons for Hashut

There are the K'daii. They are lesser demons bound to hashut, even if they don't resemble him
>>
>>54585133
Is that headcanon or legit? The most I can find is a reference to them setting Runesmithing aside, but given that even humans and skaven use runes in their magic item creation, it seems more likely that Chaos Dwarfs just gave up on runes not useful in daemonsmithing and hellweapon manufactory.
>>
>>54585201
It's also possible most or all of their runesmiths died during the cataclysm that turned them to Chaos to begun with. No teachers, no students.
>>
>>54585197
Aren't thise literally magical golems of fire and metal made by the sorcerers?

>With the K'daai they have sought to do something more, to create a race of beings, half-daemon stuff and half-raging fire drawn from the magma of the deep earth and birthed in the boiling blood of Hashut's burning sacrifices, given form and contained within an armoured framework of articulated iron and rune-stamped bronze.

Not really lesser daemons, more hyrbids made by Chaos Dwarfs.

>>54585201

Ooh, also shows they still use rune magic.
>>
>>54585249
Well they still have demon stuff in them. If the sorcerers used the blood from sacrifices to hashut to animate them, they could count as lesser demons of hashut even if artificially made.

I like to think that when hashut came to the chaos dwarfs he was a mere diagraced demon, but the dawi-zharr made a god out of him
>>
>>54585201
Well they can't use it in any edition of the tabletop, and really they are no reason to not make use of this. I assume that's because their Sorcerer are something unatural for dwarf, being able to use magic like other race. They probably loosed their runesmith too. I don't see any other explication for stopping the use of rune.
>>
>>54581742
No, there are just certain faction in Total Warhammer that would not ally up.

Though amongst the groups that can become allies I've no problem with lasting alliances being possible, if the player can change the warhammer world for the better with their ability the possibility should be there.

Also lizardmen should be able to ally with non-chaotic factions as inscruitable as they may be, as long as you don't touch their shit.
Returning 'Lustrian Relics' taken from other factions to them should be a way to improve their favor and make alliances possible.
>>
>>54585288
Well if i, as a member of a magic-resistant race suddenly found out how to use proper magic instead of using runes and discovered that i could make equally powerful artifacts by binding demons into stuff at a fraction of time and effort, i'd set aside runesmithing too

>Not binding the two together
Dawi use runesmithing instead of "proper" magic because they don't like conventional magic anyway, they find rune more stable, more trustworthy and much more suited to their use.

But perhaps it is best the Chaos Dwarf don't have it, would give their army a "Everything like dwarf but much better" edge.
>>
>>54585370
Actually, was reading Realms of Sorcery recently, and that's one of the things implied in it. That Chaos started to 'leak through' in tiny amounts, before the Gates ever collapsed.

>Fucking chaos lizardmen when?
Fucking never! Don't forget your place warmblood!
>>
>>54585370
It's not bullshit. In order to create the world and run their technologies and magic, the Old Ones tapped into the Realm of Chaos.

The Chaos Gods who are the absolute masters of the Realm of Chaos viewed this as theft and trespass. An assault on their person and sovereignty. The Chaos Gods lashed out and destroyed/scattered the Old Ones and then proceed to attempt to dissolve the world to take back what was theirs. The Elves prevented this by creating the vortrex.

What do we learn from all of this? The Chaos Gods did nothing wrong.

I feel it's a combination of factors. Loss of experienced runesmiths, better alternative options, difficulty overcoming their new access to easy magic instead of the slow process of rune mastery. Result: any runes that don't help bind daemons - like with the k'daii - are probably lost.

Malekith banished himself to the warp.
He needed some alone time, away from his clingy mother.
>>
>>54585843
He's recharging his batteries.

But to your point, I wish tomb kings weren't so affiliated with a skulls and bones motif in everything. They're defined by clinging to their mortal pride and wanting their empires back - why not have this reflected in their behavior and still-beautiful art? Incredibly elaborate clothing hung on withered, dried frames. Stunning crowns on skinless brows. Shockingly lifelike masks concealing paper-skinned skulls. Legions of attendants to regularly rewrap them in brilliantly dyed and embroidered burial wrappings. Laying out feasts that they pretend to wat, catching the mastic ate mush in golden jars where their stomachs used to be, occasionally feeding a morsel to a living subject whose sole job is to describe the flavor in a way that pleases his or her master. Stables of artists, musicians, dancers, gladiators, concubines, all taken from among the living descendants of their peasantry, the desert nomads, or the Arabyans.

Not really their sort of thing, is it? Digging into the earth or mountains to haul out the precious metals.

And even then you wonder how they know how to work/refine it all, since the last contact they had with the dwarfs (aside from killing them who came to try and cut the forest down and hanging their innards from tree-branches) was during the war of the beard.
>>
>>54585990
>weren't so affiliated with a skulls and bones motif in everything
everyone and everything worth noting in WHFB has skulls motif. things and people who don't - well, they don't really fit in WHFB, they were just slapped on top

WHFB could work without them.
Empire, Chaos, and Greenskins are chief players.
The setting is basically "Empire vs Chaos & Greenskins, plus supporting cast". Obviously not to such a ridiculous degree as 40k, but its still chief conflict and chief theme.
>>
>>54586018
Correct, but it's likely the Arabyans and nomads have some Nehekharan blood, and we know Nehekhara extended as far as the Border Princes. Acquiring resources for living servants might be something that causes them to raid caravans or communities, or to engage in piracy. Certainly there are oases close enough to the tomb cities that they face raiding regularly by thieves.
>>
>>54586135
Greenskins have less impact on world than High Elves who constantly save it from chaos.
>>
>>54586052
The legions of skeletons and the kings themselves when unmasked provide sufficiently for the skull quotient. The Mortuary Cult exceeds minimums.

not. the. point!

Look at Warcraft. It has a whole bunch of races. Elves of both stripes are most popular. Etcetera. But Warcraft is and has always been Orcs vs Humans above all else. Everyone else is supporting cast, no matter how much limelight they get.

Same here. WHFB is Empire vs Chaos & Greenskins, plus others. It doesn't offend your favourite faction. It has nothing to do with favourite faction. Its just how the setting is. When you descrtibe the setting, you start with those three, they are they heart and the definition of the setting.

There are Tomb Kings that sometimes forget they're dead, or try their hardest to do what the living do even if they no longer need banquets and bitches. There is a tribe of humans living in Numas, and occasionally Tomb Kings take on living servants, like in 'Totenkranz.'

Wasn't there a lore bit where sometimes a Tomb King would order a delicious meal, but he wouldn't remember what to do with it? He'd stare at it until it rotted away, or remember the life he used to have and grow enraged.

I think it's a little bit of irony. In life, they had a huge focus on death to the point their cemeteries were larger than the towns of the living. They put skulls and bones everywhere because of that obsession. A lot of soldiers considered it an honor to die for their lord and be buried with him instead of a promotion or living pleasures.

But now they're undead, and they realize the irony of their past, cheated of the perfect eternal life they wished for and cursed to a long undeath rather than having lived a short but full life.

Cathay doesn't, you're thinking of Ind. Just what the cat beastmen are is an open question, too, since they don't seem to have horns.

Norscans only work with beastmen when they've dedicated themselves fully to Chaos.

Some (southern)Norse are decent people
Also Empire is not Imperium of Retardness. Empire tries to be reasonable.
If some beastmen would like to kill chaos orcs or other beastmen, Empire would be all for it, with much of population angry but officials would do nothing to prevent the fight.

High Elves get a bit crazy about those Waystones. They'll save the entirety of Bretonnia to save one, or wipe out an Empire village and a small army likewise.
>>
So what differentiates the Kurgans from the Hung both in terms of cultural inspiration and what they are like militarily? Think that the Chaos Marauders that the Dark Elves deal with ought to be based off Native American tribes instead of also being Hung?
>>
>>54590487
What do you use to scan physical documents like this? I can't imagine the time it takes to scan each page one by one...?! Maybe I'm thinking of the printer style scanners where you have to lay it flat like a copier...do you use something faster?
>>
>>54590637
It's never really made clear, since they both seem to be horse people. As far as I understand it, the Kurgan are based on Turkish tribes (some people also include Scythians or Huns), and the Hung are based on Mongols/Manchu tribes - but you have a point in that the ones that bother the Dark Elves might be more Native American based, and there's also the fact that Hobgoblins more directly have Khans and such, and it doesn't seem like GW to use the same themes twice.

We had a big argument about this a while back but basically the Kurgan are inspired by more western steppe nomads such as turkic people, indo-iranians or eastern slavs as evidenced by some of the tribe names (Kurgan is a turkic/east slavic word for a barrow, the Dolgans are a real turkic tribe, the Avags and the Khazags are Avars and Khazars respectively)
The Hung are more Mongolian/East Asian. They are shorter, have epicanthic folds and similar.
I don't think there's any evidence of Native American-type tribes. I only went looking for that the other day.

Asked in another thread but was wanting to get more opinions, but for making a Slaaneshi warband, what would be a good substitute for Chaos Warriors? I'm actually a bit disappointed.
I thought we'd get a bunch of special armies like in Dwarfs. I play both, I was interested in what special things HE got.

Any time.

Actually, anything else of particularly poor quality we need replaced?
>>
>>54593580
Dark Elves 8e, Lizardmen 8e, Core Rulebook 8e.
>>
>>54593677
Isn't our Daemons also missing a couple pages?
>>
>>54585079
pg 164 of tamurkhan mentions their corrupted runecrafting
>>
>>54593677
Hardcover or softcover core? Missing pages, or just poor quality?

I have both. Hardcover would be a pretty big scanning undertaking though, HE 6e took me 3.5 hours. Just scanning whats missing would be much easier.

I probably won't scan an 8e book I don't already own, they're not cheap.
>>54593697
I think I have 8e Daemons out in storage. If you can dig up I can scan any pages you say is missing.
>>
>>54593835
All of them are poor photos of pages.
>>
>>54593871
All right, I'll add it to the to do list and post it all once its finished. Probably won't be for awhile.

I also have the 7e core book I think.

>there are minor Chaos gods beyond the main four

How many can you name?

Lizardmen are fine but Empire pdf is piss poor.

post the one where a high elven prince attacking Nuln got his dragon pulped by a great cannon and fell, screaming, to his death

Aside from Hashut? Malal, Necoho, Zuvassin... Malal's canonocity is questionable, but Necoho and Zuvassin were namedropped in the Tome of Salvation. You could probably argue for the Chaos Gods of Law too, so that's three more - Solkan, Arianka, and Alluminas. They're old as dirt, but had a few namedrops. Pretty sure the Horned Rat is a Chaos God.

Though if you're skeptical about all of those, I will admit, that makes Hashut unique in being the only minor Chaos god that's been brought up directly as more than a namedrop in years.

This will never not be funny. Surprised the dwarfs didn't get in on it.
>>
>>54594733
>hey dawi come over
>I can't, I'm besieged by Orcs
>I'm beating the shit out of elves

But seriously, can't expect the dwarves to march all the way to Stirland just to join in some random fight. And I like that bit of lore for not only having the Empire and High Elves at odds for some unexplained reason, but it also shows that Elves can get knocked down a peg without it being by some hated foe that's thousands of years old.
>>
>>54594267
Maybe I'll buy Empire.
I bought a bunch of the TGG2 fantasy nuns and have some Greatswords and Ludwig. Maybe I'll make an Empire army.
>>
>>54594798
the elves would panic if their heads weren't up their asses.
>think humans are oogabooga norscan savages.
>try to invade the empire
>get stomped by big guns and staunch dawi allies waiting to strike grudges.
>>

>But seriously, can't expect the dwarves to march all the way to Stirland just to join in some random fight.

I can. Maybe not Ironbreakers, but certainly some slayers or feisty beardlings.
>>
>>54587743
We have Brunner, it's under "stand alone novels and series". You know it struck me that it's pretty crazy we have most WHFB novels now.
>>
>>54594615 Nuln
>>54594798 Stirland
It doesn't say which part of the Empire was attacked, but it was most likely on the coast.
>>
>>54596466
Stirland Halberdiers and a battery of Nuln Cannons were involved. Could've been anywhere, but I'd guess it was in Reikland since it's between the two provinces, at least if the elves were coming from the coast or down the river.

Other than obtaining trappings, do players need to accomplish anything else before selecting a Career Exit?

1.) Take all advances available to the career.
2.) Take all skills available to the career that he does not have, or that he does not fulfill (e.g. he need not take a skill if the career specifies Common Knowledge (Any one) and he already has one).
3.) Take all Talents available to the career, save those marked with 'or,' obviously.
4.) Pay 100 XP to change careers.

Note that a character can exit into a basic career at any time for 200 XP, and that any basic career can enter into any basic career for the same price. Further note that you keep all your career exits throughout any career you've been in.
>>
>>54596735
Finally, some careers have special conditions like "possess at least one mutation" or "possess at least x insanity points" or "slay a giant (or equivalent)." Obviously, you must check these boxes.

The guy who said he had a WFRP game starting tonight unlisted his thing on Roll20. I'm thinking of just saying Fuck It and starting my own and seeing if one of the recruits wants to GM.

For the anons here -- I'll say that I generally prefer campaigns out of the book (with some of the necessary modifications that happen in an RPG). Prior, I've run The Enemy Within, a first edition campaign, which I modified for second edition, and it was fantastic. If anyone wanted to do that, all the better.

I'm also looking for 2e, something that works with East Coast US time, and weekends, preferably, though I can probably do weekday evenings.

I usually try to take roleplaying seriously and know a lot about the world (as I'm sure all of you do).
