You stare at your lap. Five or six metal shards. The handle is dented and cracked. You sigh. It will cost just as much trying to fix this thing as buying a new one. That's a downer. A minor one, but still.

“Broke your sword?” You look up from the plush bench you're sitting on in the hallway to see Ed standing over you. Seems he took a break from going through Chant Havelove's room. Chant was actually living in the sixth room of the fourth floor, two doors down from Quissonce. He was your neighbor and you never even noticed him.

“Yeah, dropped it in the fall.” you answer. Ed sits down next to you and gestures for you to let him see your saber pieces. You hand it over and watch him put it together like he was finishing a puzzle. When the chunks of metal are roughly aligned, he places his hands over them and begins to utter the incantations of magic.

As you watch in awe, the metallic pieces grow into each other and fuse. The handle fixes itself, popping out the dents as the magic washes over the sword. Maybe two or so minutes later Ed removes his hands and ends his chanting. He gives it back to you, looking good as new. You swing it once to ensure to yourself it still has the same weight and balance to it. You confirm the weapon's as good as the day you bought it.

“Thanks Ed. You're a life saver.” You sheathe it.

Ed waves off the compliment. “It's a pretty basic spell. Takes barely any effort.”

“No, you've really saved my life. Without you I'd be a smear on the ground outside the tower.”

He blushes slightly at your words, before rubbing the back of his head. “Uh, yeah, I guess so. Glad I could help. That situation was a bit crazy. I'm surprised you just rush into danger like that, Alan. I could never see myself tackling a monster.”

“Well, you can start to now seeing as how you did just that today, Ed.”

“Yeah, but I mean without someone telling me to. I wouldn't say I'm a coward, but I'm definitely not prone to heroics.”

You watch as Dolah exits Chant's room, a young orc boy on her heels close behind. She speaks. “I'm unsure of whether I'd call most of what occurred today heroics. Things, thankfully, turned out for the best. But if we examine the events closely, luck appears to be the guiding force for our success.”

She really needs to stop eavesdropping on conversations. Dolah holds out the Barbazu's glaive. You give Dolah a quizzical look. “Isn't it evil?”

“No, there is nothing wrong with the weapon itself. It may have been forged in Hell itself and crafted with a sinister design, but unlike the revolver,” Dolah turns her head to shout back into the room. “Which I advised Eve to not keep,”

“Fuck you, I want a gun!” Eve shouts back.

“there is no evil nor magical aura emanating from the weapon. And it is masterfully crafted. No one else wished to take it, so I was wondering if you would like it.”

Feminine but male Gods fit pretty well in a lot of mythology. It represents a sort of otherwise unspoken part kf the population.

“Well, I usually volunteered for seven,” you mutter. She looks at you with hints of confusion, awe, and some amount of “I don’t believe you”. You shrug. “Look, sorties were a good way to build up your killcount, and it was better than sitting in class listening to some old clone drone on about the ‘old days’.”

“I guess,” she mumbles.

You drop the rag, then check the time on your holopad. “We’re going to reach our destination soon, so grab a shower, then see what you can do in the machine shop.” She nods, still leaning over the cockpit side. “… you know, Misri. I don’t see you working on our stuff as often. At least, in terms of mods. Is there something wrong?”

“O- oh, nothing,” she says. “Just, I’m short on ideas is all.”

“You sure?” you ask as you step off the wing and onto the floor of the cargo bay. “You can always ask me if you want something. I enjoy having a mechanical mind on my crew.” Plus, while you were expected to maintain your TIEs back in Flight School, nobody ever actually goes into their TIE to fix it. That was for techies.

“I’m fine, really,” she says. “Honestly, I’m mostly focusing on trying to learn the Force.” You roll your eyes. “See! You rolled your eyes there, I’m not blind!”

“Look, you can learn it, but don’t waste your time on it,” you say. She sighs loudly, like a passive-aggressive technician. “Another thing though-“ The ship rumbles. … are you already out of hyperspace? “As you were.”

You hurry to the cockpit.

“Sir.” Dodger and Wilco look back to greet you as head towards a glowing nebula, sparkling with gas particles. But in your window view now was a large space station, a Cardan V-class space station, with extra expansion for cargo and bigger ships docking into it like those Star Destroyers and bulk freighters and what not. But behind that as well was a garrison fleet of other cruisers, Interdictors as well. “Hyperspace travel is restricted. We’re being hailed by that space station.”

On the holo projector coming up now was a Stormtrooper with a black pauldron. “This is Captain Kozma of the Stormtrooper Corps. State your business.”

“My name is Rhys Cykgil. I’m on official business from Admiral Reike,” you say. “We need passage through the Veil nebula to the planet of Alpheridies.”

“Unfortunately travel through the nebula is restricted,” she says. What? “We will allow you to dock at the Veil Waystation, but nobody enters or leaves the Veil without expression authorization. We are sure you understand. Bay 6 will be open for you to land, but we would suggest instead you turn around and leave if you are not intending to refuel or replenish supplies, we have many ships that wish to use the station.” Captain Kozma disappears from the holo projector, the transmission cut.

You sigh. Great.

No. Glaive has its cutting point right at its tip, while a greatsword has edge for most of its length. Thus, only say a fifth of glaive's length needs to touch enemy to do its damage, while almost four fifths of the greatsword needs to become in contact with the enemy for it to deal damage. It's obvious how the greatsword cannot have reach while the glaive does.

Glaives were actually between 7-8 feet long, and greatswords were only rarely above 5, with most being at 4 and a half.

Giving the greatsword reach at a -2 penalty is a bit much, especially since they can also attack without reach. At best, you should offer them something like the pathfinder lunge feat.

A zweihander can be used like a spear, and it's not like the tip is less sharp anyway.

However mechanically the greatsword doesn't really need to be stronger than it already is.

Most of the players I play with would rather stick with the core races, so I tend to just make up NPC races to keep them on their toes. I stole the pangolin idea, for instance, and have been working on a generic lion-people race. I had a crazy idea for a sentient magic library to start making its own golems that are powered by magical books.

Humans only. Other "races" are just lesser spirits trapped by the power of human legend.
