Can a flavour analysis explain this? Why the large scale migration of humans? Why the ready acceptance of dark-skinned foreigners by suspicious and embattled humans?

Flavor Text of Moonveil Dragon (DKA):
>Their hearts beat, their lungs draw breath, and they have one true form. I count them as allies of the living. - Thalia, Knight-Cathar

If the citizens of Innistrad accept a giant flying lizard as an ally, why wouldn't they accept another human, regardless of what they look like?
Why do we give a shit?

They've hinted at going in a Lovecraftian direction.

The mongrelification of Innistrad could be a sign of its decline in the interim?

You are Brianna la Croix, journeyman necromancer, and these stairs are a lot harder to climb drunk. It's a good thing you've got Amy and Jewel on hand, 'cause this was a /poor idea/.

Somewhere along the way, while Nathan was catching his breath, Amy put Sir Fetch on her head and your familiar keeps fixing Jewel with the most over-the-top looks at random. The assassin stifles her giggles whenever she looks up to see the bird's exaggerated expression of shock.

"Hey Nate," you slur, gesturing. "Just one more flight of stairs to the top."

"So," Fetch intones, with deep gravity. "It has come to /this/."

Jewel loses it laughing.

Though everyone's having a good time, you're fairly certain that going to see Cherry drunk ranks somewhere in the region of using someone's dead sibling as a marionette in front of them, so the four (living) members of your band decide to find a clearing in the Lichyard and camp out. Fetch and Kat sit on watch while you enjoy your pipe and Amy sets about making food.

This hangover's gonna suck.

Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: http://jyenicolson.net/exalted/. It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

I thought the plan was that it would be Sorcery, but using a different environment's Essence. No need for new rules, but feel free to add a new Shaping Ritual or two.

official intent is to make it something similar but different to sorcery. But yeah, it's a good approximation until necromancy comes out in 2158.

Could an empire survive in such a position? Tend to break it up into smaller kingdoms.
14 posts and 5 images submitted.

YEs.

Could survive depending on arrangement of the EMpire.

If Golden HORde anD and the Ilkhanate can count as Empires then so can this.

People will do exactly what they are told provided you don't ell then to do something they don't what to do.

Provided they see the Emperor as at least sort of on thier side. Or at least not against them when the getting is good.

YOu have a Khanate and a Republic among t kingdoms. For this implies that each unit political/social beneath and within the Empires aegis is free to do as it wants with in its own bounds.

Tjhis implies a nebulous empire. More of a protection racket and a common call to arms as needed with a bit of taxation. Nothing intensive or culturally domineering about that. Nothing wrong with that.

Mongolian Empire was like that and they were unmatched in terms of Earth's surface covered until Britain went critical.

This is not accounting for any possibility of incompatible and fanatical religious nutteris in authority.
>>
>>45239519
Empires don´t survive long. There´s very few exceptions, like the Byzantine Empire. Most die within 2/3 centuries, if not earlier.

It would depend on:
-how and why did the empire come to be
-how different are the people within
-how are the people within, in general
-how are the neighbors
-how decent is live in the area

People revolt when they´re hungry or bored. No matter how pissed off they are, as long as they´ve got bread and circus they´ll keep going. The French Revolution didn´t explode until a series of bad harvests caused a big famine.

If the people are well fed, then it´s the nobles (if they exist) what might cause a division on their quest for personal power and glory.

An empire of content enough people and nobles that, for one reason or the other, can´t or don´t want to make a rebellion will survive. Russia´s so big because the nobles were all so far away that they didn´t even know each other, so there was no point in making a rebellion because nobody would support you.

Long story short, it depends how the society and the world itself is.
>>
>>45239519
History is full of anomalies so we can't make hard rules about what can and can't survive, but...

>Landlocked
>Only natural borders are with the Ryaniem league and the Badlands
>Open plains and nothing else

A few rivers might help their survivability, as they're generally easier to defend than just open plains. As it is now, they're in a horribly vulnerable position against enemies who almost all have a much better position. Compare for example the Ryanien league. They have a nice, cozy mountain range defending them against the Atharien Empire, another one against the Kingdom of Vergan and naval access.

What systems take a more realistic approach to weaponry and armour and differentiate between piercing, slashing, and blunt damage (and resistance)?
29 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>45239211
All of them, if you decide they do
>>
>>45239211
Isn't piercing just really focused blunt damage?
>>
GURPS.

There's cutting, piercing, crushing and impaling. They all have advantages and disadvantages. Generally crushing is good against soft armours but its killing power is limited, impaling has a big damage multiplier when used on the torso, cutting deals bonus damage to limbs and is good for hacking them off, piercing has a high base damage making it good for other armours.

Also certain armours dont work well against certain types. Arrows fuck up modern bullet vests pretty good.

EDH will be used for example, but the situation can be generalized.

>3 player EDH
>Player A resolves a wincon that comes into effect his next turn
>Players B and C both have sorcery speed removal to it
>They also know this about the other player's hands
>If neither of them remove it, they both lose
>But both of them want to play their own wincons instead
>Player B resolves his wincon instead of removing A's
>He passes to C
>C is forced to remove A's wincon
>C gets salty about this

I'm about to advertise for a game I want to run for Roll20. What should my tolerance level for flakes (people who don't show up) be? Should I kick people on the first game they miss without notification? Or should I give them two or three more chances?

Everyone gets one. Two or three is too much to give some rando on the Internet.
>>

Say you get ten players interested in joining. Of those ten, five will flake, two have never played a tabletop game in their life, two will flake after the first session, and one will insist on having a character who learned the exquisite art of the samurai sword.

What system?

You say the words ‘operation site’, but everyone knows that it just means that you want to get a picnic spot set up on the beach. It definitely sounded cooler in your head than it did when spoken aloud. At least, that’s what you infer from Victoria stifling a giggle and Brady just flat-out laughing. Fitz is kind enough to just give you her usual crooked smile as your ears burn red out of embarrassment.

Perhaps you should lay off the official jargon until Rookie Team’s on a more dangerous mission. Hopefully when you say it then, you won’t come off looking like you’re too big for your britches... or swimming suit in this case. But, you digress. You have other things to think about.

The crisp smell of the salty air fills your lungs as your group plods along the sidewalk towards the beach proper. It is fresh and bracing, sharp and gritty, a different kind of natural air than the crisp scent of mountain woodland you had gotten used to at Cocytus. The forests are calm, and solemn in their silent vigil underneath the mountains. Here, the crash and rumble of the tide are the masters of the airwaves.

Yet for all their differences, they still convey the same euphoric feelings of freedom and invigorating vitality, found only in the natural world and left untainted and unsullied by pollution.

But you shift the main focus of your mind away from poetic prose and concentrate on the sight of the Boardwalk. Right now, there are definitely more people than there were last night, and there’s an excitement in the air. Why wouldn’t there be? Everyone’s happy, the tourists, locals and shop owners, to be back on the beach now that the waters are ‘safe’ to swim in once more.

You can’t feel the same though. Even though you told Victoria to discount fiction tropes as having no merit in real situations, you can’t help the nervous feeling that’s growing in your stomach. You know what they say about calms before storms? Yeah. That’s the moment you’re feeling right now.

At any rate, the four of you manage to find a spot just when the lifeguards declare the beach open. It’s somewhat of a scramble as families and parties rush to find premium spots. None of you could really give a damn if you were close to the water. A nice venue a good twenty feet from the tide line is perfect enough for what you’re all here for anyway.

Ten minutes later, and now your venue is ready to go. Brady’s already lounging in his chair, fiddling with his Mobile COMP. Victoria and Fitz don’t seem to be too eager to go into the water (not that you would blame them) and are keeping a sharp eye on the beach-goers, especially the packs of kids enjoying themselves in the water.

You should…
