Reading the DMG Errata and it restates that like effects on a creature don't stack but just take the higher value -

Would a Paladin with [Divine Favor] cast use [Divine Smite] and roll the 1d4 Radiant Damage for DF plus the #d8 Radiant Damage for DS or just the #d8? Or does this rule just mean that you can't stack similar DoT on something?

I think it pertains to multiples of the same effect. For example, if two casters cast Haste on the same target, it would only take effect one. Though adding a die of radiant damage is similar, they come from separate sources, and thus both apply.

So I feel like my pc that is in the group right now doesn't have a reason to be in the group anymore and I had an idea for a new character but he wouldn't fit into the campaign at this point too. What should I do about this? Just reroll a new character to play for a while until other people want to do a new campaign?

The further pressure she would have felt towards Clan Ryo after dealing with the much disliked Hojo Heiress was merely incidental. They paid a hefty price for the privilege as well, one that would benefit you greatly in your efforts to achieve your true goal.

This is where things started to go awry, you're certain. Ryukusa somehow managed to catch and dominate an oni-child. To your best knowledge, she had never shown any sign of being a devil-tamer, yet somehow she managed it. Then she went on to lose an arm when that idiot Hojo or his pet demon-child set Susano-Oh's insane brat on her. You had plans for that meeting, but the loss of an arm was troublesome. Even that could have been dealt with. Then some political maneuvering brought foreigners to the safehouse. Foreign soldiers as well as servants of those idiots at the diet!

When they left there, you managed to get things back on track, using her cousin Hauko's minions to push her out of the more isolated safehouse. Except Susano-Oh's brat brought in outside help, and then kidnapped your best hold over Ryukusa, her older 'sister'. As if that wasn't enough, the damn dragonette then proceeded to get that stupid little Fire dragonette to help her retrieve the sorceress Er Yin from the warded barrier. That turned out to be a minor blessing in disguise – Ryukusa somehow managed to regrow an arm. What wasn't good was that she managed to defeat not one but TWO demigoddesses in a fight shortly thereafter.

Things went downhill rapidly from there.

She vanished, this time seemingly off the face of the planet. Not even the Oracle could determine where she was, and if that wasn't enough, she rescued her sister and made an alliance or some kind of bargain with the damn foreign spirit-child that served as the head priestess of the Temple of Forgotten Stones and Flowers, Hinata. Your spies confirmed that she also dealt with the servants of Kuraokami....but she ~didn't~ return the oni-child.

Then you sent her cousin to confront her directly when Hojo sent in more troops to try and capture her, only discovering her new hideout by accident. Not only were they there, but the Kaja were getting involved as well, slaughtering cat youkai in an effort to prevent one of the Oracle's predictions from coming true, in the guise of Christian priests. That worked out badly for them though. Not only did Ryukusa defeat Hauko, she managed to turn him against you too, to say nothing of outright destroying the Kaja influence on the mainland. Oh, but only if it had stopped there!

Ryukusa somehow made contact with the servants of Horobi, who have undoubtedly told her about her true nature....and if THAT wasn't enough, the damn Ainu priestess Kiku and the sorceress she kept from you were now willing to risk life and limb for her! It was bad enough that she had her sister, but now Hojo lacked their hold over Kiki, and the Clan Kaja had no influence either. So you pulled back and watched, waited patiently. Sure enough, it didn't take long for Ryukusa to seek out trouble.

Trouble, in this case, meaning making alliances with other spirit children – disgusting yako-children and pathetic human Yakuza, of all things – as well as another kamuy, and having a party. Which you had the decency to put an end to by allowing some of your friends in the police know about. Except then that idiot Hojo or his damn catamite got the foreigners involved again, this time sending hideous half-breed abominations to do their dirty work. You sent out a strike team immediately, and while they were attempting to bring your wayward tools back to you, they not only failed, they verified that the berserker that you'd been assured would never turn against her family not only turned against her family but turned against you as well!

I am now awake again so I'll re-ask:

I'm joining a game with a bunch of random runners (if we want to know each other that's up to us, but it seems like we're just hired) and I'm not all that familiar with the system (I've almost played a few times and sort of run half of Best Razorgirl badly). I want to be some slutty punk razorgril with a robot arm and a (stun?) katana. Problem is, this is a street level game and that's bad for business when you're a street samurai.

Any suggestions? I know the concept I keep wanting to do (street samurai who uses drones) is riiiight out the window, but what else can I get away with?

I treat my setting like a map from an RTS game. It's all covered in fog of war, with major points or locations revealed. Wherever the players go, I reveal that little section. They ask a question about some piece of lore or history, I fill that piece in.

I'm not going to put in 100's of hours of work just so I can make shit up on the spot when my players don't go where I expect, and I'm also not going to force them to see my 100's of hours of work.

What do you do when the characters want to move to the next city over, "Right now"? How would you try to make the next quickly visited city different from the last one? I have players that love to travel, but when they decide to go somewhere else, I feel forced to pause the session until I'm able to gather my wits as I'm already pulling things out of my ass enough as it is.

Or to put it more bluntly: Can an RPG story with a whole party of heroes ever be more than hasty patchwork? Is not all its ambition to literary meaning merely superficial decoration for an arbitrary and abstract game of chance? Is not maybe the revelation of this failure through conflicting character action that culminates in a breakdown of inner logic which then gets patched with out-of-genre solutions the real challenge of roleplaying?

I don't believe that this just denotes the line between role players and roll players. Even roll players have strong expectations concerning genre and their part of the story. And even passionate role players defer to the motions of plot created by mechanics of the game.

How does this play out in your group? Does everyone work together to create a whole, or are players more concerned with their own character and ignore differing perspectives they are confronted with in the game?

What makes a PC relevant? Can they ever be authentic creative product, or do the necessities of a game limit them to hollow repetition of tropes?

In general though I have no idea how that would work since even in spinoffs, Doctor Who revolves around there being one supernaturally amazing character who the others just kinda hang with. That doesn't really mesh with there being a full party of adventurers.

The Doctor's pretty much a plot device, moreso than a character. Not that he lacks character, by any means, but most episodes have him and his companion(s) running from things right up until it's time for the Doctor to shout "God, it was so obvious! How did I miss that?" and then he talks/technobables up the solution to this week's problem. So yeah, I personally would avoid having them teamed up with the walking deus ex machina if possible, as they may come to resent him

Our group got couple of tons of Orichalcum and now we are creating a currency in a 2.5 campaign.
We did some negotiations with guild and we will try to spread our currency through all of the threshold, the fact that one of our solars has Cult 5 helps us even more because he will enforce orichalcum currency trade within the church and also will influence all of the followers of the cult so that they use the currency too.
What dangers are we going to face soon? How buttmad is empire going to get when they hear of an Orchicalcum currency?

Money is literally the least valuable thing you can make out of orichalcum, and a couple tons isn't going to make even the fraction of the coinage needed to have it spread further than your backyard, so the Realm's mostly going to laugh their asses off and make wanking gestures in your direction.
