about to jump into the eternal war of the 41st millennium. been reading a lot of the lore and i am torn. i cant for the life of me chose a chapter to devote myself too.
In my time of need i come to you to help me decide.
You do realize you don't have to play Space Marines, right?
>>45313855
There are lots and lots to choose from, but keep in mind, as >>45313866 said, there's plenty more to latch onto in the setting besides Astartes.
Even more importantly, you can make your own chapter.
>>45313945
I want my chapter to be called the Sweet Babies
ITT it is 1996 show me your decks
>>45313748
That'd be pedophilia, mate.

>you will never be a hunky human warrior
>you will never go into battle with your goblin bros
>you will never make their sisters swoon when you return to town
I dont like Goblins
>>45312568
I'm afraid I don't follow.
Actually, I am a hunky human warrior. Not quite THAT hunky, but still, 1/3 ain't bad.
What does /tg/ think of Dungeon World?
>>45311204
People seem to think its shit for being simple or something. I played it as one of my first RPG's and loved it but we got tired of it pretty quick and moved to D&D 5E and haven't ever looked back

But rules-light systems are more popular than ever.
>>45311204
It's fine.
I like the GM/Player collaboration.

What if Power lances were S: User AP: 2 on the charge, and goes down to AP4 after that?
What would happen to the 40K universe if the Orks suddenly got their own version of the Emperor?
They'd fight endlessly to see who the new Emperor would be when the old one died.
You know, like smaller warbands do but on a galactic scale. Then they'd break apart into smaller warbands and it'd all be pointless.
>>45309750
You mean a super-powerful psyker? Because that's basically what he was.
I guess he's be insanely powerful because he'd draw his strength from the WAAAGH! and the psychic energy generated by the orks he led with incredible finesse compared to 'Eadbangas.

So anon, what are you doin' currently?
Juggling between working on a fantasy and a sci-fi setting, not really committing to either right now.
How do I do a grimdark setting that's not cringey and not a blatant 40k ripoff?
Trying to build a credible world map. At the moment I only have basic tectonics and major mountain chains outlined as well as some deserts and a few big rivers. Haven't yet gotten around to making levels/altitudes. The world is meant to be the same size as Earth with a single moon. Have also just marked out the basic territories of the major factions on the eastern continent.
Reading basics on climate, currents and such to flesh the map out further so I can make necessary alterations to the factions. May add an underwater civ later. When I'm satisfied I'll try recreating to look like a real map later.

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are the Imperiate – the one true tyrant of the thousand hells. That is, if you can survive long enough to reclaim your inheritance.
In order to ensure you’re kickass enough to take your varied enemies head on, you and a select cadre of badass old guys (plus your dog) are going to telezap into Canada. From there, you’ll go tripping over to the shores of Lake Superior, where you will claim the anchor node of an elemental spirit. Its power shall be mastered as your own.
Failure is not an option. If you mess up this spirit business, you’ll be too weak to confront all the power players who want to destroy you. The King in Yellow, the Archduke of Mardusia, and a Stygian Grand Wyrmwrither all want you gone, and now you can go and add some jerk named Cadwyn to the mix.
Time is running out. Tonight, you ride.
--
You’re as ready as you’ll ever be on short notice. Isaac’s got the guns, Borislav’s got the dog, and you’ve got yourself. You don’t know what Ranthix’s got, but you don’t doubt he’s bringing more than enough of it.
And here you are, standing the garage ready to ride out on motorcycles to Muir Woods to get to teleporting across the continent. Your ultimate American hero dad is coming with, too, on his vintage older-than-you motorbike.
Man. Your life is cool as fucking hell.
Though Isaac’s leather jacket is kind of gay. “Isaac,” you say, wincing incredulously, “you’re kind of... the lamest person I know. You know?”
He gives you a slightly crestfallen look. “So Rowan’s finally gotten to you,” he says.
The slight but tangible coppery vibes from him are like a punch in the gut.
>>45309116
You can’t have Isaac saying crap like that.
You snort, floundering to accentuate the humor of the comment. “Ro’s just too used to having you around,” you tell him. “I mean, you’re still badass as all get-out. Like. You’re like the coolest person ever. It’s just – you know. I mean you’re lame too is what I’m saying,” you say, immediately regretting the words coming out of your mouth.
Really - coolest person ever? Who tells anyone that with a straight face? Eughk.
The effect your blundering has on your paternal guardian figure is subtle, but noticeable. He smirks cockily and spins his helmet between his hands, before donning it and mounting up. “Why don’t we see who’s lame on the road,” he says, mounting his bike and keying the engine.
The motorcycle rumbles gloriously to life.
>>45309120
Unable to resist the call of multiple motorcycles riding together, you slip on your own helmet and hop on your own ride. Together, you glide down the driveway and out onto the road – Borislav throws his truck into gear and leads the way, Reeber hunkered down and barking excitedly in the back.
After your convoy negotiates its way out of the city, you find yourself out on the Golden Gate, sunset on the Pacific on your left. The orangey reddish burst casts all kinds of violet and pinkish shadows on the striated clouds in the sky. The cool temperature is accentuated by riding along out in the open, a strong ocean wind rushing past outside the visor of your helmet.
At your side rides Isaac, laid back and at ease on the road. He still looks kind of gay, but the same act probably looked badass back in the 70’s. Borislav’s beat-up pickup truck rumbles along in front of you, headlights cutting through the dimming shadows on the road.
>Enjoy moment for what it is. Appreciate the beauty of your domain and all that jazz.
>Race ahead – you don’t see no cops. Speeding is an age-old tradition older than the mountains.
>Try to tempt fate by wondering loudly where Ranthix is.
>Screw around with hokey road tricks. You could totally pop a wheelie on this thing.
>Stay frosty. You got to keep on your toes until you’re done with this thing.

>CMON Kickstarters
Dredging this up from the last thread because curious.
Explain why the above deserves any sort of hate.
>Hey guys, here's a game, if there's enough interest via funding we'll make it
>for backing this from the get go, here's some free shit that we'll do because it's making enough money to warrant it
So like, are you mad that you are broke when the kickstarters happen? Or that "founders" get bonuses?
As far as I know, retail versions of CMON stuff is complete, all the Kickstarter stuff is extra.
I want to write it off as petty whining, but the urge to know more is stronk
>>45309282
I'm not sure exactly, but probably because they have a pretty high msrp. Some people are a little turned off by kickstarter as a whole. Others find pause when it comes to the games all being mini heavy. I personally found all of the cmon games to be a little lacking. In my view they try to compensate for this by the whole 'cool mini' aspect. In the end I'm pretty neutral about it all. I'll play the games but I don't get hyped at all for them, nor do I contribute to kickstarter.

Stronghold 2nd edition.
Surely the defender will hold next game, they got kinda close this time!
THE END IS NIGH!
At least, that's what the homeless man standing outside of the main building of your place of work, Trioxin Industries, insisted on yelling at anyone who passed by. Sure, the company has been victim to some bad press lately, as you'd expect from a group which develops experimental chemicals for potential military usage, but that wasn't the business of the accountants who resided on the 23rd floor. They would prefer the world didn't come to an end, as they were hosting their own Christmas party that evening. Yup, as the big shots in corporate where hosting some kind of gala across town, the little guys where determined to have a celebration of their own for another year of good business, before going home to their families for Christmas.
Of course, that's not going to happen. You read the title of this story. The end IS nigh.
But for now, there's an office party to enjoy, and a character to select.
A) Charlie Carpenter: The quiet guy in the office. Tends to stick to his cubicle and keep to himself, except for when he occasionally takes time out to nervously stare at the floor's receptionist, as if nobody notices him. Still, he's not that much of a creep, just kinda... shy. Anyway, dude's smart as hell. Makes you wonder why he's wasting his time here and not down in the labs working on... whatever it is they do there.
B) Annie Craven: The girl's sweet as all hell, if a little... kooky. Okay, maybe kooky is a bit rude, but she is a bit too... enthusiastic about everything. Especially horror movies. I mean boy is she a huge fan of those. She keeps a signed Dawn of the Dead poster on her cubicle wall, plus a figurine of the Tarman from Return of the Living Dead on her desk... that she herself made. Liked around the office by pretty much everyone but Margaret, the middle aged woman in the cubicle beside her, who has complained countless times that her "obscene" mementos and paraphernalia be removed, to no avail.
>>45308850
C) Brian Barker: Ugh, this guy. He's the nephew of one of the higher ups, and that's definitely the only reason he's still working here. Kid lives in a penthouse apartment but apparently he thinks he's from "the streets". Between his obnoxious attitude, trying to sell people his mixtapes, and his general "Fuck Authority" attitude, he's a total nightmare for HR. He's always bragging about his workout routine and how he's a "straight killa" after spending one day at a firing range. Nobody likes this guy.
D) Ben Romero: Wait, what the hell is he doing here? Romero's been one of the company's main shareholders for 15 years and... well, he's an odd one. He doesn't seem to be involved in much of the company's practices. In fact, he only shows up maybe once or twice a year to stir up shit with the CEO, always making sure to cause a scene. And now it seems he's ditched the gala in favour of crashing the 23rd floor's Christmas Party. The dude's a real alcoholic, as evidenced by him grabbing whatever piece of liquor he can get his hands on. Scary dude. You ever look in someone's eyes and just know "Yep, he's totally killed someone before"? Well, that's your first thought when you take a look at this guy.
Which one of these characters will be braving the City of the Dead? The Choice is yours!

It has been such a short time since your tribe has come to this cold, harsh land. Already your people have found a home worth living in, the Deep Cave housing your people against the freezing cold nights to some degree. Already a grave has been dug, the first of your clan laid low by a giant troll. Your Scouts have pushed deep to the south, back from whence you came in an attempt to find something of interest.
Much to their surprise they found a small village but, something isn’t right. The people here are human but none speak a word, even when approached by your Scouts. Finally a small group step out before your towering Scout. Their bodies are small by your standards, human-sized and devoid of hair their soft blue skin stands out against their grey clothes. They look up to your kin with eyes that look almost as if painted on. Their voice is sweet, soothing and impossible to replicate. “Have you come to do us harm?”

THREAD NOW.
You wake up and head downstairs to find that your uncle hasn't wasted any time. There are already a few people seated eating breakfast, and there's a new guy waiting tables. Your uncle comes out from the kitchen with a plate for you.
"I guess the demand was there, since as soon as changed the sign, I had people coming in." your uncle tells you. "Luckily I already talked to a guy yesterday about taking a new shift. So I'll be working longer hours, but business is gonna be booming! Eat your heart out, Teuchi!"
Your uncle heads back in the kitchen, and you eat your meal. Afterwards, you head outside. It's looking to be as beautiful a day as ever. Perfect to continue your training. That is, unless you think of something you'd rather get done first.

Working on an assignment for my Public Speaking course (college requirement, otherwise I wouldn't be doping this shit). As an introductory thing, each student needs to give a 2-3 minute show-and-tell presentation/speech. I'm doing mine on 40k. I'll probably bring in the rulebook and some models from a couple of my armies.
What exactly should I focus on? Should I talk on how the game is played, the setting, the hobby? This is where I'm kind of lost because this is a very short presentation, not something that I can or should use to explain everything.
