You are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House.
It is from this world that you draw your fleets and armies from. Both have seen their share of action with anti-piracy actions, the battle of Magdalena, and a follow up planetary assault. Elements are deployed elsewhere helping to strengthen your allies while others have been recalled to the capital.
As the Dominion slips deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space. The war has returned to the DRH1 Relay as you and your allies attempt to take advantage of temporary weakness shown by House Bonrah. You don't know if this will accelerate plans of theirs and House Nasidum to invade the area early in the next year. At the very least it will deny them an existing supply base for their fleet when it arrives.
Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander, leading sections of the fleet when you feet it necessary to split up. Knight Captain Kim Yu Chung has been assisting with this, largely deploying with your siege forces.
Uyi Rna is the General of your Army and has been overseeing large scale assaults when capturing planets and outposts.
Wiremu Tama is the admiral of your Fleet. He's been acting as an adviser and helping to coordinate use of starfighter forces.
Fadila Saqqaf is your leading diplomatic adviser. Her connections have been stirring up dissent on worlds loyal to Bonrah.
Chide Dlam'ard, the Governor of Rioja is working with other Governors to help fortify your worlds in your absence.Anyone wishing to discuss /qst/ issues are directed to go here.

Meta discussion and trolling regarding qst in thread should be filtered, ignored or reported.
With the declaration of war against House Bonrah, Jerik-Dremine and its allies in the relay have begin an invasion of Bonrah space. Your forces have swept through their allied Minor Houses completely overwhelming their fleets and defenses.
Bonrah has begun to retreat to their few habitable worlds in the region conducting scorched earth tactics to deny resources to the invading fleets. Meanwhile their most valuable starships are seeking refuge beneath the planetary shields of their strongholds where they will be difficult to dislodge.
Faster ships better suited to hit and run attacks have gone into hiding for the moment. This will complicate things if the Bonrah fortress worlds are blockaded or laid siege to as supply lines may come under attack.
Up until now your numerical superiority in the region has been helping to ensure swift local victories against more isolated locations that are resisting. Bonrah reinforcements could reach the area in as little as 5 or 6 days but at the moment you have little information on their other movements.
Your forces have recently captured a logistics base before the station crew could scuttle the supplies being held there. Drake's fleet likewise took a nearby sensor array, though not before a portion of the sensors could be evacuated to parts unknown.
With scorched earth tactics intensifying the Ruling House and Ber'helum agree that the fleets should move with all speed to secure remaining locations.
While you, Drake and Kim have been leading fleets this far in the invasion you have others are your disposal if you want to further split up your units further. Admiral Tama could easily lead carrier groups on his own and many of your squadron leaders haven't had less opportunity to show their skills.
How do you want to divide up your fleet, and which targets do you want to focus on?

Pointers for drafting:
For the first four packs, pick the strongest card in the booster regardless of the color. Priorities are strong removal and bombs (cards an opponent HAS to deal with or they lose the game after you cast it).
After that, start picking cards in colors you got the most stuff in and picks that synergise well
Pay attention to the cards left in the booster after a few picks. If there are no good cards of a certain color, it means that people are picking cards of that color - you should stay away from that color because you're hurting your own chances of getting something good in it
You're aiming for a two color deck, maybe splashing a third color. Splashing is easier to do if you have some cards that can fix your mana - most of these are in green
Don't be scared of changing your color a few picks into the second booster, after the direction of drafting changes. If you've been picking white/red in the first pack, but are being passed great green cards in the second pack, wheel into green. You'll still be able to snag some good green cards in the third pack. Don't change your color in the third pack, though.
Removal and efficient, low-cost creatures are the most important thing in limited. Likewise, auras aren't as valuable UNLESS they can be flashed in (such as the flash aura that gives a creature +3/+0 and first strike). Generally an aura is just painting a big target on a creature so your opponent can 2for1 it.
Play 17 lands and 23 spells. 15 creatures and 8 noncreature spells. Unless you're really familiar with a draft environment, don't force yourself into archetypes or try to build insane combos. Most of the time, building a solid, on-curve deck is the key.
2-drops and 3-drops should be your most numerous creatures. You should have an expensive fatty or two for lategame somewhere in the deck as well.
Evasion (flying, skulk, unblockable) is very strong because it forces your opponent to have an answer or die

Hello there, elegan/tg/entlemen!
Long time lurker and casual poster here. As we all know, this is the very best board in 4chan, and as such, I bring you an offering.
I've started writing a webcomic with a friend, based on the stories of the best campaign I've ever played. It was set in a homebrew world called simply "Abnor", which heavily relied on collaborative input from players that were free to create lands and cultures and loads of crazy shit. Our DM was very skilled at improvisation, and we had lots of fun with our light hearted game with no "that guys" or any drama at all. Well, being a three similarly minded men group, DM included, surely helped a lot in that respect, and I really wish every one of you may experience such a delightful game someday if you already haven't. Sometimes I wonder if traditional games aren't the ultimate way to create memories and make friendship bonds stronger...
So, as this project is a love letter to everything rpg related, I wanted to share it with you. I took some narrative liberties to make it a little more interesting in this new medium, but the spirit is the same of the original game. The DM of the campaing highly approves it, and I think it might be better than a simple greentext storytime.
You can read it at www.abnor.com.br, with a new page every monday, but I'll dump everything we have published so far. Thanks, /tg/, I really like you all!

Horse equivalents that aren't giant birds? Special interest in animals native to the Western hemisphere - I've been playing with the idea of transplanting the "standard fantasy setting" into an American geography rather than a European one. Greg Stolze already did that with Ardwin, but that just didn't have horses and I do like mounted knights.
Do camels count? They are still used in Africa and the near East. Going into something a little less common, you can use buffaloes, bisons (the European Bison nearly went extinct, but used to be quite frequent), elks, and possibly - if you stretch it a bit - brown bears. If you extend "Western"a bit, antelopes and gazelles can work as well.
>>47037512
We have giant goats in our game.
It did start in a mountainous region.
>>47037512
What's wrong with llamas?
I put cute things in my games and my players love them.
They have a baby displacer beast that follows them around, a young bard who writes really stupid songs about the party because she's upset that they won't let her join them, and they put most of their gold into helping out a special orphanage for children with either magical talent or are not one of the common races.

I like you, OP.
>You can form a colored layer of oxidation on an iron blade by polishing the metal and heating it to a specific temperature.
>These sorts of treatments were probably pretty common, though they often don't survive on weapons recovered from archaeological sites. Some of the weapons I study (which were buried in graves and, hence, are now heavily corroded) have surviving traces in their metallurgy of having been carefully heated to the right temperature to turn their blades bright blue when they were new. Others have inlayed copper alloy decorations which are hard to see on uncolored steel, but which really pop when the metal is turned black or blue. Brian Gilmour has argued that these kinds of surface finishes were widespread, but have in many cases been polished off by years of over-zealous Victorian museum curators who tried to keep the weapons artificially shiny, and I think he's correct.
What kind of man wields a blue sword?

>How does the inexorable march of progress affect and react to the default level of magic?
Wrong order, really. Magic progresses just like everything else.
I tend to like settings where all the default assumptions of D&D are in place, but *changing*.
- Humans continue to ascend and advance.
- Powerful spellcasters are starting to take control of nations for one reason or another
- Small principalities and city-states are starting to band together into true nation-states
- Dwarves have reclaimed most of their ancient delves by now and are adapting human and gnomish technological advancements. They're entering a golden age.
- Elves have more-or-less finished their withdrawal from the main world into their forest/island kingdoms, but this has resulted in a concentration of magical power and ancient knowledge that basically turns them into superpowers.
- Gnomes are tinkering like crazy and developing new devices like gunpowder and the printing press
- Halflings...are still halflings, actually, wandering vagabonds, basically gypsies.
- Drow society has finally grown beyond Lolth's ability to control it, and is collapsing
- Orcs, goblinoids, and gnolls have been pushed as far as they can go into hinterlands; they have reached a point where they must either civilize or die out.
- Dragons are realizing that as isolated individuals they're strong but vulnerable and are starting to form councils.
- Mind Flayers have learned that their promised afterlife with the Elder Brains is a lie and have gone into a full civil war mode.
- The pantheon has undergone a major shakeup (Time of Troubles style), resulting in a number of new gods ascending, and the demise or depowerment of several established gods (in order to introduce a shake-up similar to the Protestant Reformation).
- A New World has been discovered.

No pirates to speak of in my current setting, just lizardmen brigands.
