The players are all working as rent-a-cops in Shadowrun (or similar setting where players are usually guns for hire.) They are in a taskforce that was formed to stop a rampaging group of mercenaries who are doing a lot of property damage, leaving behind a huge trail of bodies and generally behaving like typical murderhobo players.

The GM makes a briefing by searching a sufficiently outrageous story about an RPG session and turning it into a police report.

It didn't make me more attractive or confident. It made me realize I was a leader, though... sort of. I was doing it for years before a girl in the group (who is currently married to another player) pointed out how things just didn't seem to happen without my presence or approval. Like, if we were planning to see a movie, I would be the one to pick the theater and time.

We're all older adults now (the group has been playing together since we were kids in 1986) so that's not hardly the case any more. Getting married, having kids.. if you're still following at that point, turn in your man card.

I would like to take a moment and discuss some features I've been looking at implementing into the game, and others that I am tempted to remove. Of course, the features that would be implemented would be replaced with the newly implemented features. You can see them here: http://pastebin.com/1WgGqFCB

A suggestion make a inheritcance system or something similar to floors, while flawed it makes it so that returning players have some sort of benefit come back to the game with a fresh char.

Make customization of custom items and mabye the chance for custom abilities to suit a players play-style.

What about a sort of destiny/lineage system, similar to the Llama bank in floors? If someone has the tripcode for the items then they can use any recovered on character death.

Also, with how the mechanics behind recipes and new item level functions, characters would be able to target the weapon traits or skills directly and just wish to add something onto it. This could be done by adding any new variable to the mix, such as a monster part that contains flammable fluid, or a piece of equipment that is innately lighter than it should be. Other stuff like that.

In essence, the recipe list would turn into a 'place two items or more in here, choose features and skills, get new item based on the combination and choices made' system instead of just slapping two items together and hoping they become better.

While that is a good idea and i appluad you for that, honestly i do not believe that the linieage system is a good idea mabye make it like a veteran system where the more your char lasts before death they may recieve bonuses such as possible starting items or a starting skill.
Another one would be to improve ranged combat, it seems honestly very dull at the moment compared to melee mabye enhance ranged combat or simply make it more rewarding to use it rather than simply attacking from a distance.
Such as mabye add ranged skills or a ranged race or class of sorts to make it seem more rewarding as not only does the for example the grand-blade can outdo the average long iron. Plus the long iron requests ammo maybe make ammo or ranged weapons more customize or more rewarding.

One last one would be to improve the elemental stone system it seems just a buff at the moment something you use as a sort of stepping stone.
Mabye focus more on the elements mabye make a sort of magic system although seeing so far i doubt a magic system may work but it is a suggestion at the least.

I know this is a bait thread, but ill bite.

The apples had gone sour. Sure they could have given us a fresh batch, but it would still be apples. Ive already had too many apples, and was looking for something different.

They handed me these oranges. These oranges are not to everyone's tastes, but they were oh so delicious to me, and others.At this point I hadnt realized how sour those apples were when I tasted one just for old time's sake. Fuck the apples. I'm all about the oranges, now they announced 2 more flavors of oranges, one is even sort of an apple flavor. I am looking forward to it.

Assuming that they are clad in the same clothing/armour/whatever-suits-your-heretical-fancy, and are equipped with generic weaponry, would a Howling Banshee look and/or fight no differently from a Wych?

Banshee's fight to kill, so it would be as fast and efficient as possible. Wych's fight for the entertainment of a crowd, so they'd probably play with their enemy for a bit, and also throw in some unnecessary acrobatics and maybe some sexualised stretching and bending over.
In addition, the Banshee's pretty much would say nothing during the entire fight, while Wych's would be laughing, giggling, and mocking their enemy for whole time.
Lastly, because Banshees are used to wearing armour, their defensive style would revolve around ducking and deflecting enemy strikes, whereas Wyches, who are used to wearing little-to-no armour would base their defensive style around flips, spins, and rolls so they don't have to block or deflect, which risks the enemy weapon still coming into contact with you.

Assuming they are in their war persona - which they'd have to be to count for this scenario - they would be fully in character, emulating the Crone's banshees. And those things aren't the quiet types.

My group went with the idea that some are promethium based and sound like chainsaws while others have an electric motor and merely whirr like a hedge trimmer on steroids.

And the motors don't get clogged with flesh and other assorted material because the design is highly advanced. Like honestly, the design is thousands of years ahead of what we have on Earth. That's the thing with the Imperium in WH40k, they have some really advanced tech which they can produce and it's almost mundane for them while other stuff they use is outdated because they don't entirely comprehend how all their stuff works and the schematics/rituals for building stuff aren't being shared to everyone.

I've been wanting to run a Call of Cthulhu game for a long time but I've got a problem: I hate Cthulhu.

Not Cthulhu himself, and not Lovecraft, Lovecraft is great. But the modern era I feel has diluted the horror, and the RPG hasn't helped. Too much showing, too comprehensible. The 7th edition seems to be aware of the path the RPG was on when it removed stuff like servitor races.

They actually wrote a whole supplement about it, Nameless Horrors, mentioning the tragic situation where a horrible monster appears behind the investigators and they're like "Oh it's a ghoul, they resist guns so we'll need melee attacks." But then they release a fucking Field Guide to "mythos" monsters with a dichotomous key, as if you're birdwatching or some shit. You can tell a blarp from a goob cause a blarp has an orange schmengle and a goob's is blue. Which I feel misses the point of Lovecraft so hard it's not even on the register.

So I kind of want to look away from Chaosium altogether. Anybody else in the same boat? This is a thread to share stuff that you've seen in media or came up with yourself that fits the Lovecraft/Call of Cthulhu themes and imagery, but isn't mythos. Stuff your investigators won't recognize. The greatest fear is the fear of the unknown, after all, and the mythos is the opposite of unknown at this point. Here's some of my faves.

Michael LaBossiere's adventures are good examples and I think they're all free now. Short, freaky, monster-a-week style scenarios that provide good ideas for stuff of your own if you don't like the format.

The Secret World's Filth is awesome - http://thesecretworldguide.weebly.com/filth-lore.html - and I'm cribbing some of the ideas for my own contribution to the thread: Something akin to the Filth leaks in a cave and links the minds of those exposed, forming an alien consciousness that gets smarter and more demanding with each new brain in its network.

In my CoC one-shots, I always tried to come up with something completely new, that still evoked the atmosphere and feel of Lovecraft's works. Minimal explanation, few answers, just terror and frenzied attempts at survival and slap dash solutions. The entire genre is about fear of the unknown and unknowable, which basically precludes using established, familiar threats, unless you can angle them in a way that evokes the same response.

About two years ago on /tg/, a bunch of anons came up with an idea for a game setting. Night Shift is that product--a story about a gas station in the middle of nowhere, and the creepy occurrences that happen during its late-night shift.

Night Shift was originally meant to be a game setting. Then, NSW Anon started to make a game. Eventually, he and I started writing a script for the pilot of a TV show based on this. You guys loved the idea. But after our proposal was shot down, we decided to go ahead and try to make it an indie short film.

We couldn't find a suitable director, so we shelved it for a while. Then, NSW Anon and I agreed that I should film it. I've got a rag-tag team of actors, editors, and a film ready to start--but this teaser was filmed and edited 100% by myself. Hence the bad quality... But I promise you that the final product will be better.

At this point, that's unknown. During the summer when everyone has time off, we plan to shoot 5 minutes proof-of-concept footage. After that, we'll make a Kickstarter to fund the full film.
