You guys lied to me. This is the most unlikable Mary Sue protagonist ever, who's an instant prodigy at strategy, hand-to-hand combat, sharpshooting, archaic weapon shooting, swordsmanship, and flying, who's beautiful and perfect and her only flaw is that she gets angry when people do unjust things and won't let politics get in the way of what's right. The worst part is that everyone either loves her, hates her and then realizes how awesome she is, or hates her just because she's a girl.
Check out Legend of the Galactic Heroes.
It's one of the greatest pieces of science fiction entertainment produced.

You are Brianna la Croix, last of the Blind Marsh la Croix, and this geargrinder has offered you vengeance against the people who killed your entire family.
That mother fucker.
>>48742404
"You don't get a fucking thing, do you?" you ask, letting the rage color your voice. "I've never done anything to the innocent, and I never will. And that's what these geargrinders are, aren't they? Innocent souls, waiting for the chance to be born, who've never done anyone else any wrong. But you know what, I can almost get it. I'm angry. You know I'm angry. I can almost, /almost/, see the fucking logic in assuming I'd stoop to your level."
"Lady -" Oak begins, but he silences himself when you make a harsh gesture.
"I wasn't done," you tell him, coldly. "I don't like that you're manipulating me. I don't like that it's working, either, but congratulations Oak, it is. You've got a deal, you ticking little shit. Get your unborn away from the field of battle. They'll be cared for."
"Where should we put them?" Oak asks, quietly, sensing that now is not the time for cunning.
"The Broken Jaw, in Cannot Hold. I'll ask...someone...to watch them. Natalia, maybe."
"The Traitor -"
"IS NO MORE!" you roar. "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!"
"...This is acceptable," Oak agrees, at last.
"You and your father have no idea what my name means these days, do you?" It's not exactly a question. You sigh, fury making your voice ragged, and shake off the hands on your shoulders. "How did you get here?"
"I took a book into the Athenaeum. I was met there by the Poet and the Caretaker, who questioned my purpose extensively, and passed me along my way. They believed that you would wish to hear me out."
Well. He's not wrong.
"Getting back will not be as swift, but I have transportation across the Sunless Sea, and the Wyrm will bear me across the Mire to deliver your message," Oak adds.

Recently: You're battling Team Imperium's General Harris as a distraction while everyone sneaks away in a tunnel.
General rules:
There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.
Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.
Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear vote winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever! This is not a video game. Weak moves tend to be quicker.

So, what do you think of the latest reveals with Sun and Moon, Gobble?
Seems Game Freak are really treating the newest Team as a joke this time around,
You really want to take this chance to make a break for it, but you just can’t let those people get hit. You hope you don’t regret this.
“Destiny! Ice Beam!”
Destiny twirls and fires off a beam of ice against the five headed Dodrio. It’s a really tricky shot, but since the goal is to specifically freeze the puss, Destiny is able to get most of it before it bursts.
“Ah!” One of the people yells as she holds her hand. You can see smoke coming off of it.
A few other people jump away and brush bits off their clothes, but nobody is seriously hurt. judging at how some of the frozen goo sizzles through the ice, that could have gone much, much worse.
Dodrio sighs and many of it’s eyes roll. It looks terribly sick.
“Your injured Pokemon won’t stand a chance against what I have coming up next. No more play time.”
You lock eyes with Harris. He seems pretty set on beating you in front of these people.
>Finish your battle. You can get away after

ITT: Shit DMs do that pisses you off
>mumble a description directly out of a module while looking down at it
>presenting a game as sandboxy or even hexcrawl-ish, then two or three sessions in it's ALL ABOARD THE DM'S CRAPPY NOVEL EXPRESS
>favoritism in general
Never had pic related happenbesides in Final Fantasy VIIbut that sounds awful too.
>new players enter the group
>always ask if they can perform a certain action rather than just saying, "I do this thing"
>DM points out they don't need permission to use their skills
>whenever they use their skills, DM interjects and says, "You can't do that!"
I mean, he could have explained some of the basic mechanics to the players first, like how initiative works, range of spells and weapons, etc. so they wouldn't be calling out all kinds of actions that they can't necessarily perform in a given situation. Instead, he practices alienating new players who end up losing interest in roleplaying altogether.
>inconsistent application of rules in similar situations
>fudging rolls
>ever uttering the words, "I want to tell a story" in reference to the campaign
>thinking it is clever or original to kill PCs' families
>not letting player characters die unless it's "dramatically appropriate"
>vague house rules
>refusal to let characters do anything that isn't on their sheet
>>48774824
Honestly, I think extensive skill lists lend themselves to this problem, where players look to their sheet for what they can do instead of thinking, "what could a person like my character do in this situation?"
Newfag here.
What does /tg/ think of D&D 5e?
PS: Sorry for being a newfag.
It's fine. Out of the Abyss and Curse of Strahd are fun modules.
Positive qualities:
It's not 3.5/PF.
Negative qualities:
It's still D&D. Twincast Bardic Horse
>>48766419
It has all the basic flaws of DnD. It's a marginal improvement over 3.5e and 4e but it still sucks.
If you like the idea of a skirmish wargame-lite in a fantasy setting, play a wargame that does that. If you like the idea of an RPG, play a proper RPG and not this shit.
>>48784861
>>48784922
"What's so funny?" you demand of Tao.
"You really don't see how hopeless your situation is?" Tao asks, sounding highly amused. "Right, I guess you can't detect energy. This new body of mine is a wonderful thing. And, it tells me your energy is dropping fast. Another minute, maybe two, and you'll be unable to keep fighting."
He laughs once again. "All I have to do is outlast you for that long, and you'll be helpless."
Another minute, maybe two. That's all the time you have left. At the rate this fight's going, that won't be nearly enough time for you to defeat Tao.
But, there is a chance you could defeat him in a much shorter timeframe.
It's an extreme gamble, but it may be your only choice right now.
Closing your eyes, you find what remains of your power; a well of energy that's steadily draining through the hole Tao put in your body. You harness that power, and, with a yell, magnify it.
Below you, Tao frowns, his energy-detecting parts presumably telling him that your power is increasing.
You give him little time to mull over that, zooming down and kicking him in the face just before you land, sending him sliding across the ground on his back and crashing through the wall at the edge of the ring.
Tao picks himself up, growling at you and taking aim before firing another wave of energy from his palm.
You easily dodge it, but Tao comes rushing at you, intending to attack while you're distracted trying to evade his attack.
Using the Afterimage Technique, you avoid his strike, and Tao cuts through a mere illusion.
You appear behind you, slamming both fists into the back of his head and sending him sliding across the ground on his face, stopping near the edge of the ring.
"Damn you!" Tao shouts, picking himself back up and glaring over at you.
You rush across the ring, and he moves to meet you, only to receive a knee to his gut for his efforts.
>Continued
He staggers back, clutching his chest, and heaving from the pain.
He's completely vulnerable; now is your chance to strike!
You feel your power rapidly beginning to drop, and know that you've run out of time. In a few seconds at the most, you will be defenseless.
>A. Just a little more time! (80)
>B. Forget it, let your energy return to normal and try to conserve what little is left so you don't pass out (50)
>>48785259
>A.

Shinobi Quest #30
This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.
(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, Tsuki Norihime observed the infiltration of Konoha by the shinobi of Otogakure, or “The Village Hidden in Sound”, and their new allies from Sunagakure.
By speaking to Genma, she learned the political motivators behind the move, and decided that Danzo needed to know. Though she had a compelling argument for re-establishing ROOT, she decided not to press the issue until she could prove her power.
After a short respite, she chose to visit the camp of the visiting Amegakure shinobi, and was able to gain an audience with Hanzo the Salamander, legendary leader of that village, though she wasn’t able to glean much from the conversation. Heading home, she was suffused with a feeling of unease- something was very wrong in her village.

Future Naruto Quest
This quest is set within the universe of Naruto, long after the end of the series, but ignoring the events of the Boruto Manga. Of course, because this is Naruto we're talking about, the geopolitics and technology haven't advanced as quickly as they would in the real world. As such, the technology is similar to that of Boruto the Movie, and the villages you know and love are largely the same.
However, the characters will be less familiar, because as much time has passed between the Last and now as passed between the Founding of the Hidden Villages and the Main Series.
Last Quest, you had a meaningful talk with your sister, napped on the bathroom floor, and learned your first jutsu. This Quest, you have your first training with Hōōmaru-sensei.
You are Kuro Nijiiroh, a newly-minted genin of Konohagakure, and it's the morning you're supposed to meet with Hōōmaru-sensei for your first one-on-one training with her. And according to Hakurin, the entire first day of training was stamina training. by fighting alone against a jounin. You hope that the stamina training you did yesterday, along with the water ninjutsu that you've learned, you'll be able to get out of the training better than your teammate did. Tying your headband around your belt, and slipping on your coat, you rush towards the training ground, and hope that your sensei being late for your first meeting was a fluke.
You get to the training ground ten minutes before the appointed meeting time, and glance around to see if you beat Hōōmaru-sensei here. Suddenly, you feel yourself lifted into the air, and then you're dangling from a tree by the ankle, staring into your sensei's blue eyes. She clicks her tongue, "You really cut it close there, Kuro, I was almost worried you were going to be late." You wonder why she's not wearing her flak jacket, if you're going to be training rigorously today. Apparently, she wanted to look presentable and professional for your first meeting, she informs you as she glares at you. You're not sure why any ninja would decide to wear some kind of skirt and button down shirt while ninja'ing, but you got knocked out by an ANBU in a towel, so you're not one to argue. After letting you down, she leads you to the field, adopts a fighting stance, and asks if you're ready.
>A) Yes (Will initiate combat)
>B) Do you know any water style techniques?
>C) Could you teach me the Body Flicker Technique?

Oh boy, it's Gobble!
Dan lifts himself from his embedded spot in the soft ground, taking a few bits of mud and grass. He shakes it off.
“We’ve got company!” Connie yells as she throws her Snorlax towards the Golem.
You only see the one Team Imperium member in the distance through the window in the dark, but soon several more start appearing by the light of opening pokeballs.
“Plunderers.” A voice cracks over a megaphone. “A long drop from being respected community leaders.
“General Harris,” Geno mutters under his breath, recognizing the voice.
“I’ll make you a deal. Send your best to battle me. Let me crush them into dust. If you win, I’ll destroy our cameras.”
Your group looks among each other.
“Harris is scum, but he’s never broken his word.” Emma offers. “At least, the exact wording.”
There’s a root cellar that your group might be able to tunnel out of. It’ll take some time, though. There’s also the option to just fight your way out.
