Last time on Song of Swords:

Some ballad shit, and pictures of guns!
SDT Gizka critiques
Song of Swords is a realistic fantasy tabletop RPG that draws inspiration from historical fechtbuchs, weapons and armor. Its combat system is fast and it can be used for both fantasy and historical/mundane settings. Inevitably, you will always have that one gay ass zell in the party everyone works together to kill.
Call of the Void is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.
Here's a MEGA folder with the newest version of the rules as well as all related current working documents. At this time the latest version is v1.9.9:

There's also a roll20 room where new players are encouraged to try the rules, test new rules, and find game breaking issues: https://app.roll20.net/join/346755/hRKd4w
The room might be empty, but the people who teach the game still browse the thread frequently. If you're looking to learn, post here in the thread. We also play Guy Windsor's card game Audatia in the room.
We need to purge this bullshit zell degeneracy with actual campaign stories. Step up and get talking all my proper Chironite brethren.
So, how do your players react to getting arrested? How do you, as a player?

More seriously, I did mean the characters, but some players are dicks about bad luck or their own bad decisions.

What games have fallen flat with you or your group recently?
Do you tend to give games second chances?
What's your unicorn game? Not just a rare game you're looking for, but the game that would be absolutely perfect for you, if it existed
>>49352871
It wasn't recent, but the first time we tried to play Spyfall it kinda sucked. Gave it a second chance a few months later and it finally clicked with our group.
My unicorn games are a true space 4x that can be adjusted for games between 2 hours and 2 days, a giant monster/robot fighting game with a decent amount of tactical depth, and a goddamn pirate game that doesn't have glaring problems.
>fucking waiting on GMT to get me both the new Labyrinth expansion as well as Grand Prix
>>49352992
>robot fighting game with a decent amount of tactical depth
This. Wonder how that not-Armored Core game did after they failed to get the license. Lack of news and the suspicious act of marketing it as an Armored Core game before getting permission probably doomed it I'm guessing? Seemed pretty fun too.
What is the worst sci-fi novel you've ever heard of, /tg/? I'm not talking "I thought Ender's Game was overrated" or "Ready Player One was basically just 80s nostalgia with a crap plot', I mean barely understandable drivel. Think the sci-fi equivalent of pic related. The kind of novel that doesn't just make you wonder how it got published, but why they allow the inmates something as sharp as pens in the first place.

Anything by Weber.
>>49408833
Which Weber?
>>49408846
David Weber.
The Honor Harrington writer.
Do Orks know fear or not? The stories are fucking contradicting each other.
>>49405591
They know fear, but when powered by the WAAAGHH! they become so embroiled with energy that they become fearless.
Individual Orks are about as brave as the average human, but in a large group they're damn near suicidal.
>>49405591
Define fear, we're talking about a fungus that will have a very different brain chemistry to anything on Earth and an emotion that covers everything from nameless dread to foreboding to terror.
>>49405591
Absolutely. The fear of commissar Yarrick.
Why are Dwarves and Elves always at odds?
I know that culturally they are polar opposites, but what is the real source of animosity?
Legolas and Gimli.
Then the meme-train got going (yes, it was around before the internet).
Depends on setting.
Tolkien and the whole "betray the other race for a necklace" thing he had going on.
The BBEG has won, the party has lost.
Tell us what your world is like immediately afterward.
In 100 years.
in 1000 years?
You know the Midnight setting?
Kind of like that, except there's no distinction between divine and arcane magic any more and all of the magic - users are evil instead of just some of them.
>>49395537
>immediately
Race war now
>100 years
Society is now entirely humans from a specific region as all other humans and races in setting were genocided by the BBEG's admittedly awesome technology made possible by magic
>1000 years
Humans are probably close to pseduo-elves now in beauty, sophistication, and lifespan and enjoy shit like orbital space stations and planetary terraforming.
Dudes a racist POS but he's damn smart, not wrong about racial differences holding this particular society back, and lights a fire up his subordinates asses in a good way.

First for dying format.
who do you think is gonna take the trophy home this weekend, bois? My money is on affinity
eli getting that turn 3 win
Rifts thread? Post some Rifts pictures, characters, monsters, locations, etc.
Have you created your own custom content for Rifts, or is there more than enough stuff in the official material?
Why was the game design thread deleted? Are we getting a separate board for game design threads?
ITT: Dump your current PDF and other anons will read it through and give critique on it. Forget the whole "don't post your PDF". Describe your game in a short blurb and if it catches interest people will read your PDF. That way you get critique on your little elevator pitch thing (which is important too) and on your actual game instead of isolated mechanics out of context.
Reposting from last thread, yeah its strange that they deleted this, if mods could tell us why
What do you guys think of this mechanic
D12+D6+skills+stats(The D6 is the wild die, if the d6 lands in 1 and the d12 too, it is a critical failure, if the d6 lands in 6 and the d12 in 12 it is a critical success)
Im currently making a game and finding it very hard to stay focused long enough to actually write down all the rule in my head. Anyway to help?
>>49332632
What I do is just open Docpad and start writing down every idea that comes to mind
Then later I write the core concepts for rules down on paper and start asking questions about how they'll work with each other and how to best emulate the type of game I'm trying to make.
My character died yesterday.
It's extra sad because it was the most work I've ever put into a background and story arc for a character and he only lasted like five sessions.
I once had a handcrafted, carefully designed and loved PC last 4 minutes, want to tell us your story Anon? We can commiserate over files of fallen character sheets.
>>49393844
No, not Black Leaf!
Bummerino.
Maybe talk about it with your GM if the character and their story is that important to you?
When you ask your child what they want to be when they grow up, they cheerfully answer "I want to be a game designer, because I want people to have fun and be happy!"
Do you encourage or crush their dream?
I'd be overjoyed, but I'd make sure they have a plan B. Going for your dream job isn't a bad thing, making it your only option is.
I'd support their ideas, getting them the experience and resources necessary to give it a go, but still making sure they got a solid education to back it up and had a few boring/realistic job ideas they could fall back on in the worst case scenario.
The world needs more game designers who care about people having fun and being happy, rather than the surfeit of game designers who just completely fucking full of themselves and want to show everyone how totally brilliant they are.
Help them design a game. Kids don't always know what they're really interestsd in, but if they say they want to do something, it's a lot easier to get them to sit down and work on a project for a few hours/days.
They might realize a talent for programming, or art, or sculpting, or any number of somewhat-related things. Or they might really want to design more games. Even if it never becomes a career, it's a great hobby to have. There's no dreams to be crushed, just temper the expectations from "I want to make Halo 6, but master chief can ride space dragons and the world is like Minecraft" into "I want to make a Mario level that my siblings can play".
