I'm making a megadungeon, and I don't know if I should go full gonzo/silly/goofy or just play it like regular old D&D. I want to homebrew classes like battle vegan and were-troll, and have vending machines and other blatant anachronisms, but I just don't know if anybody digs that sort of stuff. SHould I take the plunge, or should I stick with good ol' classic fantasy?

Goofy works for short adventures. It might be hard to sustain for a long mega-dungeon campaign, as players will feel little connection to the wackiness.

On the other hand, a totally serious mega-dungeon might get tedious after a while without a very compelling plot.

I'd alternate it.

He's true neutral. He doesn't do the right thing because it's the right thing, or because he follows any kind of code: he explicitly does it for fun. The only thing he cares about is finding a challenge, and fighting evil happens to be the best way to find challenging opponents.

I actually ran a game of this with some mates of mine when we took a break from DH.

Granted we put it in the modern times, added rules for a few different things (heat seaking missiles, afterburners, etc), and made it a bit more dark.

Was some of the most fun I've ever had. I'd love to play it again.

Hello once again /tg/! Sadly, today we play our final game in the 2016 Autumn Babby Cup.

>What the fuck is this?

A virtual divegrass tournament played between boards using Pro Evolution Soccer and streamed for anons everywhere.

>Why the fuck should I care?

Dank memes, bragging rights, and hype by the bucketload.

Check out implyingrigged.info for more information.

Today we face /biz/ in our final game of the group stages and, indeed, the Cup. Unfortunately the Dice Gods did not favour us to advance this season but there are still stakes set before us. The loser of this match will be relegated to the Qualifiers for next Spring ("affectionately" known as the Foetus Cup). This match kicks off at 21:30 UTC (4:30 pm UTC) in the second-to-last match of the day.

>implying Cup is ever on time

Long before that though, our good friends /k/ fight for their own place in the Round of 16 as they take on /w/. Kicking off at 17:30 UTC (12:30 EST)

Also, /a/ are down but not out. They can advance on a miracle win against /po/, provided /jp/ lose to /out/. That match kicking off at 19:15 UTC (2:15 pm EST).

So, the stage is set. Get hype, and WAAAAAAAAAAGH FOR DA BOYZ!

Sexual dimorphism in fantasy/sci-fi settings.

>one and the same race
>one gender is a sentient and sapient creature (humanoid or non-humanoid - no difference)
>the other is a barely sentient non-sapient creature that is often mistaken for the "pets" of the other gender by other races
>if translating the analogy to humans, one gender would be basically "humans" and the other would be basically "dogs"

Or age dimorphism -
>after passing a certain age threshold of being a sapient and sentient child of its race, it "evolves" into a non-sentient individual
>said individual occupies its place in the society - kind of like an "ant" in an anthill - unaware of higher mental faculties, but conditioned enough to perform basic societal duties

Yes or no? Somewhat justified "magical realm" accusations aside, I think it makes for an interesting bit of worldbuilding.

Do you even till?

Seriously, do you have serfs or peasant freemen in your setting, fa/tg/uys? How are adventurers treated in a world of such ridged social strata? How should I handle social class in my own setting?
33 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>50100729
Adventurers are rootless folk who ignore the natural social hierarchy.
Children might look up to them with starry eyes, but your average peasant sees them as dangerous, a nuisance, and all around troublemakers.
Until they save the village from a dragon, of course.
>>
>>50100829
Basically this.
The average peasant will be bound to his land all his life, never ever getting as far as to see the neighboring village over on the other side of the forest.
Self-proclaimed 'Heroes' who wander from place to place upset the order of things, and they are probably looking to fuck your daughter and steal your money too. Your kids will get weird ideas of 'personal freedom' and 'choice in life' if you let them alone with such hooligans, better just get them to take out that troll fast and encourage them to get moving.

I play DSA (the Dark Eye), which has a very detailed setting so I know exactly how the peasants are going to react to my character.

They are going to scorn him, avoid him, call him names and maybe even try to attack him if he gets to close to their homes. But he won't give a shit, because he is on a mission and he will do it, whatever the cost.

Few reasons this time, for one, I'm working on building a community that's interested in the next beta version of the game, which will get the gears moving on the final boxed/kickstarted edition. Hopefully I'm not coming off as too desperate. Just getting the ball rolling on community connections. My crappy FB page is collecting dust, so if I can get some more people interested, I'd have a reason to use it, rather than talk in my head all day.

2nd reason, I've overhauled the Campaign Mode gameplay mechanics. This seemed to draw a LOT of attention to the game, so I further expanded on the idea. That image will be in a couple posts.

Updated template for Campaign Games.

Basically this gets groups of players together, similar to D&D settings. The ending results of the game are recorded (Winner, what happened, etc etc), then documented on a Timeline. Each new game progresses the timeline by 100 years.

More details on this later on, working on fleshing out the rules for it.

B-but I'm a data analyst, not a murderer!

I'm thinking of starting my fantasy campaign with the players having no stats. A mystery start, with the PCs emerging as blank slates emerging from a magical event (or coccoons, or something) with a body form but no immediate knowledge, past history or items. They would choose a body form (race) and then we start playing to see what happens, exploring the somewhat surreal fantasy world with its strange contradictions and bizarre inhabitants.

They pick up skills as the PCs travel through the world (and the player expresses an interest in being capable in something) as memories returning to them. Likewise for attributes. For example, a player that starts thinking about how the plants and animals work might get a point in Druidism or Farming or Outdoors. There is a system behind all this but it would not be visible to the players until much later.

This would be a pretty freeform game focused on exploration, in imitation of some of the weird comics I used to read (Moebius's Airtight Garage, Donjon, Heavy Metal movie, etc.), where the abilities of the protagonist(s) are never clear and fluctuate quite a bit.

What do you think, is this just asking for a clusterfuck of dashed expectations or would it be fun?

Come one come all! For here comes the Story of Puss in Boots, hero of the Tales' Realms!

I know, I know, you guys don't (all) like LARP, but hey, who knows! You might like my stories. Please, give me a chance.

First, let me introduce miawself. I was Puss in Boots, a Tale as you might have guessed. My skills were cuteness (which allowed me to convince guards to let me off with a warning), dual wieilding, stun, lockpick, literacy, immunity to alcohol and most importantly, being hella rich from all the money I'd stolen all over the city while at the same time being a respected gentlecat of the court.

Which might explain I ended up being Riverstar's greatest hero, the King's right hand man, the Fairies' favorite, the Dahem's favored business partner, and the center of a good old love square, cloak and dagger flavor.

So, what do you wish to hear about first? My love affairs maybe? Or that one time I conned my way to the top of the Hero's trials? Or how I talked the gods into bestowing me a last minute superpower that saved the day?

tells us your stories in a chronological order, as that would make it easier to understand and easier to read.
>>
>>50099610
I'd go with that, but as you might guess, everything kinda kept happening at the same time, so I'll try to organize it in an order that makes sense.

First, the setting was as follows: the Realm of Riverstar (Which is my translation for "Ondétoile") was a peaceful mearchant Realm between the various Tales' worlds such as Agrabbah, the Fairies Forests, Wonderland, Dreamland, and the Badlands where evil Tales were banished. All was fine until the Tales all suddenly fell asleep, and woke up to find the city had been invaded by two sister races from another world, the Dahem and Eryos, which were nomadic shamanist demonfolks and militaristic high-elves, respectively, and basically they settled their grudges in order to go all "manifest destiny" on our asses. We surrendered, but then it came to light that the artifacts that allowed our people to travel between worlds (such as Dorothy's shoes opening the gates to Oz , for example) had been stolen, and that Fairies and Tales alike were trapped with the Dahem and Eryos, and that's where our story begins.
>>
My sources told me that the Dahem and Eryo's (offscreen) forces had gotten weaker as of late, and that first bit of intel gave me the court's ear. Just like the French after WWII, we acted as if we never lost, and strategically placed our balls on the table. The Eryos kinda wanted to smite our faces, which they could have done since us tales are mostly jacks of all trades, and the Fairies were few in number and mostly twiggy magic user, but I already had made friends with the Dahem matriarchs, which meant their weak alliance with the Eryos became a non-aggression pact, and that if the Eryo broke the truce, Dahems would help us instead. As dumb as the pointy-ears were, they could do basic math, and math say they'd lose, so we got our independance because I managed to have the Dahem believe I knew everything there was to know and would give them good prices on intel.
Which they fucking bought.

Rumor tables for each region, perhaps 12 rumors so you can roll 1d12 on it. Half are accurate, half are false. NPCs typically believe one (or sometimes two) randomly selected rumors from the table, and regardless of the rumor's accuracy will repeat it to the PCs if the NPC wants to help them.

So it goes like
>PC: Hey NPC, I do request and beseech thee, tell me of some quest or adventure upon which I might test my bravery. Especially these beastman attacks which seem to be the main storyline.
>[roll for NPC disposition -> good enough]
>[roll for rumors -> (false) elf wizard-lord plots against the empire]
>NPC: It is whispered that the beastmen are minions of an elven wizard-lord, whose loved ones died in the chaos while the empire conquered this region
>PC: Great! I will now attempt to predict the plot based on this faulty info I got from a random drunk in a bar! Time to waste all my money giving my weapon a +1 against elves!
