How do I get the motivation to start running campaigns again? I'm damn sure there are many other people asking themselves this question.

>Start DMing 3.5 in freshmen year of high school
>Would've been nice to play first instead of DMing immediately but no one in my group of friends was willing to DM
>DM for two years and quit, never got to play during that time
>Finally get to play for a few months during senior year and the following summer

>Start GMing again in sophomore year at a different college
>Run Scion, Pathfinder, Cthulhutech, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader for three years
>Options for playing in other peoples' campaigns are as follows
>GM 1 runs only Pokemon RPG, this isn't a game I'm interested in playing at all
>GM 2 is running WoD with ALL of the splats and doesn't know how to run her own campaign as a result
>GM 3 runs Pathfinder and 3.5 and allows all 3rd party material, no one has ever felt challenged in one of his campaigns, combat takes an eternity, and he once had a two hour argument with a pair of players over whether one of their characters died because he's too much of a pussy to put his foot down
>GM 4 runs Rifts and is obnoxiously loud, everything takes forever because he gets sidetracked very easily
>GM 5 is a genuinely stupid person and many, many problems arose from that

This implies you only went to DM 1, 2, 4 and 5 for one session? If this is correct, maybe you should give your DMs some more time. Maybe even give some subtle tips if they're not good.

As for running campaigns, I get more excited the more I work on it, so just push yourself to start, maybe you'll enjoy it once you get going. Sounds like you need to not give up so fast. Hang in there, anon! There's a nice group for you out there.

Never played in GM 1's game. As I said, I have absolutely no interest in playing a Pokemon tabletop RPG. Played in GM 2's game twice, GM 4's game twice, and GM 5's game once. GM 5's game was a fucking dumpster fire of a session, dude. I directly stated my problems with each campaign to the GM that ran it, aside from GMs 1 and 5. 1 because there was nothing wrong with his game, I just didn't want to play in it, and 5 because she is legitimately too stupid to ever improve. And I was generally aware of the events of these peoples' campaigns after I quit them. We all hung out in the same lounge area of the student union and the players that remained in those games told me about what was happening.

I've tried pushing myself to write, but I always just say "fuck it" because the task is too large and the payoff too small.

Let's collectively right a quick one-shot session.

What is the setting, NPC's, obstacles, etc? Don't worry about what system it is in, we'll keep it vague to focus purely on ideas rather than mechanics. Once we build a semi decent one-shot, we'll turn on our own creation and think of the most "Player Character" choices possible and see where it takes us.

TL;DR: Write a fake session, then fake play the fake session.

Abstracting competence in general with weaponry works a lot better for a game. I think one of the basics of D&D Fighters is that they should be able to use any skill relevant to one weapon across all their weapons. Weapon Specialization should be as hardcore as it was in AD&D, and it should apply to everything, as though it were specializing in 'using weapons' rather than 'using one weapon' like an absolute boss.

Significantly less, but who cares. People play the game for the game, not for the story's depth. Cardboard crack. I still remember back when the storyline wasn't even really a concern, the M:tG novels were really fucking new, and they were trying to get comic books for each arc off the ground.

Heh. Trying to figure out just WTF was going on with Mirage and Visions just from the cards was confusing as hell, but it gave us some cool as fuck flavor text, like the love song of night and day or whatever.

So I'm GMing a supers game for a few friends and all is well. Too well. Villians have been pushed back and the heroes have been getting new toys of use from their gadgeteer teammate. What I want to do is to have them in a heated battle with the more powerful villians of the city and then a threat pops up that instantly stops the fighting and has everyone team up on the new threat. Any ideas on what the threat could be? The signal? The lethality?

There are creatures of massive power and destructiveness that regularly attack cities and even more regularly kill at least 25% of all superhumans that show up. If you get hit by an endbringer and don't have a high durability power you're dead. D.E.A.D. Roll a d4 for every NPC that shows up and if that NPC rolls a 1 they die. That's literally how the author did it even risking the MC.

Other reccomendations in this thread were good but if you're still looking, there's always the whole "perfect being gone wild" thing. Maybe one of the villains or even one of the heroes tries to build an ultimate lifeform that will slay enemies or keep the world safe without the need of heroes. However, it gains its own free will and comes to the logical conclusion that if there are no heroes or villains left alive, the world wouldn't constantly have to deal with the fallout of their schemes and battles.

Notable media that does this or something similar: Age of Ultron, JoJo part 2, 2001 A Space Odyssey, The Day the Earth Stood Still (the newer one is shit). In fact you may wanna ask /co/ for some more examples, there's a few that are eluding me at the moment which I'm sure could help you with your writing.

Yeah, I enjoyed it. It's a bit more simplistic than say, Imperial Assault, but it makes it easier to get new people into the game, individual games go a bit faster, and it's quicker to run a campaign since they're made up of only 3 missions each and you don't need to worry about improving characters.

I'd still recommend Imperial Assault for those who want a more interesting and replayable experience (or Descent 2e if you absolutely can't stand Star Wars), but TMNT is still a solid enough game.

I'm setting up this NPC, a wizard, who was studying under the tutelage of a necromancer. He eventually picked up skill to be able to have a dozen armed zombies as guards and with this entourage, he is travelling the badlands, inspecting the caves and tombs and compounding the strenghts of his undead minions with his own arcane powers when necesarry. He loots interesting stuff and has it sold/exchanged for other magic items by his borderland contacts.

I'd like to hear your opinion on how does the wizard use his zombies? Other adventurers may not be exactly a common sight in wast badlands, but orcs, goblins, ogres and occasional dragon are.

What would be wizard's standard operating procedure when setting up camp near a site to explore?

If anyone needs to know, its dnd 5e and I'm using Mage (CR6) as base for my NPC. "A dozen armored zombies a day" is a special power I have given him as a DM.

The obvious is pack mules and cannon fodder. 12 undead would be able to carry quite a lot while experiencing no ill side effects such as exhaustion. If he was an especially luxurious sort he could even be carried by them himself. When he sets up camp it would be only logical to have them form a perimeter around it as guards. Because its a badland, they could even be dispersed on the ground as if theyre actual dead bodies to ambush any potential ambushers.

As for in a fight, how he treats them depends heavily on how he views them. If theyre just constructs or tools to him then hes likely to use them as meat shields and trap testers. If he sees them as more than just a tool then Id imagine that he would be more careful and respectful towards them, less zerg rush and more tactics. But, would make sense to always have him be in the middle of them whether theyre in a tight or loose formation.

He knows most common low-level spells.
He was a Red wizard of Thai untill Shazz Tam took over. He had moved north to Sword coast to improve his knowledge of ancient items, especially those of lost empire of Netheril.
He is basically a scolar who must fend off pesky things that want to prevent him from looting places with possible magic items.

Are there any other good werewolf RPGs besides the World of Darkness ones? I'm curious, because while I like World of Darkness's system okay the fluff gives me a fucking headache and the crunch seems to be a bit stuck to the fluff.

I assume based on this thread, you've tried /both/ the World of Darkness werewolf games? The new and old? If you've only played apocalypse, I'd recommend looking into Forsaken. It's far less trash.
