>What is Exalted?
An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here: http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

>That sounds cool, how can I get into it?
Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: http://jyenicolson.net/exalted/. It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

>Gosh that was fun. How do I find a group?
Roll20 and the Game Finder General here on /tg/. With the new edition, though, chances are more games will crop up.

It should be a requirement to have the name of the character, the work they're in and a link to either the source material or a relevant wiki page to make these threads.

I wouldn't know where to begin. "Her" powers are not really consistent with any D&D class. She mostly appears to be a physical fighter (in as far as that's possible in a WW1 scenario) with some cool magic tricks up her sleeve.

Her intelligence also appears to be nothing extraordinary (just above average I'd wager), she just benefits from having hindsight of the situation and having an adult's mind since the moment she was born.

If we're using 3.5e, I guess duskblade would be the most appropriate. Given the average motherfucker is level 2 at best (see: the entire justification for E6 existing) I'd say Tanya is no higher than level 8, 10 if you're pushing it.

What is it about Dragons that gives them such a presence in the fantasy genre?

Why have Dragons become integral to most fantasy, above all other magical creatures?

Dragons are power incarnate. There's almost no better way to represent the strongest, most dangerous force in the setting than a dragon.
>>
They're more simply antagonistic, I think.

Appearance, behavior, representation, pretty much everything about them is hostile and monstrous. They have really no redeeming qualities.

Compare with many other fantasy creatures, at least from actual legends and folklore, and fantasy creatures tend to have distinct behaviors or foibles, mannerisms which may not necessarily be entirely bad, and can be tricked or exploited by a clever or pure human, and can change depending on the circumstances from good to bad.

Dragons though, it's like 100% of the time, they're very simply evil in an uncomplicated way, it's quite simply just "Destroy, kill, burn.", none of that "Well if it's a pure maiden then the creature is compelled to show its belly and weep gold tears in servitude." Or "If a weary traveler should hop and spin three times with a silver coin in hand, then the creature must shed it's skin and flee."

I guess when you really get down to it, a dragon is just an animal with animalistic tendencies, though by the powers of fantasy, it is the animal which is the most empowered and so the most dangerous.
>>
>>51442541
they are a creature that has been in mythology since greco-roman times, and have had their legend passed down through the middle ages told and re-told countless times

we have St Georges dragon English mythology in general loves dragons, as well as the incredibly important chinese dragons, and were a commonly used to symbolize evil in christian stories

a large reptillian fire breathing monster is very easy way to show "EVIL" in shorthand, and common use in this manner has cemented it in almost every culture

big, imposing, and guarding treasures, they are the archetypal obstacle for our hero to overcome and recieve a reward

fantasy draws heavily from mythology, so it makes sense to have dragons there, and their depiction as top dogs of evil, as well as their incredible stature in legends, mean that it would be quite off to not have dragons be the top of the food chain

Cog and Krieg: http://pastebin.com/Mt1cGGvw

The feedline issued a few more weak spurts into Miria's lap. Nearby, some of the bird analogues that had flown away as the wurm approached could be heard returning to the nearby trees, tittering and cawing.

From the other side of the corpse, a saw could be faintly heard, buzzing away.

"...Oh. My. God Emperor." Miria said. "You're s-serious."

Beta and Alpha looked at each other for a moment, the signature Krieg gesture of incomprehension. "Our training was focused-"

"No. Sh-shut up." Miria snapped, looking around within arm's reach. She spotted a small vascular plant, with a simple blue blossom atop a narrow stem. She yanked it from the earth and held it under Alpha's rebreather.

"What. Is. This?" She demanded.

"...A plant." He stated flatly.

"What is its n-name?" Miria shook it at him.

"Frau Enginseer, this world is uncharted. This plant has no name." Said Beta.

+Technically correct. The most frustrating kind.+

"If you s-saw this on K-Krieg what would you call it?" She asked.

"We would not."

"Not what? Name it? Are you telling me that s-since people on Krieg don't get names t-the plants don't either? Has anyone ever told you y-your people are INSANE?" Miria's eyes darted between both of them, still futily looking for some sign that maybe this was all some horrid attempt at jest. She had, after all, yet to see what passed for humor on Krieg.

"See it." Alpha clarified. "There are no plants on Krieg."

+...What? How...+

"N-none?" Her eyes widened.

"Not since-" Alpha seemed to hesitate for a moment. "-not for many generations."
>>
>>51423619

Miria began to feel that sensation again. The one she had felt when they had all first met. Something dark. Deep, deep beyond her ability to see was clawing at the back of her mind. Wrong. Wrong. Everything about them was wrong. A race of people with no names, from a world with no biosphere. Why had she never seen any of the crew's faces? Why did she so badly want to forget the one face she had seen?

"...I'm s-sorry." She said, looking away from their glass eyes. "T-this is a flower. Specifically a-any plant with a fruiting body or b-bud like this on the top, nearly a-always colorful." She pinched off the petals and placed them in the commander's hand. "I n-need samples from them."

Alpha placed the petals in his breast pocket and rose from his crouch. "Understood."

After a few moments more of uncomfortable staring, and Beta turned as well, walking off to find Gamma.

Miria shivered, though the rain was not at all cold.

Sure enough, draping the camo tarp over the rib bones had created a makeshift trough beneath the guns that quickly filled with rainwater. Miria tried not to think about how much the jutting rib bones resembled tusks.

The twin Stormhammer's burned for a full three seconds, right up until the barrels began to steam as the rain vaporized on impact with their housing. Delta lowered the angle of the guns until they dipped into the makeshift pool beneath them, enveloping the turret in a cloud of haze. Mounds of flesh sloughed off the carcass, revealing massive ropey tubules that served some function Miria couldn't guess at. Fortunately, almost all organisms had only one digestive tract, multiple stomachs occasionally, but still connected to just the one long big tube.

"S-see? Just don't drive so f-fast all the water falls out."

"It is functional." Said Delta over the vox.

+Probably the highest praise I'm going to get.+
>>
>>51423641

Three more shots like that and they had found it. The creature's powerful digestive acids had already gone to work, to be expected from an animal that swallowed its prey whole with little to no chewing. That pushed this organism into the category of sedentary ambush predator. Long periods of inactivity followed by a kill, then a lengthy digestion that made full use of all the materials it had consumed.

The pod's hull was tarnished from the beginnings of acidic scoring, and the hard edges and exposed rivets had already begun to smooth out. The Imperial Aquila's gold plating had eroded almost entirely, exposing its inner brass surface. Somewhat shoddy workmanship, to be expected perhaps of a civilian free trader. It was quite possible this creature might have fully digested the pod, given enough time. As it stood, Miria used her servo arm to drag the pod free of the stinking mass of flesh where it could get rained on a bit and let the acid and gore wash off.

Experimentally, Miria banged on the hull twice with her mechadendrite, and received a faint double bang in return.

"T-the occupant is alive! And conscious!"

She and Gael tried the automatic hatch release, it was disappointingly unresponsive. The pod was rated for hard vacuum and even minor explosions and micrometeoroid impact, but it was designed to be opened easily by rescue crews. The backup mechanical release involved pulling a latch that triggered a series of explosive bolts, no electronics required, to blow the door off after a short delay. Miria grabbed the lever and gave it a yank, falling over even though she had been waiting for it as the hatch flew off and slid down the creature's ruined side. Alpha and Beta had their rifles at the low ready, presumably in case the person inside tried to attack them.

Just have a question. I run 4 Goblin Guides over 4 Stormchaser Mages in UR Delver. Is this a mistake? Goblin Guide seems to be the better card, hes less mana and he usually hits in for more just by the math, he lowers your curve even more then it already is so your Dazes are even better.

The math
Turn 1 Goblin Guide attack 2
Turn 2 untap attack 2
Turn 3 untap attack removed

Total 4 damage

Turn 1
Turn 2 Stormchaser free spell attack 2
Turn 3 untap free spell attack removed

Total 2

So for the same situation Goblin Guide gets in 2 more damage. A turn 2 removal spell makes him even better as he gets in for 2 but the mage doesnt get in at all. The only turn mage starts hitting in for more is turn 4 if he hasnt been removed. Also Mage requires you to sometimes spam free spells to get the most out of him which is sometimes a suboptimal line of play, Goblin Guide is always 2/2 so he can swing, reveal a card, you see a threat or combo piece on top and decide to hold up mana for counters or responses.
To me the math seems to favor Goblin Guide. Does anyone want to tell me why im wrong?

The enemies roll their two encounters first, which can be painful if it's a fairly hard encounter.

>inb4 Repost
Thread died before anything of use could be said, sorry.

Hello there folks, it's HVM-anon again. I've been play testing the latest batch and it's been fairly positive as of right now.

My questions are fairly simple.
Combat is yet again making me question myself. As fellow players, designers, and chucklefucks who lurk these threads do you like . .
>Fast, but lethal combat (One round can fuck you up to the point where you're out of the fight)
>Midway
>Slow, bit safer combat (Likelihood of you going down first round is minimal at best except on Brutal+ Difficulty)

I also added a new system called Virtues, Vices, Values, and Vilification. Which is similar from the Burning Wheel system, but simplified heavily.

Just wondering if that system is functional, or some necessary tweaks are needed.

I'll answer questions as I see them. Thanks folks

>To the anon who suggested re-formatting my book-thing
Polled my players, they like the way it is now. May change later. Book-pamphlet-thing is work in progress.
>>
I'm gonna be running my first homebrew soon, and wanted to get some /tg/ opinions before unleashing it on my players. Mostly inspired by the fairly loose but very graphic and gritty style of Einsteinian Roulette, it'll be a very simple system. I'll only be using d6 and occasional d3. 0 is the average score for any given stat for the average person, and positive or negative scores add direct bonuses or maluses to dice rolls. Stats are as follows:

Strength
Dexterity
Agility
Charisma
Willpower
Intelligence
Wisdom
Perception

Stats represent how finely in control of your various faculties you are, rather than your actual physical prowess: for example, a superstrong, roided up, musclebound rhino of a man could easily have a -3 on strength, meaning that he tends to do stuff like crushing people's hands in a simple handshake, or putting his fist through the door when he intended to knock - no penalty to his actual strength, just less ability to use his strength to get the exact outcome that he wants. So too with all the other stats, particularly charisma and agility. Constitution is not present because it is a purely physical attribute, requiring no control other than willpower.

Combat will be brutal, attrition high. Rolling a crit (6 or above) results in rolling another, unmodified dice to determine exactly how in line with your goals the crit is, making 5s a generally desirable roll. No real hitpoints system, just increasing levels of recorded bodily damage (4 hits limbs, 5 hits center mass, 6 hits head) and maluses handed out accordingly. Rolls will be first to hit (modified by cover and such), then defender dodges, then parries, then if failed, damage is rolled. So anyone with a gun can very possibly kill you.

What would /tg/ prefer in a high-power high-fantasy setting? Doing a touch of worldbuilding, and I can't decide which version I like more.

>Spirits exist in our world, but are invisible and intangible unless they choose to be seen/felt. As such, anyone can "talk" to spirits, but dedicated spirit-talkers have the ability to see/sense them and the know-how to communicate and negotiate *effectively*.

>Spirits live in their own realm that is connected to ours in a few places (enchanted glades, haunted houses, etc.); when visiting our realm, they by default have a physical and visible form. Spirit-talkers have the ability to reach across realms and call spirits to our world to "let them in;" they also, hopefully, can negotiate/control spirits once they're here and banish unruly spirits back to their home realm.

I prefer the first, with a dash of how it's suggested to work in Shadowrun:

>Only the most powerful spirits are sentient beings in the wild. When a human magically summons a spirit, the spirit gains intelligence and the ability to communicate in reflection of its summoner's intelligence.

So, the mountain always HAS a spirit. The mountain-spirit might be angry, or might be peaceful. But it only talks and thinks when a spirit-talker calls it forth.

Some sages think this is the case. Others think spirits are always intelligent. The truth is probably somewhere in between.
>>
>>51490729

It depends what you're going for. So you want spirits to be manifestations of aspects of the world, or do you want them to be a separate culture with only tangential similarities?

Personally, I like spirits to be nature spirits, and thus a part of our world. But if you would rather create a complex society parallel to human society the second option would be more fitting. I don't think the flavor would be indicative of quality, it deoends on what type of story you want to tell with them.

tl;dr nature spirits are better suited for option 1, highly intelligent, exotic societal spirits are better suited for option 2
>>
>>51490799
So spirits are always there, but in almost every case they need to be woken up? That could be interesting.

>>51490980
I guess I'm still deciding on that too. Right now I'm having "spirit" act as a catch-all term for supernatural monsters, humanoid entities, and "spirits of [ X ]." Fae, elementals, demons, general wandering spirits both bestial and high-minded, and anthropomorphic personifications all count as spirits now, but I may cut the list down later.

1200 points of Death Guard, Chaos Warband + Spawn. Any thoughts? I suck at 40k, so I expect it to be bad

Am I the only one who thinks the emphasis in speech bubbles in comic books is usually very weirdly placed? I can understand the emphasis on "200 quintillion tons", "tripled", "still" and "good", but...
>You've manifested ONE new super-power and OTHERS may appear
those are some weird words to emphasize.

Seem like pretty weak arguments to me.

Thematically they don't fit with everyone's image of fantasy.

Like book of Weeaboo fitan magic they have a unrealistic reputation for being obscenely broken and ruining everything so people dismiss them without even reading the source book
>you gotta let me run a psionic gm! They have brain powers and can make enemies brains explode with their toughts! They can mind control ANYONE, even other PCs!
Does not sell many people on allowing them to be used

>party are a bunch of mercs assigned to destabilise a third world dictatorship run by a brutal monarch who has suddenly gotten more extreme
>help train and eventually lead the underground resistance into transforming themselves into a formidable rebellion
>plot twist is that the resistance leader who hired the mercs is actually the real former despotic monarch who was ususrped in a secret bloody coup by his psychotic body double
>now wants to recapture the throne under the guise of a selfless freedom fighter and rule once again with absolute power manipulating the mercs the entire time
>will attempt to kill them for discovering his secret and to consolidate power

Is this a shitty plot twist? Pretty sure my players don't suspect a thing even though I've sprinkled hints (like the dossier claiming the monarch is left handed but during the body double's televised military parade he grasps things with his right including signing a document) but was wondering if I should really go through with the double cross or not. If it sucks then l think it could potentially ruin an otherwise fun campaign

We're getting toward the end and I think they're about to confront the body double who they still believe is the real monarch next session

Uh, I'm not sure I understand the monarch's logic of making the population hate HIM (his double, but you see what I mean) so he can take power.
Clearly he should be asking the mercs or any other elite group to physically remove his body double so he can just step in his own shoes.

I mean, he could get plastic surgery and then stage the rebellion to overthrow his double but that sounds a lot harder.

He's in disguise as a resistance leader, he wants to depose his body double and then lead as the resistance leader

But don't you think the fact that he looks EXACTLY like the guy he just deposed would raise some questions? Especially since his face is probably plastered and broadcasted everywhere?

What's a good mecha game system? I was suggested Mekton Zeta, but it's way too crunchy for my GM.

Battle Century G.

I also had success running a mech game in Strike!.
>>
I wish I knew. Every mecha system I've ever played has either been overly clunky and mechanically overbearing or too light and utterly unsatisfying.
