Literally who?
It should be a requirement to have the name of the character, the work they're in and a link to either the source material or a relevant wiki page to make these threads.
>>
>>51448551
I wouldn't know where to begin. "Her" powers are not really consistent with any D&D class. She mostly appears to be a physical fighter (in as far as that's possible in a WW1 scenario) with some cool magic tricks up her sleeve.

Her intelligence also appears to be nothing extraordinary (just above average I'd wager), she just benefits from having hindsight of the situation and having an adult's mind since the moment she was born.

If we're using 3.5e, I guess duskblade would be the most appropriate. Given the average motherfucker is level 2 at best (see: the entire justification for E6 existing) I'd say Tanya is no higher than level 8, 10 if you're pushing it.
>>
>>51448637
I don't neccessarily disagree with you, but Yojou Senki is the most popular anime of the season. You do watch anime, right?

He's asking why the anon doesn't know about the show given that it's highly popular. He said nothing about the quality.
>>
>>51448668

While I find the manga mildly entertaining and I don't like reading light novels, I can't fucking stand the anime trailer. It just reminds me why I quit anime in favor of manga.

I also don't like how this series smacks of a combination of /k/aboo with little girl otaku shit. And they explain the stupidest shit like "relic" and "Murphy's Law". Nigger, I already knew this basic ass shit, did you dumb fat otakus not?

It really reeks of big titted cat ear faggots trying to be sophisticated and mature, or basically something that could've been decent seinen but was ruined by little girls and magic.

Why are game developers trying to make me question my sexuality? Couldn't they just make her a girl so I can find her sexy without questioning whether this makes me gay?

Not the "anime was a mistake" meme, but him being upset that otaku shut-ins were in control of the industry and used their incredibly flawed views on life to come up with the same, self serving masturbatory fantasies.

At least when everyone was aping Dragon Ball, the idea was to make a fighting series where the MC had to pus themselves to the limit to face their foes. Now everything is the same "Well, thanks to my flawless planning, I'm already 30 steps ahead of you, fool!"

He was always edgy. In life, he was a higher-ranking HR person in his company, and he was in charge of firing people. He's either autistic or socially retarded, though, so he never cared about the people and just assumed they'd be happy the company would be better off without them, or something like that.

He got into the reincarnated-in-a-magical-realm thing because he mouthed off to God after death, going on about how God couldn't be real. Dude couldn't read the mood at all, and got divine punishment for it. Same reason he keeps getting sent back to the front lines, because he just doesn't get people.

God, I hope it ends with him getting turned into dogfood by a Lewis gun. Like, this series seems like it was written by some edgy salaryman who got fired because Japanese business management doesn't work the same way it did before the Bubble and you can't just treat people like shit, so he wrote a story where he could go back in time and treat people the way he wants to, but made the MC a loli so it could sell well.

>>
>>51448551

Advantages:

Appearance 1 - Attractive
Blessed - Heroic Feats (Only while Type 95 Orb activated)
Charisma 2
Cultural Adaptability
Combat Reflexes
Eidetic Memory
Fearlesness 3
Very Fit
High Pain Treshold
Honest Face
Indomitable
Language Talent
Magery 4 or 5 (Knows at least the full list of military grade spells)
Patrons (Military)
Pitiable
Reputation (Mage Ace, Empire)
Social Chameleon
Status (Mage Captain, Empire)
Unusual Background (Japanese salaryman)

Disadvantages:

Strength -2

Callous
Destiny - Great Disadvantage (Being fucked up through life by Being X)
Duty (Military, Empire)
Dwarfism
Impulsiveness (When an action can lead to PROMOTIONS!)
Intolerance (Gods, religion)
Obsession (Rear duty, PROMOTIONS!, Fucking up the life of Being X)
Overconfidence
Reputation (Devil of the Rhine, Empire enemies)
Selfish

Plus a lot of points in different skills. Total character cost is probably around 400-450 points same as with special forces operatives.

This is FATE, right?
>>
>>51453273
.hack// wasn't really self-insert shit. Or at least, not the original series. The original was about how shitty it would be to be stuck in an MMO, but, at the end of the day, the stakes weren't really that high (let's find the game's most powerful item so I can figure out how to log-out and make meaningful relationships online back when that was an unheard-of concept).

SAO starts with making the .hack// concept actually engaging (everyone logged on to this game can't log out until you beat the game; death in-game will actually cause braindeath IRL) but then turned into the MC being able to do anything because he's so good at video games. He actually beats the villain of the second arc IRL with video game moves.

I don't know FATE good enough to make such a list fast. Though it is probably not that hard but I'll need to find the book first.

In GURPS Tanya will get a lot of advantages in social interactions with people who she treats well and can easily talk to anyone of any status. On the other hand people who have seen her true nature will fear and hate her (small intimidate bonus against them). She also can't pass up opportunities to get higher rank or butter up her superiors.

There's also the fact that the only thing the show HAD going for it, it's atmosphere, the sense of dread stemming from the fact that anyone can die, completely disappeared like 10 episodes in with appearance of the stupid AI.

But I did run a D&D game based on the same premise. Players were actually fully aware of the virtual nature of the world they found themselves in and by the end of the first session they couldn't logg out.

I actually like doing that, watching a really fucking bad anime and then going "hang on, I can do this premise WELL". Because say what you will, anime may be shitty in the last couple fo years, but they just keep coming up with the most amazing of premises.

I mean... A 40y old salaryman gets transported into WWI in a body of a loli. Come on. I wouldn't be able to come up with this shit if I tool all the drugs I've taken in my life at once and I'd probably die.

>>
>>51454018
>I wouldn't be able to come up with this shit if I tool all the drugs I've taken in my life at once and I'd probably die.

No. Don't say shit like this, because it makes the actual creative process seem more magical than it actually is.

You know where the plot of Yojou Senki came from? You know those really edgy angsty poems teenagers write when they're really mad at something; where they give themselves the power to do anything they want?

Make that teenager a broke salaryman who likes WWI who's mad at being fired and have him understand he can make money off his angsty poetry by making his self insert a little girl because that's what sell nowadays.
>>
>>51453119
>"oh no, the current situation turned in a way where my master-plan of becoming a pencil-pusher is endangered, let me go all out".
As a seasoned office drone, I can relate with that one. I'm firm believer in dealing with problems simply by making them not your problems. But once I actually need to address something, I won't half-ass it.
Unless you mean the violent kind of "going all out", that's not my thing. Though the last batch of a newcomers made me consider even that. I swear the people are getting dumber each year.
>>
>>51454052
But I'm sure you don't fantasize about being a magical little girl in WWI who puts the newcomers you don't like in the middle of a mustard gas attack.

Like a normal person, you just hope they get in a car accident if you really really hate them.
>>
>>51454047
It's a good anime. I can't outdo a good anime. I mean I CAN, but where's the fun in that? I'd rather try to redo a really bad one.

In a novel lack of oxygen is actually the main reason why mages don't go over 6k. Until new versions of magical orbs are produced that allow them to maintain more spells.

Honestly, I feel that the quality of Youjo Senki went down with each adaptation. The LN was full of interesting details of life in war where mages are elite units and fighting against getting brainwashed by a mighty being that is forcing things to make a point. However, this causes some tl,dr

The mange lost a lot of the interesting detail and explanations due to the mainly visual medium not being able to dumb extra information well. However, it's striking visually, even if some of the people looked deformed and ugly as sin, and communicates the core story well through its visuals.

The anime is just kinda bad. The action scene give a weird sense of where people are and makes mid-air maneuvers look strange and clunky. The visual switch from kinda decent to just shit, the art style, odd perspectives and strange camera angles making hideous monsters out of people, and focusing on the weakest part of the story, Tanya herself, without looking at her thought process, the thought process of the higher ups of several countries that react to her, and the world building as a whole is pretty down graded.

You dont know half of it. For a few years FANTASY-Settings in Japan have been struggling due to too much focus on mainsteam audiences and silly MCs with 5 million belts. Fantasy was considered to be a dead genre.
What brought them back was sadly all the ISEKAI-Shit which on the other hand is currently absolutely oversaturated, despite having a clever setting/idea from time to time.

The problem of the anime/manga industry going were they think the money is, isn't limited to Otakupandering only.

The entire industry right now IS otakupandering though. Isekai is itself a form of otaku pandering. Just look at the Big Momma of modern Isekai: Sword Art Online. It's about an edgy loner nerd who constantly plays MMO's and is basically Jesus' second coming because of it.

The anime market panders to otaku because it takes a lot to produce and only makes money in two ways: either by boosting sales for the manga (which results in a lot of by-the-books copies of copies of copies) or by selling merchandise and BDs (which you sell by making appealing waifubait). The manga market is different and more varied because it's much, much easier to get returns on the made costs because making and publishing a manga is (relatively) cheap and will result in a net profit even if you only appeal to a very niche market.

I remember someone speculating the reason why mecha anime is dead now is because Super Robo dealt with being hot-blooded and raising to the occasion and Real Robo was about the hard realities of life and having the balls to make sacrifices for the greater good.

Neither of those things appeal to hikkikomori and otaku who just want to hide from society, yet want to be better than everyone on the merits of their obsessions. Even the new Gundam series is apparently about "if you make it back, you'll have a harem of girls to fuck".
>>
>>51461208
So you're saying Evangelion was the ultimate otakubait series?
>>
>>51461265
No; Eva was a regular mecha series up until the episode Shinji melts and has an existential crisis. Even in the end, Shinji understands that its the differences between people that make the world work, even if it means being hurt by other people from time to time. Hell, in the Rebuild and manga versions of Eva, Shinji's not even a bitch; he actively takes stands against what's going on around him.

You obviously know that the eras in which the two shows were made had different visualizations of the internet yet you show your clear bias. In .hack//SIGN at least the conflict was that Tsukasa didn't WANT to escape. It was playing on a very different psychological field than the survivalism of SAO. Iunno, I'm not insulting you I hope, it just seems like you could've seen that it was very much a different kind of show.

>Super Robo dealt with being hot-blooded and raising to the occasion

To be honest I've seen some of such series and they really don't seem any different from the supposed otaku stuff. One wants to jerk off about masculinity and the other wants to figuratively and literally jerk off to escapism and cute girls.

>>51461790

If he does actually express hatred for them that is both kind of sad and seemingly hypocritical. He should know that those who indulge in escapism do so because they usually have shitty lives and that to escape them can be a struggle. To me it would seem more productive to understand that some people are going to fail and to offer a hand to help them, not get pissed off and go on about how you were able to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and so they should do so as well with no difficulty.

>>51461810

Some of his stuff apparently used to be very popular among lolicons, which funnily enough leads to speculation that he himself may be one considering how off his works focus young girls as the protagonist. Considering he is an otaku of sorts with regards to aircraft, it wouldn't be the first time he was throwing stones while living in a glass house.
>>
>>51461810
I did a small count of things a while back based on pixiv fan-art. Basically, if something was largely clean with no sexual overtones, the amount of R34 was (per capita) extremely low. If it had fanservice or overtones, it had a significantly high amount of porn. Sexually explicit works also had very low amounts of pornographic fan art.

I'm also certain that well-written characters have far lower amounts of pornographic art than "Tits enter the room followed by Generika Nakamura and her ass" but I lacked the drive to check that out.
>>

>Neither of those things appeal to hikkikomori and otaku who just want to hide from society, yet want to be better than everyone on the merits of their obsessions

The reason mecha shows in general fail are over-saturation and under-innovation. Why watch RahXephon when you can re-watch NGE. The most successful mecha shows of the 2000s were probably Code Geass, Guren Lagann, and Eureka Seven, aka the shows that did something different.

>Even the new Gundam series is apparently about "if you make it back, you'll have a harem of girls to fuck".

Hardly, he has two girls that are interested in him and aside from the fact he has two of them they are bog standard Gundam waifus. Main character, being a no nonsense person who is probably on the spectrum isn't aware that either of them are interested in him in non-platonic ways.

Full disclosure: Currently the waifus are planning on raping main character and having his child preferably before he finishes his current story arc of self-destruction though. Which is semi-understandable in context since half of his body is paralyzed whenever he isn't hooked up to his giant robot's man-machine interface and his paralysis gets worse whenever he needs to get FULL POWER

Agreed, though compared to the manga version the anime adaptation made her seem to have much worse personality. Nothing she says infront of the others is what she truly means and she does not show any genuine emotion infront of anyone. Ciaphas atleast cares a little bit about some people around him and actually cares a lot about the imperium.

Konosuba is an example of this done correctly. Useless NEET dies and ends up being still a mostly useless NEET who nevertheless is reatively intelligent and learns new skills to quickly make himself useful since if he doesn't he's dead. There is that strawberry something other thing manga that was basically the trap MC heavily flirting and petting with every member of his harem.

You actually do. It is harder to become a master with such psychopathic tendencies but most normal people will have problems dealing with you.

People without brakes in the brain are incredibly scary and you need a lot of experience to be able to deal with them effectively because they make moves that most normal people won't even consider doing.

Most special forces though probably won't take such a guy.

Well, sort of, but not in the way you're thinking. It doesn't make you move any faster, or make it harder for people to react to you, or any imaginary bullshit like that. It just makes one better at *killing* by virtue of not hesitating in life-or-death situations. But anybody with basic martial training will know enough to vary their actions and avoid predictability, so it doesn't do anything as far as actual combat technique.

I don't get why this is the anime of the season, the animation is shit and cheap and they cop out of having an interesting setting by adding magic and making it not-WWI. A story about a little girl psycho officer in the first world war would be way more interesting, using new technologies, encouraging use of mustard gas and other tools of war, being a psycho who looks pretty, I could see that. But Japan can't just be faggots, they have to be turbo faggots who turn war into flying magical girls with magical blue-and-red-colored magic bullets.

And what the fuck is up with her being a 30-year-old businessman being reincarnated? That's complete trash, it's something people make fun of in fan fiction.

It is actually not that bad. Anime tends to skip some parts so it is better to read LN > read manga than watch anime to have the best understanding.
Though at this rate anime is going to out pace the rest in 1-2 episodes.
Seriously even if you are not going to read the ln atleast read the manga.

>>51477979

Actually as explained he is quiet a believable character with his flaws. He is a less patriotic and less successfull version of ciaphas cain. Which is also acceptable. The work environment he was in did not exactly prepare him for how things will work in military. He made mistakes but especially during the war college arc he learned how to act around people.
The most unbelievable part is that MC knows Being X monitors him and expects him to revere him always. By denying him it is certain that only bad things will continue to happen, it is afterall X's world (and maybe a few other gods) . He can never defeat X or get the cozy life. It should be apperent by the fact that when things dont go the way they want gods just break the rules and intervene with the free will. It is a lose lose situation really.
>>

Except that without people being literal wizards there is absolutely no justification for the military to go around conscripting 9 year old girls and putting them through officer school. Even grown women in WW1 would be a huge stretch.
>>
Is there a translation of the LN that isn't dildos? The one I found on googling "Youjou Senki" is so rife with bad grammar that it makes my eyes bleed.
>>
>>51481069
>It should be apperent
Self-delusion, stubbornness and overconfidence. Also hate. I don't think he will admit defeat even while someone will be adjusting a noose around his neck. Maybe later something will change.

If we go with some of the Greek stories heroes never win against gods. At best they achieve Phyrric victory and die. So the best possible outcome Tanya can hope for is something like making Being X loose his marbles and die laughing at him. Though it will be probably long and painful death.

It asspains me we could go beyond moeshit and elevate

Instead, we either get stupid nationalistic wish fufillment shit about the most generic fantasy wankeries (ZnT, GATE, Mahouka), stupid harem shit, stupid moe shit, stupid grimderp shit from Urobotchi and Stripe Pattern and Hirano, stupid tryhard shit (Hirano, Hiroe, Jormungand, Ajin, etc)

meanwhile the shit that tries to be experimental gets quickly forgotten and anyone who tries bringing it to western fans gets shit on because anime is a curse word in the west and rightfully so because of pedophillia and shitty fanservice

I will never get why he has a woman's Name.
>>
>>51487810
>meanwhile the shit that tries to be experimental gets quickly forgotten
That's because it's experimental: that's where you get the shit that's either brilliant or full retard. Being experimental is never a guarantee for success because otherwise it wouldn't be experimental.

This is why you see less experimentation in times of financial crisis: then a box office failure could be even more costly. Same with American movies: there was a global financial crisis in 2008, the world economy is still reeling from it so what do we see in American cinema's? Remakes and adaptation of already popular things from other media (books, comics and even anime with the upcoming Death Note and Ghost in the Shell movies). Movies that do not rely on content but on brand recognition, because they're guaranteed to sell. Just look at the Michael Bay Transformers movies: everyone loves to rag on them, but they keep coming out because they shit gold.

Same with anime. The beta protagonist who never grows besides maybe "I fight for my friends" who gets a harem of already popular archetypes (tsundere, yandere, yamato nadeshiko, the foreign girl from America or a West European country) thrown in his lap remains popular because it sells no matter how often you do it. You could probably write two series back-to-fucking-back and both of them would sell. Hell, Reiki Kawahara is kind of doing this with SAO and Accel World (though I'll admit I actually like the latter).
>>
>>51486270
>if it had self awareness
I honestly find the fact that it isn't the most appealing part about it.
>>
>>51488146
Issue is that even "experimental" can mean shit that isn't moebait, grimderp, edgy tryhard 90s-style gore-n-guts, slice-of-life-but-wunza-dragon, monster-girls, etc.

Fuck, I consider shit that breaks out of the long-winded and autistic monologues and exposition that otaku love experimental, or shit that doesn't have awful fanservice.

I know half of this is due to how conservative the Japanese (and especially otaku) mindset is along with how their humor works, where endless panty shots are "comedy".

It got bad by being a very generic anime that was forgotten very quickly. It basicly chose to squash its potential and delivered a very standart story with a very predictable outcome.

It is like watching a horror movie and expecting a monster in the end but no monster is shown and it ends abruptly like that.
Side characters were not worked upon, MC's personality was non-existant with her only quirk being a loyal lap dog to the deuteragonist. Everything felt rushed with episodes amde jsut to end it in 12 episodes.
There are these two characters which can be interesting to explore? Too bad lets give them a short scene than kill one to make viewers feel something. etc. etc.
In the end it failed by trying to tell a big story in a short amount of time with bland MC's. One of the main villians(Intelligence officer guy) was more interesting than the whole cast to put it in perspective.
It was one of the rare animes which could have benefitted from more episodes.

Then hopefully moeblobs and Isekai will be dead at the end of the 2020s.

Mecha died more because it was what made up 80% of anime during the 80s and the first half of the 90s. It was less under-innovation and more over-saturation. They had just simply run out of ideas (hell, people have made the argument that Gurren Laggan is literally just Getter Robo set in Mad Max) and no one could top the pinnacles of their genres.

To play the devil's advocate, this alternate history might be one where the Kulturkampf succeeded and the slavs in German territory were assimilated. Despite having a Slavic last name, she'd be seen as a German. Much like how France has a lot of Frenchmen with last names like Müller in a certain part of the country that triggers /pol/tards who will sock you in the face if you call them German.

There's the novel Sevens. The MC spends a while trying to avoid dealing with the fact that he's built up a harem because he already had a girl he loved, but after deciding to build his own Empire, he starts actively seducing women of great power (political, monetary, physical or magical) to create connections with other countries and recruit capable personnel for his group. This in turn leads to the haremettes forming their own factions based on who they are willing to support as the legal wife and thus Empress (since only a few of them have the status to become one). It comes to a point where even other countries try to muscle in on the harem, wanting the MC to take on concubines from them to make sure they have blood flowing in the future royal family.
