fire fucking watch

firewatch is the only one i'd approve, the joy of loneliness and aesthetics you feel when you play that game beside your car alone in some off terrain rocky place at night when it's a clear sky with no light pollution, not a single sign of human, couple of animals that sneak up to the fire for warmth and instead of having them steal your food you give them some. Then resume the game where you left off, either walking to a lake or exploring the tower at night.

fuck i wish all this heavenly experiences (not vidya only) upon all of you

Agree with Firewatch.

But also, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Beautiful scenery (plains, desert, mountains, highlands, etc), climbing, hunting, atmospheric effects taken into account, gotta read a topo map to get around. Gotta forage to cook dishes that restore health and stamina.

Speaking of minecraft mods? is TerraFirmaCraft still around? I used to play it on 1.7.10, it really amps up the survival part. I love open world games where the world is neat enough to explore with practically no goal other than to explore the environment and see where you can go, find the boundaries of the map.
So, wit that said,
>Horizon zero dawn is literally the coolest most varied, best designed open world game i have played. Exploring that world with its mountains and different biomes is so much fun. Forget all the memes and garbage about it on /v/, the world is really something else, contsted only by
>san andreas. Deserts, hilly forests, and beaches had this game being the best world in a video game for ages.
>mad max is pretty good if only for all the different ways they can make a desert look awesome. Its not all just sand dunes and flat land. But everything is just so huge and spaced out, so its not super fun exploring the world on foot. So its docked a few /out/ points for the need for cars.
>minecraft obviously.
>>
>>1000759
Firewatch has A class aesthetics and /out/ story. But its decently scripted and theres really no concept of exploration. And a huge part of being outdoors is finding new trails and seeing new sights i haven't seen before. I never really got that out of firewatch. Its still and amazing game though.
>>
>>1001044
Fuck, i forgot about this. Its such a great /out/ game. Good call.
>>
>>1001812
>Horizon zero dawn is literally the coolest most varied, best designed open world game i have played
Your taste is fucking terrible, zero Dawn a shit
Witcher is much better
>>
>>1001834
Witcher is really good but lacks as much environmental variety as horizon. Which makes it less fun to explore since your're seeing mostly the same (but great looking) type of environments the whole time. I love witcher, but as an rpg with a great story, not for its enviroments.
>>
>>998638
OP here

Fuark I miss that playthrough. Tonnes of survival mods, texture mods, increased wildlife, more monsters, and a bunch of vegetation mods.

I played on Legendary as a conjuration mage. I'd never buy a house, just bring my camping gear along and wander the world, hunting and fishing and doing odd jobs. Funny how exciting it can be to spot a herd of deer, sneak down, conjure up a longbow, and take them out, knowing I just scored food for days.

I don't currently have a console or a PC capable of playing games, and I haven't played games seriously in about a year, but...

my favorite /out/ related games are
>Alan Wake
it's on xbox 360 and PC. It takes place in the pacific northwest and most of game takes place at night innawoods, or at dusk. There's not a whole lot of depth to it, and it's fairly linear, but it's worth one or two playthroughs on the hard difficulty. It's a beautiful, highly underrated game.
>Far Cry 2
It's an open world FPS set in Sub-Saharan Africa, not a generic setting in the least. You also have to deal with your character contracting disease, your gun jamming, and random fires and wildlife. Any of the Far Cry games are good for exploring the world, but FC2 had the most interesting and experimental mechanics out of the whole series.

I had to stop playing for a while when I realised that all I had done was build a low-tech water purification factory in the starting room. I had the lab full of bottles of water, and would the spend rest of my time hunting dog men to make more coats so I could stay warm while collecting more water to purify.
>tfw when you're a smelly hobo wearing the skins of mutants and a clown mask roaming the post-apocalyptic country side to murder people with a spear while filling old whiskey bottles with pond water.
>>
>>1004192
It's kind of realistic, I think it's a comfy game and a lot of fun with lots of game and different environments. Never mind the ftp, if you want to do anything fun in this game you have to pay. I spend about 20 euros and it's good. Haven't played in a while though but you can just try it.

Now you spergs might be yappin: There is no serious crafting, the animals are fictional, you don't really build or grow much, and you spend much of the game inside irradiated bunkers.

However the series has that post-apoc Americana feel prevalent in /out/ aesthetics.
I for one started camping and doing things like portable ham radio and messing around with off-grid stuff inspired by Fallout games.

I'm sure I'll miss some stuff, you can read the patch notes on steam, but new ui, "upgraded grafax", story mode with 2 eps ranging from 6 to 10 hours combined, 2 new story mode locations(will be added to sandbox at a later date) flares and torch can be thrown again, you can use rocks to throw at wolves to try and scare them off, rocks van be thrown at rabbits to stun them, and the you snap their little necks, you can now quarter game corpses and take them to your shelter, but it attracts wolves and shit, I'm sure I'm missing more, bit super hype.

get the new one in the series, thehunter: call of the wild

it costs money (or not, if you're willing to pirate it) but you get everything the game has without the need for micro transactions, you can level up and buy everything with ingame currency

the downside is that you need a good computer, or else it runs in slow motion (really)

What's the length, climate, and topography like? That will determine how much water you need to bring. Also if you can bring a map, and occasionally look behind yourself so that you can spot familiar places if you need to backtrack at all.
