anyone else have an urge every time they see a big growth of bushes to go inside and make a little stealth camp? My local taco bell has a really nice growth, I want to clear out the center and sleep in there, could raid the garbage can for food. There's something cozy and safe feeling being inside a big bush
I agree anon. I think humans just like being comfy. Same reason I like small cozy apartments.
Don't sleep in the taco bell bushes though
We got thickets of mountain laurel all over and some of it is so thick you can barely see in and it's like a big dome. once you crawl your way in it's really nice and private. a couple times crawling into them as a kid i would scare a family of deer out of it because they would nestle in there. pic sorta related, best i could find on google anyway

One day I was walking home pretty drunk with the lads and ended jumping on one of these bushes. Ended slashing my ear as result of it.
I hate bushes now, only trimmed.
Recommend outer wear for -10 degrees F with possible wind chill?
I know Canada Goose gets shilled a lot as being particularly warm, but is it true?
What are some of the most undisputed / warmest outerwear?
Price isn't a concern
>>1006600
Depends on what you are going to do, sometimes parkas are better, sometimes layers.
Feathered Friends for in the mountains. You'll look like the Michelin man though. CG for in the city.

Didn't you have an uglier cunt to choose?
Where dat rainbow gathering at? I'm hearing it's at the Finicum National Wildlife Refuge. Can't wait for sum a dat popcorner
Are rainbow gatherings as unhygienic as I would expect? Do people even wash their hands after shitting at those hippiefests?
>>990570
you cant put a 1000 people in a single campsite with no facilities and expect it to be hygienic. Most campsites are left india-tier after rainbow gatherings pass through.
>>990570
Yes. Please stay home eating McDonald's being healthy
Is investing in a good 'higher price' knife worth it? Or should I just get a basic mora? I wouldn't mind something that'll last years and remain effective but I also don't want something I'm scared of damaging.
>>989763
Yeah, you shouldn't buy a knife you are scared to abuse. Then you end up like those EDC fags that have a drawer full of knives that they only take photos of.
I know, i went through that phase. We can all tell you to get this knife, or this knife but in the end you're the only person who can decide what knife will suit your needs.
It's all trial and error. I've been through countless ESEE's, Tops, etc. I finally ended up settling with a BHK pitbull. I can EDC it if I want, baton small wood, carve, etc. It works for what I need it for and feels amazing in the hand.
A decent budget knife (was budget anyway) is a Condor Bushlore. I abused the shit out of that knife. It held a good edge, was easy to sharpen and could handle all the task I threw at it.
>>989763
I wouldn't spend much money on 1095 steel knives.
With tops and Esee you buy the name for the most part.
I use a Leatherman for carving and all other fine work and a hultafors 1lb. mini hatchet for chopping and splitting.
Mora HD companion and a hatchet will do everything you need.
But yeah, the cool factor is what gets you going, so buy what makes you happy.
>>989873
what would you recommend instead of 1095?
I know we have a car camping thread going but this one is more focused around the vehicles themselves.
I live in Spain and want to pick up a dirt cheap off road getaway /out/ car. Is the niva perfect for 1 -2 man outings? Should I consider the little suzuki? Or get a bigger used car?
(Or should I blast all my savings on a defender and live off water and rice?)
Consider this a continuation of the last thread.
hopefully this turns into another ranger master race thread

you spelled "power wagon" wrong

power wagons were cool 30 years ago now theyre rusted out pieces of shit boomers want 15k for
What are the most remote islands in the world that are self sufficient, and not inhabited by hostile natives? Meaning you could take refuge there and live off the land and waters.
>>1011111
holy fucking quints
If you really like cabbage, seals, and cold climates you could go to the Kerguelen Islands and live off the fauna/cabbage

I'm teaching wilderness survival merit badge this summer, what's a relatively long term bush shelter that I can make in two weeks or less to impress the kids?
>>1010044
This is one of the easiest merit badges if Im remebering right. Our version of the sheter was always just fastening a tarp around some trees and calling it good.
This one isnt supposed to be impressive, it's supposed to show somebody with limited resources they can still survive.
>>1010044
Don't you guys build a shelter in 4-6 hours and stay overnight with the scouts?
2 weeks could build a house man.
Just have them build a tripod thats leaning against 1 or 2 trees and layered with smaller sticks, leaves, and mud. Enough layers will make it waterproof, of course, stress that is must be load bearing.
Summers here and I'm in the market for a good pair of sun glasses, What are some good durable brands?
>>1009977
Go to the fishing section at walmart. You wont find any polarized sunglasses for cheaper.
>>1009977
Blublockers if you don't mind looking rad as hell.
They're like 20 bucks, light weight, and sturdy.
I like Oakley frogskins because they're the opposite of durable. The arms are designed to snap off instead of break, so after you roll over on em in your tent you can just snap them back into place. Also super light. Been running in them for years.
Got a pair of smith lowdown's on sale for 40 bucks that I'm also pretty happy with.
>>1009977
>my oakley holbrook frames have been pretty much indestructible. they can flex like crazy and if an arm comes off you just snap it back in. the only thing i have had to replace are the lenses and i just got some off 3rd party polarized ones that are exactly the same for a 1/3rd of the price.
on the flip side....
my brother who is hardcore into fishing and travels a lot just buys in bulk (usually 2 dozen at a time) the cheep ones you get at weddings and bar mitzvahs or whatever online. it comes out to like 3 bucks a pair and the pack will last him a year or two. it suits him just fine.
hes a lot less bummed out when he loses a pair in the water than i am.
Are these a good idea for a shelter?
>>1009961
Only if there's no wind and rain.
>>1009962
Just put it closer to or on the ground then.
>>1009961
If you're not a retard they are fine. Tards have a lot of trouble though

I know there's preppers here
But is anyone here preparing/prepared for a large-scale Defensive War?
Regional Defence Thread
I'm doing some prepping just because I don't trust a major conflict to break out in the US in the next 5-10 years. Tensions are too high and the MSM and alternative media are polarizing folks more than ever. I've got a sustainable garden, long term food storage, some rabbits, chickens, and dairy goats enough to ride through a major conflict. Got some guns and what not, I figure that's better than not having them. I live in a rural community of about 25 people where everyone has about 10 acres and are mainly like minded afghan and iraq vets.
I just can't stop watching the news though, or going on /pol/. It's like watching a slow motion car wreck and I'm in the backseat. Just want to keep my family safe.

>Defensive War
If you live in Mearca this isn't a thing. Based on logistics of land & sea, as well as other militaries' ability to actually project power and launch an invasion onto the shores of the US (including through Canada, Mexico, and/or Latin Mearca) it just isn't possible. In fact, people have run models and simultions that pretty much indicate the entire planet together couldn't successfully breach US shores.
But I spose if there's another Civil War where armies are wandering about freely through the country you might think about it I guess. Also, if you live in a country near the sphere of Russia and to a lesser extent Chiner then I'd be preparing as well. And if anything happens betwixt the US and Chiner, Straya's gonna turn into the "United Kingdom of the Pacific" once again and be highly fought-for.

So what role would cryptids like Bigfoot or Dogman play into such a scenario?
Most primates, especially simiiformes (monkeys, apes, and humans) need a ton of plants to survive. If bigfoot exists (which is pretty doubtful), then bigfoot would probably eat mostly plants. We're talking about something that most likely would occupy an ecological niche similar to bears, especially the black bear.
The dogman is a crock of shit, and nothing more. This is like discussing what impact a ghost or a fairy would have on the ecosystem. However, if it were to exist, a werewolf would probably eat a lot of meat, and act as an apex predator, similar to wolves.
>>1009067
Skepticism is perfectly natural, but you'd be surprised what our ecosystem is capable of supporting. Then again, I'm not going to accost you for doubting either with no proof of my own to offer to the contrary.
How can I make self-sustainably feed myself for life with $20k or less?
>>1007829
>buy $19900 wine
>buy $100 lobster
Then kill yourself.
>>1007829
Move to rural southeast Asia and buy a farm.
Well, I dropped my 4 dollar Coleman enamel mug on a rock and it chipped the enamel off both the outside and through inside. Not sure if it's safe any more because no idea what's in those layers or if they'll flake off in my coffee.
Do all enamel mugs do this or is it just Coleman being family vacation grade trash? Also what replacement mug do I buy?
>>1007798
have you thought about embracing the #tumblerlyfe?
>>1007798
They do flake off. You are going to habe to toss it. I know it will be hard to do. I was consuming a few chips a day, so I had to trade mine in. Like so many other things, ultralight faggots have made getting a new one much harder than it should be. All they have in stores are some bitch-made magnesium shot glasses or the dumbass SS ones with the folding handles.
Stanley makes a number of lovely mug and muglike products, but also the chunky plastic cups that come with the steel cooker are absolutely delightful, even if they don't look like it. They're just really thick and fit so nicely in your palm, and everyone should have the set to begin with anyway.
/out/ i need some help. Im in the market for new hiking shoes. I was looking at the ones in the pic attached. Can you guys tell if these are any good or recommend any good shoes?
