how the fuck do people afford tires for autocross? is it all they do? is it just a rich man's hobby?
>>15465830
They stopped working part time at mcdonalds.
>>15465830
Being able to afford a spare set does not a rich man make
>>15465830
Just get some steelies and throw some nice rubber on them. Only use them for autocross. They will last a good while that way.
This was one of the cars I was thinking of upgrading too. I went to a dealer today, they tried to feed me everything they could to get me to sign for one. But I made it out alive.
These bad boys are going for 16k for manual, or 20k automatic.
They are incredibly spacious.
One of the main reasons why I liked the Jazz was because it has enough leg-room, and head-room, to fit my 6 foot 5 body.
I've seen plenty of reviews. There is barely anything wrong with these cars. The only downside I can think of is, the 3 year warranty, and the low clearance.
What other issues are there?
I might buy 1 or 2 next week.
It sounds like it fits you well. I could pick out stuff I don't like but I'm 5'7" and don't care about anything you listed. IMO buying a car is about picking the one that suits you the best. Otherwise everyone would drive the same thing.
That's all assuming you're cool with telling people "I drive a Honda Jazz."

If you're trying to make Russia seem impressive, they're not. The majority of their MBT force are mothballed T-72s and T-80s which are obsolete even with ERA and other upgrades which most don't have. In terms of regular forces Russia is a paper tiger. Their little conflict with Georgia proved how incompetent their leadership and how outdated their equipment really is.
too bad they can't afford to arm any of them

Tell me how the 240sx isn't one of the absolute best front engine rwd cars ever produced.
but it is

With exception to the Spec R and Type X, the S-chassis cars weren't great stock. It was the fuckhuge tuning community and aftermarket that sprang up after it that brought the best out of them. All those "tastefully modded" shitheaps on Craigslist are a testament to that process.
Nissan gave us the platform but we made it the best, anon. Well, us and Autech for pumping out the NA 200 horsepower Autech and Varietta models. Now comes the Toyobaru after it; another affordable FR car that doesn't exactly impress from the factory but with people who want to make it do more. As the older ones depreciate we'll see more engine swaps and fuckery as the successor for the S-chassis leaves its mark.
>>15465435

Exige S or 4c?
What's your pick?
>>15465346
Both are too pigfat. I'd take one of these for $70k instead. 450kg and 200hp, yummy. I'd DD that shit occasionally too.

Neither. Cayman s.

4c is DCT only for some retarded reason, so Lotus.
I'm buying my first car, but I'm still young and not financially established. I want to buy a used BMW, but I can't help but think in the back of my mind that going that route may be a big mistake. I hear that BMWs are very reliable, but what are the chances of things going wrong and the car becoming a money pit that I won't be able to afford? I'll pretty much only be looking a BMWs with over 100,000 kilometers on them, in my price range.
On the other side of the coin is buying a newer compact car, which seems sensible, especially in my current stage in life. But I know it will be so disappointing. A boring, FWD car that's pure transportation and no fun. I don't want to financially ruin myself though. Are my expectations unrealistic? Should I force myself to save more money? If I do, I feel like it's not smart to spend even more money on my first car. Any thoughts, experience or advice would really be appreciated.

>>15465291
Not a fan of Honda or hatches. The MX-5 seems like an odd choice as an only car.
>>15465305
Would you mind explaining? Not sure why I'd want to buy an even older car as my main means of transportation.
What to know when buying e46? Is it good for a first car? Is the 5 series of similar age a better idea?
Check around the rear shock mounts for damage & cracks, check for cracks around the subframe mounts, check the front strut towers for crowning, check the waterpump (see if there is any play in the fan, there shouldn't be any), get a new valve cover gasket and a new oil pan gasket, get a manual one. at least 2.5l, pref 3l or you will get bored.
How's the reliability and how much of the maintenance is simple enough to do on my own if I don't know anything about mechanics but want to learn?
>>15465351
This. Also look out for the clutch too. I drove a few recently when looking for my e46, and a lot of the clutches had issues, because they have worn down quite a bit.
Thoughts on the Subaru Alcyone/SVX?
One being sold near me, 148K miles, $3K
I know little about Subaru other than their cars always seem pretty reliable. is this a good car? certainly looks spiffy.

How does /o/ feel about wheel spacers?
>>15465069
Spacers that long looks like it would put an extreme moment of force on the lugs and hub that they weren't designed for. Not to mention the horrendous scrub radius and additional stress on the rack. ....but maybe they've accounted for all that. I don't know, I'm not an engineer.
Other than that it looks stupid. They'll get peoples attention solely because people will think you're an idiot.

What do you guys think about Cherokees?
>>15464710
it is literally everything you need in a small suv
it will do snow
it will do light amounts of mud
it will carry all of your bags
it will carry a family of four and a dog
it will protect you in a mild accident
Classic Cherokees were awesome, new ones just look silly.
>>15464725
classic cherokees had weak little unibody frames
The 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport is arguably the best car of all time. Its handling ability, the impressive all-wheel drive, its nice, crisp, yet smooth (manual only) shifting, and nice sporty look combined with its practicality makes this literally the pefect car.
Plus, those are the best subaru headlights.

Any Mechanics here willing to chime in?
>is becoming a mech just a meme now?
>dealership or private owned?
>UTI or comm college?
>will i be miserable regardless?
Im about to turn 22 and ive decided i want to become a mechanic. All i want is 60k a year and nights n weekends, my plan is to go to UTI in orlando and get ASE certified while specializing in European/luxury/high performance maintnence. Am i just gonna end up at Jims Transmission for 30yrs? I need guidance.
>>15464546
UTI as an absolute rip off, avoid at all cost, why would you even consider them?
>>15464604
Mostly for the hands on exp. im kind of at that point where i just dont know what the fuck to do. Any school recommendations?
>>15464669
your local community college. If you're serious about going the mech route, that's the absolute best way. You'll get a better education at a fraction of the cost, and have far more chance to get set up with a real world job after you graduate
