Is there any way to delete my idle air control on my 1988 2.3 ranger.
I want to replace my entire air system with just a tube and cold air intake.
You already have a cold air intake

Spectre air filter
I wanna do this and figure out a way to delete the IAC and not make the computer say fuck you and run the truck weird.

By fitting the right resistor instead of the sensor/actuator.

He was working on his Toyota when an angry Mercedes driver crashed into his car.
Scotty was unfortunately underneath his car during the crash. His jack stands collapsed from the impact of the crash.
It really is a sad day for all of the automotive world. A true legend and icon has been lost.
So when you are out driving today lads make sure you rev up your engine real good for your old buddy Scotty...

Scotty doesn't use jack stands.

Why does the "American cars can't turn and are only fast in straight lines" meme still exist when tests have been proving the exact opposite?
>GT350R will walk a new NSX around the track but get destroyed in the 1/4 mile
>C7 Grand Sport is faster around Willowsprings than anything with under 600HP but is almost 4 seconds 0-60
>Viper ACR setting track records but is drag limited to 177mph
>Camaro SS 1LE keeps up with the M4 GTS despite costing a third as much, having less aero and power, weighing more, and using street compound tires
All these cars are track queens but none of them can get close to an 11 sec 1/4 mile
Butthurt and/or jealous third worlders and eurocucks
>>16260518
>ll these cars are track queens but none of them can get close to an 11 sec 1/4 mile
Except the ACR does 11.6s and Grand Sport with the optional auto and PSC2s does 11.8s. Also, even the Ponycars are doing low 12s which is close to 11s.
I don't know where that meme started. My shitty old S10 blazer could take turns are 2.5x the speed limit and could almost keep up with STI's on the tight mountain roads. I'm pretty sure It'd destroy any 70hp euro clown car on a tight road.

the repair bill after 3 years of ownership
Hey /o/, How do I learn the mechanics of a car? Is there a book or something I could get? How did you learn? Thanks in advance
>>16260407
Step 1: get car
Step 2: shit on car will break
Step 3: figure out how to fix it with internet/books
Step 4: learn mechanics of car
Get a Chiltons/Haynes manual for whatever car you have. Problem is the bus company isn't going to let you near the internals.
>>16260407
Modern Automotive Technology text book is what they gave me back in high school. It's bretty useful, you could get an old used edition which I bet is still relevant
>>16260421
>>16260426
Wasn't expecting such fast replies, thanks a lot guys.
Well it wasn't broken into. I'm sure I just didn't lock the car.
Live in Suburbia with no crime rate and little density so can't be a hobo. They tore up the front part of my cab and didn't touch the mess in the extended cab in the back.
Things that they glanced over and didn't steal:
Five Dollar Bill
Dashboard Camera
Few cartridges
Tyre repair kit
Brand new spark plugs and wires
Everything in my tool box
$60 Leather binder plus
Insurance and mortgage information
What gives? Were they just searching for my keys?
>>16260312
They are looking for electronics. My gps ipod and one sub got stolen. You could tell it was dumb niggers because they couldn't figure out how to get the other sub out and they didn't steal my $100 tool set which was brand new.
>>16260339
Ah, that's a relief, then. They ripped out my emergency $10 from my leather binder and didn't take that so I was worrying they might commit some identity fraud with my Driver's license, registration, mortgage, and some client info.
I had like a total of $300 worth of tools in the back and like $100 work/winter boots and was surprised when they were still there.
I guess they just wouldn't want to carry such large objects and clearly look suspect to people.
I had my car broken into twice. First time was moving to my neighborhood and being new from a good place I left my car unlocked. I came out to every door and hatch wide open. Nothing seemed taken initially but later found out my Swiss gear backpack was gone. Second time was my window was smashed but no entry was made. I think it was my old landlord since I just moved down the street a year later.
What car has the most speed?
My parents gave me 50k to spend because I didn't turn out to be a disappointing slut like my sister.
>Pic related
For the money, probably a Mustang GT convertible. Or a 370Z convertible. Or an Audi TT convertible.
Noticing a trend?
>>16259978
Convertibles are faster? Is that because there is less weight on top or something?
>>16259978
Here's a story.
My parents owned a Golf MK2 that they sold to my uncle. It was a pretty solid car, but sadly it's rotting in front of my uncle's garage. He said the electrical part caught fire and since then he didn't drive it.
My question is, /o/, if I convince him to give it to me, would it be worth trying to restore? I don't know what caused the fire nor how bad the damage trully is, but it would be a shame to let it die.
Pic related is the actual car from 4 summers or so ago when he still used to drive it.
Grab it from him, fix the electrical problem, and then swap in a decent Toyota drivetrain.
Yeah, it's worth it if you get rid of the terrible VW engine and transmission.
MK2 Golfs are real tractor simple shits compared to modern hatches.
They're a fuckton to work on so if you want to get into wrenching, this is one of the fucking best opportunities to get experience.
If fixed through and through, they're also incredibly reliable and durable (don't listen to meme burgers, they don't know european made MK2 golfs)
>>16260265
*a fuckton of fun to work on
need some sleep
Does the LR3 make a good used car?
"Like any LR you need to find one that was actually taken care of. Most people who buy one for its name can't afford a new one in the first place. So do you think they're really going to spend money on repairs and preventive maintenance? Not likely! Look out for that one-owner vehicle, even if you have to contact dealers to get leads. Most dealers don't want to touch an older LR anyway (an 06 is 10 years old now!) so they may flip one to you that hasn't been abused and has been taken care of"
buy a Honda CRV for 3k
>>16259830
no.
Air suspension, british engineering, poor off-road ability, and high maintenance costs are a recipe for disaster
>>16259839
>poor off-road ability
I will give you the other, but really? They are pretty good in standard form assuming everything works
ITT: Cars you like for no coherent reason.
My family (7) toured all over Europe in one of those. The Autobahn sucked, doing 80kph with flashers on during hills.
I'd have one in the US if I could afford it now.
Am I gay?
I've been thinking about buying a vintage car preferably from the 50's this upcoming summer. got a budget of about 20000$ (200 000 Swedish kronor) any suggestions?
>>16259505
kys
>>16259551
Not a very good suggestion, don't cobsider it seriously. It will ruin you financially

Is the letting your car warm up before driving in the winter meme true? First time car owner here and I'm not sure, my mom believed in it but she's a woman so she can't drive
>>16259318
That comes from the olden days when your engine block wound literrally crack under pressure, coldness and rapid heating due to shittier mettalurgy. Now with better antifreeze chemistry, mettallurgy and better engine building period you can drive off in as little as five minutes. I usually pull off as soon as the RPMs level back down to idle speed and Ive never had a problem. That was hiw I did it even in Alaska and Ive never had a problem.
30 seconds is plenty of time. Just take it easy for the first half mile.
>>16259318
You don't really have to wait for the engine to warm up to standard temperature but it wouldn't hurt the car if you ran it for a minute before driving, new cars have smart computers that stop you from going to redline while the car is still cold
Why dont you own the best car for the money ever /o/?
Rwd, 50/50 weight, vtec, lightweight, honda reliability, revs to 9k, a toddler could drift it stock and it beats 100k cars around the track.
convertible only.
The S2000 is cool but largely overrated. The only thing it has going for it is its meme engine hp/l rating which no one really gives a shit about except for some autists. It's an average roadster that is very overpriced and is surpassed by the 350z/z4/911 in virtually every aspect of performance and value.
People like to think of the S2000 as Honda's version of the miata legacy but it just simply hasn't caught on. It's a strange vehicle that is out of place in its category.
