Most reliable atomotive gasoline engine ever built in the world: - AMC 242
Most reliable automotive diesel engine ever built in the world: - Cummins ISB 24v
Why do people think Japanese cars are superior again? Is it only because of the 80's when America was actually shitting out crappy cars?
Why are so many people stuck in the 80s?

People are routinely getting 500,000+ miles out of their 1GR-FE Tacos and FJs. I've heard of some oil pump failures, but it's always been a result of dinguses not changing it regularly or running the wrong oil (hurrr durrr muh Rotella in everyting)
Hey nice corvette there!

Very cool looking
Nice ignorance here buddy.
If your car culture only includes modern cars you only see in pictures, you really don't have to shitpost and show us that you're the usual average pretentious American who thinks that he and his nation rules over all.
Please, get fucked the next time instead of opening threads like this.
You only have 1 hour to explain why pic related isn't /ourguy/.

Considering picking up a 1962 Pontiac Tempest for sale near me, thoughts?
>3.2L Slant-4
>64k miles
>Engine might need a tune, brakes need work but does run drive and stop.
>Body and interior in good condition
>$2,000
>>16703944
YES!!! It is pretty much Pontiac version of the corvair.
>>16703955
Except for the fact that the engine is in the front but the trans stayed in the back. And it isn't a complete deathtrap.

ewwwww
So today I spent some time thinking about cars and efficiency, right? Cars burn gasoline (or diesel) to go forward - the more gas they burn the faster forward they go depending on the engine, and they turn the gasoline into carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and whatever else comes out of the tailpipe. The more gas the car has the farther it can go depending on the efficiency of the engine, with larger engines generally getting less mileage per gallon.
I was thinking about it, and what if there was a way to 'unburn' gasoline by running the engine in reverse? So the engine sucks up all the carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide through the exhaust manifold in the engine, then the pistons compress it back into gasoline? If you reverse the process, the car will just end up going backwards, sure, but if you got really good at reversing, you could in theory just drive places in reverse, suck up CO2 out of the air, and make gasoline and deposit it into the gas tank (for selling later, maybe). It makes environmentalists happy by reducing the car's carbon footprint and it makes a ton of money for the driver depending on how far they can drive backwards to unburn gasoline. Any thoughts?

uh combustion gives you co2 and h2o
You might be on to something here OP
I'm thinking about buying a used 2015 Honda Accord EL-X from a Honda dealership for $21,798. Should I go for it. /o/?
An Accord is a great car for the average driver, but try finding a 2013 for a little cheaper. Same generation but you'll be saving some money and might be able to get the V6
>>16703427
This
Don't be afraid to buy an older year if it's a good model. You'll be surprised how much you can save
>>16703427
The 13 doesn't have android auto or carplay
Also v6 is harder to work on and costs significantly more to maintain
The power is wasted on a econobox anyway
I have two little shit kids, I have a 2013 focus shit box. I need to trade that little bitch in and get a car that is comfy for car seats.
>dont want bitch car with no hp

seriously talk me out of buying a 17 charger r/t... i drove a fusion sport, maxima, and charger, and the charger gave me the greatest boner.

Keep the focus. It's fine. Should've used a fucking condom.
You can't afford it

my wife and I make north of 100k a year, why not?
So I can get a $14k government incentive on this thing. The new 2016 and 2017 models are apparently greatly improved and it's getting good reviews across the board. After the incentive it actually ends up being cheaper than a Prius, as well as being faster and plug-in.
What do you think /o/, is the Volt a good buy?
>>16702132
Why? You can get a used one for 15k.
>>16702148
The older Volts are not nearly as good as the new ones:

>>16702188
The older volts are better because they look better. The new one was designed with pedestrian safety in mind and therefore shit.
Hey /o/, thinking about going and seeing this '68 Valiant, maybe buying it for $1,800 assuming there are no major outstanding issues with it. Had a Valiant before, and really liked how it drove, and no longer have it. Note; I wasn't the one who picked the car out, as it was given to me by my dad, so I'm not 100% sure what to look out for when buying classic cars. The seller says it's a daily driver for him and that a good portion of the engine was recently rebuilt, as well as having decent tires thrown on it not long ago.
Any tips on what to look out for in older American cars, or opinions on the car in general?
Oh man that car brings back memories. My mom had one for years when I was a kid. Endless hours spent running around Fargo in that old POS. Never broke down though and started in even the coldest winters. Late 60's is still when American cars were fucking tanks.
>>16702051
Strongly considering buying it. Body looks like it's in great shape too. Interior needs replacing, but that's no big deal. Reliability and ease of repair are two big selling points as well. You could fit a damn fridge under the hood of these things.
Any other thouggts or opinions?
can I get an ID on this car pls
don't know the name but it's for people who need to use wheelchairs to get around

Fuck fuck fuck, I might actually be able to own a real Lamborghini! Even if it's just a frame, it's still a real lambo!
>>16700723
You can probably own older drivable lambos for less than that.

Hey, /o/, I found this nice looking 280z some dude in my area is looking to sell for $1,500. Says it has an exhaust leak, and just needs a couple fuses, but otherwise drives great. Body looks nice, but the interior is shit, which would likely be replaced assuming I bought it. Assuming I'm willing to spend a total of around $4,000 - $5,000 on a car right now, would you say this is worth buying and putting a few grand into? I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about cars, but I know the basics, and just wanted some opinions since I've always loved the look of the z series.
I would but it's also one of my favorite cars too. Offer 1k and no more though since it'll be a pricey project.
>>16699892
Reading online, I concluded it'd be less than $1,000 to fix the exhaust leak. What else do you think would be expensive, aside from new interior? Like I said, if it's less than $5,000 I may just go for it.
>>16699889
do what I can't and get it!
How do you drive a car until the wheels fall off?
Install alloy wheel nuts, won't take long
Ive seen that r32 in person before.

Can someone explain To me how these brake rotors I installed literally two months ago are already rusting?
>>16696805
All brake rotors rust. They come from the factory with oil on then to prevent rust. A few heat cycles and it is gone. Rust is normal.
