anyone wanna help me find my next vehicle on my local craigslist?
Ive got $5000 to spend and cant find anything worth buying here. Ive already got a bike to do dumb shit on. I was planning on buying something practical but I dont wanna drive something boring as fuck. Help a br/o/ther out
vancouver.craigslist.ca

The fuck do I buy? Ideally Id get something that can either haul or tow by bike to the track but at this point I just wanna get out of my civic. If pic related didnt have retardedly high K id probably get it for shits and giggles.
I havent looked for a vehicle in four years and I dont even know what to buy anymore

Idk what this is but I kind of want it
https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto/5997299236.html

Does anyone know how these things work in particular pic related? A motorcyclist friend of mine says he never gets gas at one of these types of pumps because he gets premium gas and thinks if someone before him bought regular all of that regular gas is inside the fuel hose. Then when you push the premium button all of that regular gas will come out of the hose, could be quite a bit, before the premium finally flows out.

I use premium in my bike because I only get 4 gallons worth and my bikes kinda speedy.

Premium but that's not what I want to know
>>

Petrol doesn't sit around in the hoses, they drain completely when the pumps shut off.

Does this actually do anything practical or is it just an aesthetic boomer meme? Does it enhance performance in any way?

I'll be frank with you fellas I don't know much about cars but I've always wondered how people go about increasing engine power on stock internals. I've seen 2jz doing 700+ on stock internals but I don't know how they do it. what do they change, how much, how little? How does it affect the longevity and reliability of the engine?

any care to explain it to me in simple terms

Sure bud

More power means more Air and Fuel needs to get into the engine.

Engines pump air&fuel in and out of the engine pretty poorly in stock form there are alot of restrictions to air flow.

Basically try blowing through a straw vs blowing down a garden hose, you will feel less back pressure from the air coming out of your mouth.

The concept with engine modification is to decrease restrictions with engine intake and exhaust.

The more advanced concepts are to get more fuel, combustion space and compression but you need to read up on that.

A great game to learn about this shit is Automation which might still have a free demo or a pirated copy.

Gl dood it took me 20 years and i still dont gettit fully.
>>
>>16697144
thanks mate
ill look more into it
>>
>>16697130
>stock internal
You have to look into what internals your engine has. 2jz has all forged internals thats why people can go hektic with them. If your shit has cast you cant do much without sending a connecting rod through the block.

Hi /o/. I just bought a Trans Am with a carbeurated SBC 305. I can get it to turn over but can't get it to start, not sure when the last time it was started. It is getting spark, when I press the gas it squirts fuel into the carb so I assume fuel isn't an issue, and I checked compression on all cylinders and they were 150ish. It turns over but won't fire. What should I try next? The car is a 1990 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with an 80's 305 swapped in. Thanks!

You sure its jetted properly? Maybe the A/F is way off.
>>
>>16696956

I'm not sure. The original carb is sitting in the passenger seat and an aftermarket Holley carb is in it's place. Not sure it has ever run with this carb. Can/should I switch the jets from the old carb to the new?
>>
See, the problem is it's got a 305.

Drop a 350 in there.

How do the war boys maintain their fleet of vehicles?
Do they just reuse shitty fluids?
Where do they get spare nuts and bolts?
What about all those turbos and superchargers, how do they keep them running?

Like, where do you go when all you need is a hose clamp?

If you have a power source, material and a good lathe, you can make almost anything.
>>
>>16696608
Dude, they basically worship cars and trucks. Trust me, when literally all your life revolves around is keeping vehicles running in a post apocalyptic wasteland, you'll figure it out.
>>
They've probably built some entire metalworking and refinery cities somewhere for every part and fluid they could ever need.

No one I know can drive a stick shift. I want to learn but I dont have a stick to practice on. Ive been reading a bit and while it sounds different, it doesnt sound too hard. Im about to buy a car so whether or not I can grasp the basics makes a difference in what car I get.
Any advice or tips would be great.
48 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>16696559
It's not hard. But no amount of reading will do more than give you the basics of how it works. To learn to drive stick you must go and try to drive stick
>>
>>16696559
Most of what you learn will be stuff you find out yourself while driving.
>>
You will stall. Many times. Look up youtube videos, they help more than we ever could.

Do any of you guys work as auto body technicians? I'm pretty sure that the job would be a good use of my skills, and there is definitely lots of work out of there, but I'm worried that it's a nigger-tier trade with little pay and no respect. Redpill me on this job.

I don't but know people who do it in addition to mechanical work as well. Basically, cut out piece of damaged sheet metal, weld into place the new piece, sand out the roughness, prime the spot for paint and apply your coats (base, clear, etc.).

I'd think it's like any other labor job - show up on time everytime, do good work and get along with others and you'll be OK.
>>
Painters get paid more than simple technicians, do that.

Definitely not as well respected as actual mechanics. However it seems that its easier to set up a body shop vs mechanic shop if you wanted to own one.
>>
>>16694738
Depends on the shop and owners of the vehicles.
I do sheetmetal work on classics these owners generally are happy with whatever you do.
Dent repairs on modern cars can be a major dick because people dont exactly know how much effort goes into just getting to the dent.
Ontop of that modern cars use garbage plastic that clicks intoplace once and breaks when you try to get it off.

And what this anon said

Riders of /o/, i have a question for y'all, im looking for a faceshield to wear when riding but the problem is i wear glasses and ones that i found in local stores basically leak my breath towards my glasses causing them to fog up, anyone know of a good one that will work for me?

why
>>
>>16693733
They'll all do this unless you find one with an opening under your nose, but depending on why you need it that could defeat the purpose.

>block air flow from breathing points
>only open spot is at bridge of nose
>"why are my glasses fogging"

It's not like you bought ones with a poor design.. That's just how they are. I use one underneath a full helmet in the colder days and it fogs up the entire thing. Sometimes have to crack the face shield by a mm or so.

Maybe find one with a net/perforated mouth or nose opening.
>>
>>16693733
Why not just use a full-face helmet?
Otherwise, they sell balaclavas and tube scarves for that.
Or treat the glasses with anti-fog stuff. A thin layer of washing-up liquid supposedly works.
