Could we get a Max Stirner thread going? i've been reading the ego and his own and its the greatest wankery ever.
Is there a philosopher who hated religion as much as Stirner? He rants about it or the God-fearing in every chapter. I'm not even sure what more there is to learn from him, but his rants are entertaining.
>Wheels in the Head
"Man, your head is haunted; you have wheels in your head! You imagine great things, and depict to yourself a whole world of gods that has an existence for you, a spirit-realm to which you suppose yourself to be called, an ideal that beckons to you. You have a fixed idea!
Do not think that I am jesting or speaking figuratively when I regard those persons who cling to the Higher, and (because the vast majority belongs under this head) almost the whole world of men, as veritable fools, fools in a madhouse."

Der Einzige is little more than plain old dull nominalism for the intellectually bankrupt adolescent. If you haven´t read the chap, consider yourself lucky, if you have, take consolation in the fact that you'll grow out if it.

You fucked up by posting an NSFW pic for a SFW board, don't do that shit.
As for The Ego and Its Own, I liked it and thought it made some good points, but its lack of self-examination is where it falls short.
Overall though you really can't fault it unless you believe in a god, which itself is tantamount to not having a discussion because divine law is portrayed as infallible, perfect and eternal.
Actually yeah, come to think of it has anyone produced a decent critique of Stirner? I've seen bits and pieces but they always resolve into personal preferences rather than logically reasoned alternatives.
Hey there /lit/ first time poster here. Does anybody know where I can find The Slab by Karen Traviss? Its the 1st chronologically in the Gears of War books. I checked out the book catalog in the pinned post and they have the others but not this one. I have no cash atm and cannot buy a copy but want to start reading the series immediately. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

literally a yaoi fanfic writer.
Is Mark losing his goddamn mind?
There's supposed to be 27 of these total.
The first volume is 839 "pages"
Is it some kind of genius? I enjoyed a lot of the passages, but I feel he's either completely jumped the typographical shark or is really onto something.
Is it a gimmick /lit/?
27 volumes isn't hard when you have entire pages that have a picture of refuse floating in a scummy pond, the letter E or random phrases like "WUZ" taking up entire pages
Does this have an actual intricate plot, and discernible ideas, and stuff?
Someone on /lit/ said it's supposed to be a parody of YA series.
>>8407578
Yes it's a gimmick. Why would you even have to ask?
Is it as hatefull as Journey to the end of night?
I guess i'll find out soon enough, but i'm generally curious.
>>8407543
It gets pretty damn mean-spirited towards the end and takes a relatively dim view of society, but his books after J R are more negative overall.
Agapē Agape is where all the bile he's built up over his lifetime spills out, though you can't really appreciate it until you read the rest and know at least a little about what his life was like.
>>8407559
Thanks! I'm looking forward to it.
"... How Holden Caulfield was some profound intellectual, he wasn't, he was a spoiled brat."
How do you respond /lit/?
Holden Caufield grew up and wrote the greatest piece of literature, the Recognitions, of the 20th century.
Family guy is shit and I haven't read that book so I don't care. Plus, next time you address me as '/lit/' I'll fucking end you you fuckING bitch. Got it?

Just finished this book, interested in reading more Murakami. 2 things:
Are there any Murakami books you guys would suggest? I wanna try IQ84 but I'm open to suggestions.
For those of you who have read this book, what was your take on it? I'd lie if I wasn't a bit confused/conflicted with the ending.
Murakami is a hack.
Am I a pleb for having read no Murakami outside of The Strange Library, which was supposed to be YA if I remember?
I have After the Quake but I never got around to reading it.
Murakami is trash, just read whatever, all books are the same.

just look into general post-postmodern authors. Murakami, Foster Wallace, etc.
he really likes Kafka, Beckett, and the high modernists though as far as I know. And several playwrights.
Um excuse me but what is this?
>>8406581
It's a book. Go and read one
Pseudointellectual garbage.
How many queries for your novel do you guys typically send? Obviously this question goes out to those who have completed novels. Also, how many rejections before you give up and shelf the novel?
I'm currently on 17 rejections, but several are from the same publishing house, just different agents. Most were form rejections, while others were helpful and provided some positive feedback. A couple even called the work "cool" but not not what they were looking for at the moment, which I guess means it's not upmarket fiction or YA.
Any info or hellstories about the querying stage will be appreciated.
>>8405676
Make that 18. I just received an email saying the agent wasn't "connecting" with the synopses I provided. Bah humbug.
>>8405676
around 50 is when I quit
>>8405790
I read 80 is the norm. I figure I'll make it an even hundred before I call it quits. I should be done with my second novel by that time and would be ripe for another round of disappointment. btw, I failed to mention this is the first novel I've sent queries for, if anyone's reading.
Is there another literary figure on a par with Oscar Wilde in terms of wittiness? The man was a living bon mot-machine.
