There so many schools of philosophy, how do I choose which is the best for me.

You make your own by endlessly exploring and criticizing and inventing, or you don't because why
Why are books so fucking boring?
This isnt a joke topic, its just a fucking epidemic. Pomo lolsorandumb faggotry is trash. Moralising Russians are trash.
think back to 1850. There were close to zero outlets for creativity and intelligence other than literature. Now that has totally changed.
The most damning aspect of literature in general is that most readers are women. Nothing else could signal a total dearth of creativity.

>my book club is full of pussy
>suddenly have 30 new girls that hang around in my life and a couple of faggots
>most reunions we talk about lots of shit and almost zero books, which is fine by me
Dont see any problem with this
Your brain is boring. But you'll never realize that.

Everything stems from literature.
Has anyone here read this? Just started it and looks promising and interesting

While that is in part due to general 4chan culture there's also the issue that threads are temporary and usually only last a few days here. If you make a thread about a book that almost nobody browsing has read it is bound to go by largely unnoticed. It's not that /lit/ is full of narrowly read assholes, it's just that the nature of the website favours discussion of topics that more people can chime in on and that will usually limit discussion to more widely read and renowned books since there's a higher percentage of posters who will have read them.
Hey /lit/, quick question. I'm thinking of a term with the following definition: When an individual desperately wants a situation to be a certain way, and everything they see that could validate this "fantasy" per se becomes infallible evidence that the situation is exactly how they perceive it.
It goes beyond "confirmation bias," can someone help me out? Pic unrelated

If you could choose to have the talent of one of these artists (not saying to do the same works, but to have the talent and the means to work on your own art, but with their genius), whom would you choose?
>Michelangelo
>Da Vinci
>Bach
>Tolstoy
>Shakespeare
>Mozart
>Beethoven
>Homer (lets presume for this that he was a single individual)
>Dante
Tolstoy was happiest, so I'll go with him.
It must be amazing living life SEEING people as great as he did, being so compassionate.

i guess they are similar to homer in history changing way

Try to focus on the creative-powers, not on the life.
That said, Tolstoy is great.

Penguin has a beautiful translation. I loved it
First 80 pages dragged a bit though
>>8404644
Agreed - the Penguin translation is phenomenal.
>>8404375
That one has the best translation
It sounds interesting so i'm thinking of picking it up to read after the Brothers K (I just read Infinite Jest).
Infinite Jest was really good but I have so many questions about the lack of ending. Since 2666 was unfinished, will reading 900+ pages of his book be an unfulfilling waste?
>he reads for the ending
ISHYGDDT
honestly i was very satisfied with the way it ended
>>8404370
It's unfinished but not incohesive. I imagine Bolano would have edited out a lot of stuff, but it has an ending (maybe not a neat tidy bow of an ending, but there's no jesting you).

OOGA BOOGA WHERE DA WHITE WOMEN AT.
>>8404394
I don't think there any white women in the entire book, actually
So, I'm reading the Brothers Karamozov and I am not too big to admit that I'm struggling. This isn't my first rodeo or anything, as I went through Crime and Punishment at a respectable rate. I found it engaging and constantly interesting. Brothers Karamozov, though?
I'm not sure if I'm just being a pleb or if it's the translation, but every character seems ready and willing to launch into in-depth speeches at a moment's notice. Entire pages devoted to one character talking at another. It would be forgiveable if the dialogue was interesting, but everyone just seems to be rehashing the same talking points and recapping the plot this far, over and over.
So, what is it, am I wrong or is it the translation?
>>8404351
Dostoevsky really likes to flesh out his characters so yeah the first 50 to 100 pages are often a drag, but translators for some reason don't translate to help this. Like for some reason they all fuck aroind with his quite snappy paragraphing and you end up with massive blocks of text.
>>8404351
The P&V translation could be the problem. Try the free Constance Garnett one.
FACT: Anyone who doesn't consider this great is a phony

To call someone pedantic is extremely pedantic.
>>8404324
This book is an unappealing piece of garbage though.
Why do you hate this genius piece of literature?
Quick question. What should i read before:
1. Kant
2. Hegel
3. Kierkegaard
to understand their philosophy?
Hegel to understand Kierkegaard, Kant to understand Hegel.
But Hegel needs much more time to be fully appreciated.
>>8404321
1. Plato
2. Kant
3. Hegel
In this order:
>Plato
>Aristotle
>Descartes
>Hume
>Kant
>Fitche
>Schelling
>Hegel
>Kierkegaard
Will they try to keep the final showdown(s) true to the book, or are they unable to be put to film?
The final showdown in the tv movie was fucking halarious.
I still can't fathom why he wrote that
