I'm in the market for a gun safe. Not looking to spend thousands, but it needs to be fireproof. What kind of safes do you all recommend?

First safe i ever bought.
Love the look.

Very surprised at limited space despite being a 20-something gun safe.
Almost full at 12 fully dressed rifles.

Find your nearest Winchester/Browning safe/gun dealer. Like the gun shop that keeps lots of over/under and trap/skeet guns on hand. They will periodically have closeouts on a safe when new models are coming in. You can usually score a good 18 gun Browning safe for $900 or so. They aren't the nicest but for that money will likely have better fire ratings and thicker steel than most of the budget brands.

Also if you have a Gander Mountain going out of business nearby maybe see if they have any safes. They won't want to move those to another location to sell so they'll likely make you a deal on it. Haggle with them and try to get a manager's override for the discount.
>>
>>33924138
Oh and make sure they will deliver the fucking safe and place it in your home. You don't want to have to navigate that big bastard in to your place. You can, but don't do it if you can help it.

Also that local Winchester/Browning dealer is likely to deliver it to your place for free. They will forklift it in to some dude who works their's truck and with a good handtruck get it in to your place.

Some good ones are when Caligula lined his army up to the Ocean and declared war on Neptune, ordering his men to stab the water. Since Neptune didn't fight back he declared victory and took sea shells as war trophies.

There are also plenty of counts of Soviets encountering Yetis.

The Soviet one sounds like the "ape people" were just some hairy ass fuckers living feral.

>Another case is said to date from around 1941, shortly after the German invasion of the USSR. A "wild man" was captured somewhere in the Caucasus by a detachment of the Red Army. He appeared human, but was covered in fine, dark hair. Interrogation revealed his apparent inability (or unwillingness) to speak, and the unfortunate creature is said to have been shot as a German spy.
>>
>>33924109
Assuming that this is a true story, there's alternative realistic explanations. You know that one disease which causes wolf-man like hair growth all over? It's quite possible that a Russian peasant family had a child with said disease and, upon finding it out for what it was, abandoned it, probably deep in the woods so no one would know. The child managed to survive in the wilderness somehow, and grew up feral. There are instances of this happening to other children, albeit without the hair growth. Then, given that during WW2 the Soviets spent a lot of time trying to form a single contiguous front, he was eventually located in these wilds and captured.

Are you aware with the concept of a base bleed? They can extend range and improve ballistic performance/characteristics by filling the vacuum created on the backside of a bullet and reducing drag. However, what if a micro- ramjet/scramjet were built into a bullet? A bullet is the perfect environment for such an engine, as the initial propellant explosion propels it to supersonic speeds necessary for such an engine to operate. Could this potentially be used to propel bullets to hypersonic velocities, or perhaps be used to fire spacecraft into orbit?

What size bullet are we talking here?
>>
>>33923959
Most likely large, artillery grade ones. If it could be sufficiently miniaturized it would be interesting to see assault-rifle sized or so ammunition with scramjets in them just to see how fast they could get to see if they could serve as low-power kinetic penetrators or something.
>>
>>33923984

It can go as fast so long as the bullet head doesn't exceed 7,600 degrees, the melting point for most forms of depleted Uranium. Though the army could just use literal rocks/ceramics as bullets too.

Welcome to Month 2 anons! Come shoot the Sweet 16 with us!

>rules in pic

>You don't have to shoot with a duty/carry handgun, but you are encouraged to, this is the "limited" division and the heart and soul of our drills
>you are free to modify the rules to enable people with restrictive ranges or atypical handguns as long as you remain within the spirit.
>Shooting with an odd duck gun or unconventional gun is considered in the "open" division
>you may shoot these drills as many times as you want and are encouraged to post results with pictures and content

>these threads are designed to promote participation and meaningful training and practice
>we try to be a little more friendly here, but joking around and typical /k/ humor is welcome

A ez mode target for this is a stack of note cards stapled/taped to a piece of cardboard

"The goal of DOTM is to have fun and get people shooting. With that in mind, shoot this as much as you'd like and share your results. However, some of the drills we post have a certain spirit to them. We encourage you to keep to the intent of the drill, as that will provide you with the most information about your level of skill and thus provide an accurate baseline upon which to improve."

hey /k/ what if each us state where their own independent country (I'm from SC 84) I would imagine the 2 Carolina's would unite into one country and do what this guy said
>North Carolina and South Carolina combine to form Carolina. The Carolina Light Infantry (Commando) is known to be most superior COIN force around and fireforce operations destroy outside enemies. Carolina Raider Companies raid lower VA and Northern GA coastal towns. Mountain Rifle Companies conduct sustained combat operations out of FOBs to varying degrees of success. The Carolina Home Guards act as Combat Sustainment Brigade supporting the various small, offensively minded units.
What are your thoughts on this /k/ what do your states armies be like?

Part of me is also considering an m11a1 for the similar look but increased durability of milled stainless.
Then again the p228 satisfies my inner wehraboo and apparently has "better balance" - which sounds like a sig forum meme.

Of course if i got the p228 I would probably get a p6 as well - that way I can distribute my range abuse to two guns and keep them running longer.

idk about the 228 trigger but my 226 had a mile long reset.
cheap, easy fix with a SRT kit though. now its a superb trigger

Why do people make a big deal about what handgun the military uses when only officers carry them?

They probably don't even shoot their pistols that often.

Take them to the range and let them shoot your guns. Ive taken dozens of co workers, friends, family, and strangers shooting. Women get scared easily so work them into it slowly. (.22 for the first few trips) My greatest joy is watching people who never held a gun walk away from the range after an hour with a smile that doesnt go away for days. Its up to YOU to teach your generation and the next generation about responsible gun ownership

My grandpa took out a cape buffalo with it, hopefully I could drop a Triceratops.

Shit pic related. Top is Mauser my dad got me two Christmases ago, bottom is the Mauser I recently came into possession of.

I think whatever lgs or bubba who worked on the top rifle did a good job on it.
I hate when people sporterize now, but I imagine this was done in the 80's when Mausers were still as common enough to fuck with and not care.

>>33923161

A lot of the sporterizing may have been done just after the war or in the 1950's when companies could pick up old bolt actions and surplus ammo for them almost for free. I had a pretty nicely done Lee Enfield which was put into an aftermarket stock, had two inches of the barrel cut off and a new crown done and had a scope mount added. The receiver had a company name who did the conversion stamped into it along with the date of conversion as 1953.

There's a difference between "Bubba'd" and "Milsurp action built into a sporter".

There are a lot of very classy rifles built on milsurp actions. It all depends on the execution. Here's a 1903 I bought that is class as fuck in every way... but it's still a "sporter".
>>
>>33923161
If it was done any time more than say, five years after they stopped either manufacturing them, then it's a bubba no matter how much "class" it has.

Nobody wants a corvette stingray that now has a spoiler that's not from a corvette stingray.
Nobody wants Mona Lisa with a mustache.
Nobody wants a stamp that isn't original.
Nobody wants collectible comic books with pages torn out of them to make the story "flow better".

Guns are no exception and anyone who disagrees is probably the reason this disgusting shit happens.

>William "Billy" Windsor I is a cashmere goat who served as a lance corporal in the 1st Battalion, the Royal Welsh, an infantry battalion of the British Army.[1] He served as a lance corporal from 2001 until 2009, except for a three-month period in 2006 when he was demoted to fusilier, after inappropriate behaviour during the Queen's Official Birthday celebrations while deployed on active duty with the battalion on Cyprus.

>The deployment to Cyprus with the 1st Battalion was Billy's first overseas posting, and despite being ordered to keep in line, he refused to obey.[13] He failed to keep in step,[16] and tried to headbutt a drummer.[17] The goat major, Lance Corporal Dai Davies, 22, from Neath, South Wales, was unable to keep him under control.[16]

>Billy was charged with "unacceptable behaviour",[10] "lack of decorum" and "disobeying a direct order",[16] and had to appear before his commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Huw James.[10][18] Following a disciplinary hearing, he was demoted to fusilier.[1][16] The change meant that other fusiliers in the regiment no longer had to stand to attention when Billy walked past, as they had to when he was a lance corporal.[13]

If you are engaged in combat in a relatively small building, such as a typical single family house, would you rather have a rifle such as an AR15 or an AK, or a shotgun, or a handgun?
People always say shotguns are best for home defense, but are they really better than "assault" rifles?
And what if it's not defense against a thief breaking in, but rather two-way combat where both people are armed and ready to fight?

if im going to swat a place i want my AR

if theres a banging on my door and some very fine gentlemen try to relive me of my stuff and my daughter of her virginity then shot gun.

home defense its hard to beat the "stopping power" of a load of 00 buck to the chest. you want that fight to be over now now now. even though an AR is much more precise. a shotgun will end it quicker.

as for a pistol my shotgun with the magpul stock and 18in barrel is shorter than my glock 17 when i hold it out to fire. so the shotgun wins there too.

also shotty is dirt cheap and simple.
>>
A carbine is more versatile than a shotgun in general. Personally I'd rather have a shotgun if I'm fighting at indoor ranges, but i wouldn't feel under-armed with a carbine either.
A pistol is good if you need a hand free to work a doorknob or steady yourself as you traverse rubble or what-have-you. It's also more maneuverable in cramped spaces.

Basically what it comes down to is using what you feel confident with and what works best in a given scenario.
