OP please don't post unrelated images as the OP pic. You're supposed to choose an image from the last thread and use that as the cover pic, with DRAW THREAD over it.

Not Brian, though he's the draw-nothing-but-hands faggot who always makes new threads right.
I'm just pointing out that normally a new thread image is a good one from the last thread, not something completely unrelated. Alt draw thread's been having the same problem, they used a datura pic instead of something from someone on here.

The reflected light in the shadows is super strong. And you are not really sticking to the local values too well either. Grab some real life objects like tomatoes or eggs or something else that is round, and do a still life of them.

Her facial features are misaligned.
All your edges are fucked up; your hard edges are undefined, and your soft edges are poorly blended.
The banding effect is basically preventing you from conveying form and mass.

You can try starting off with 100% opacity, and just 3 colors, or values rather: base value, shadow, and light. Then blend them together accordingly.

just collect a bunch of textures from the net over time and store them in a folder.
all types, like, wood, paper, stained metal.
the more HD the better.
then when utilizing, just copy paste into a new layer and set that layer to either multiply or soft light ect.
then play with the opacity settings for that layer.

I dont get it. Also, why did you use expensive oil/ acrylic colours for something that could have easily been drawn with a pencil?
>>
>>2506334
the title is significant because the number the clock's hand is on is metaphorical for where I am in my life. you guys would be the 1 below mine.

it has to do with the difference between men and women, and differences between men who are good and men who are bad and how they aren't that different
>>
>>2506349
its student grade white and black oil paint. not exactly decadent
>>
>>2506129
It needs something on the left side. Or some more details in the foreground. Looks boring now
>>
>>2506354
Still dont get it. Whats the symbold for man, whats the symbol for woman.
If you have to overexplain your picture that much its most likely that your sybolism does not work.
>>
>>2506361
here's my explanation i gave on reddit.
it is a clock. the numbers represent each facet of men and women, and the cyclical nature of life and death. the 3s at the top and bottom are heaven and hell, the left side is life right now, the right side is this life in reverse. the 2s are women, the 1s and 3s on the right and left side are men.

the 2s are meant to represent the constant nature of women, and the difference between the 1s is "good" men and "bad" men ( in a sexual respect. men who want sex and men who don't).

the numbers are symbolic also for the importance of each gender in their respective lives. on the right side men are more important since they are farther from being similar to heaven and hell ( 1 is farther from 3 than 2), and on the left side since it is this life in reverse the men who were 1s before are now 3s and are identical to heaven and hell and 2s are instead the superior number.

In this life men are better; on the other side women are better. we balance each other out. the 1 that is being pointed to represents me and my being a "good" man because I do not want to enjoy life, but I used to be a "bad" man and I would've been pointed at the lower 1.
>>
>>2506365
this is the story I am going to try to tell in all of my abstract/illustration work. i'm going to keep doing fine arts focused subject matter like still lives, nudes, portraits, and landscapes but that clock metaphor I'm going to try to keep in mind when I work purely with color, letters, and numbers, or if I'm going to tell a story.
>>
>>2506365
1: What exactly makes the "bad men" bad? Their hedonism?
2: "In this life men are better; on the other side women are better"
I dont understand this. You have not given a clear explaination why.

Do you intend on writing a paper on how your work is supposed to be understood and pin it on each of your paintings? Because that is way too much context on way too less visuals. assuming your other work is equally "minimalistic".

>1: What exactly makes the "bad men" bad? Their hedonism?
yes. killing sex drugs excess just the regular stuff. makes you a bad person.
>2: "In this life men are better; on the other side women are better"
if men are 1 in this life and women are 2 and death is 3 men are better because they are farther from death. more alive. if the life opposite this one is this one in reverse men are worse in that one because they would be 3s. in this case think of 3 and 1 as extremes and 3 is the opposite of 1. so if women are 2 in this life and the reverse one it makes sense they are better in the next life because they are 2s and we are 3s and they are farther from death ( more alive).

>Do you intend on writing a paper on how your work is supposed to be understood and pin it on each of your paintings?
sure why not?

>Because that is way too much context on way too less visuals. assuming your other work is equally "minimalistic".
it's not. my other work is landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and nudes.

"men are better because they are farther from death"
Men are further from death than women? How? in what perspective?
>>
>>2506402
Farther spiritually. That's your feminism talking. All natural instincts tell us men are better in this life. They have the potential to make women happy or sad just by how they use their own sexuality. Not farther from death in the literal sense. When we die we die. The good news is we go to heaven that's the death that's next. After heaven things go backwards and men are fucked. It's not going to be so terrible it's basically going to be as bad for us as it is for women in this life. Then when the reverse is done we go to hell, then it starts up again on this life and men are better again
>>

thats not true. if it was that easy i could just write this stuff down and every guy wouldn't want to masturbate anymore. theres no super secret combination of words that will convince men of this. but if i let other men's ignorance get in the way i'd never do anything.

Guys I desperately need criticism.

This is my first post on this board because I didn't even know it even existed. I just bought a Wacom Intuos tablet (about 2 weeks ago) and my parents want me to show them what I have been drawing with it.

I need you guys to tell me if this stuff is even worth showing.

Pic related is my first painting which is a Bob Ross painting that I did as part of this awesome Krita tutorial.

stand up right now.
literally.
stand up behind your computer and look down.
look at your feet.

i bet they are pointing forwards. not at repelling angles like in your picture.

relaxed natural standing position is normally both feet pointing more or less to the front.

it is actually an effort to point your feet in directions that you have illustrated.

apart from that, nice stick sales man.

Proportions are fine, while the head is a maybe a little small sometimes it's something that's commonly done in the pursuit of idealisation, rather than too big which just looks cartoonish.

Lines are kinda rough, don't say in two or three lines what you could with just one.

Too much fixation on detail, crosshatching is often a waste of time, and smudging just makes the body look cloudy and one dimensional, even if the model is very gradated in real life it's better to interpret that and simplify for form's sake.

Faces are just kind of basic looking and let it down. Something I struggle with myself.

try to have hatching follow form and perspective. the walls are a mess of hatching. i get that's a "style" to do it wrong but it looks bad. pic related is a segment of the wall. you wouldn't be able to tell it was a wall without the rest of the image and even then it's only because there's an outline.

i can understand getting hatching wrong, like accidentally hatching something incorrectly, but this is just you getting everything wrong on purpose in the name of style. don't do this. you'll never learn how to properly hatch and shade.

Looks pretty good overall. I think you can simplify some things more though, like you have a lot of small value shifts giving a faint patchy appearance. You can probably reduce the number of values in each section and it would read a lot cleaner and nicer. I also think you are overdoing the soft brush in places and it is is giving an unfinished appearance. If you ever want to make something look highly finished you need to treat your edges with more subtlety.

Careful of drawing errors too--the ear is misplaced by quite a lot, the neck is super thick and traps very large, the eyebrows are placed strangely, her skull is massive up top etc.

im also kinda intimidated by the quality some people post here even many artist say you shoudlnt compare yourself too much..
>>
>>2508388
Dont compare yourself to other people if it will stop you from producing work. Of course you need to compare yourself to other artists, just make sure that you are also learning from them. Its mainly something people say so they dont get their feefees hurt

Dude I love this. Way to take an already existing art style and make it your own. Would totally rewatch evangelion done in this style.

Are you in a school or doing this on your own? If you are doing this of your own accord I recommend changing your approach. That overly mechanical flat 2-d observation is not a great method and was certainly not used by the people you are doing master copies of. If you are in a school I suppose you have no choice in the matter, but I would take some good thought on whether or not their methods will actually lead to the goals you want since they are hyper narrow methods that have little application.

Anyways, here's the original image if you aren't aware of it, maybe you can see a bit more into his process: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d4/Fortuny%2C_Nu_mascul%C3%AD._Lluitador_%28317_D%29.jpg

anything super wrong with the anatomy/linework?

I just did some more work on it today, don't really have the time put in too much detail being outside, unfortunately, what with the sun moving all the time and changing the picture dramatically.

Messing around with colors
>>
>>2508492
Sorry anon. The arms need help, they're out of perspective, the face is unattractive, lips are weird.. The hair looks more like shredded strips of cheese and the ends of the dress look flat as hell (Plus, they just seem random.)

And, you know, the legs are just throw in there.

At least your linework is clean but, there's very little weight to it.

Draw from reference or at least pay more attention to it.

how do you think this is coming out?
>>
>>2508551
Why aren't you using any opacity? If you must paint completely opaque, then at least take some care in how you lay down your shapes as right now they are blobby and not descriptive at all. Try getting some variety, even something as simple as letting pressure affect brush size.

Look at someone like Alberto Mielgo's work and see how he uses shape without opacity or blending. There's a lot of care in precision and design.
>>
>>2508554
i'd use opacity but my tablet is kinda busted. it has dead zones and skips around a lot so continuous lines are hard, and if i lower opacity it will layer a bunch of separate semi-opaque strokes on top of one another from skipping around so much. i'd do it i just don't really have the option right now.

i was more hoping for advice on workflow i shouldve said that. i have three layers right now. the clouds, the trees, and the figure. is it better to work in greyscale and build up color on separate layers instead of going right into color?
>>
>>2508560
I think working straight colour is a much better method.

Also if your tablet is really that busted your time would likely be better spent doing something traditional, even just pencils.

Trying to improve upon flesh tones. Any tips?
>>
>>2508588
The colour of anything will be influenced by its environment. So your flesh tones are very warm and saturated as might be expected in a fairly bright and warm environment. But she's surrounded by a strong turquoise. In that setting the skin would have less warmth to it, particularly in the shadows.
