Does anyone know what pen settings yoshikadu2011(Yoshikadu Hamada, creator of Tsugumomo) uses in Manga Studio? He creates his manga digitally, but yet he manages to achieve a look that's incredibly difficult to distinguish from traditionally inked manga. I've tried recreating this by lowering the anti aliasing and reducing the pen pressure sensitivity completely on opacity, density, and mostly on the size, but it's still not close to his. Any ideas?

>>
Side note: He's actually live streaming him drawing and inking pages on his YouTube right now if you want to see what I'm talking about in real-time. His page is yoshikadu2011

Even if you have his settings your technical ability would still be 30 years behind.

I'm not here asking how to make up for a difference in experience.

stark brushstrokes, muted color, exquisite line quality. This is what i call expressionistic realism.

I have some natural ability for drawing / painting. I'm still pretty beginner at drawing painting etc though. Which means I can pick whatever I want now to start with.

What would be the best format for recreating scenes / environments from my dreams?

Most of these dreams could look like real places. So no weird abstract looking shit or acid trip artwork. Also I don't care if no one else see any of this art, so its not about impressing others or some sort of art circle jerk

drawing, painting (what kind), digital (have a graphics tablet too)?

Whatever suits you. There is no "best format".
I will say that I'm partial to digital because it's versatile, and would recommend it if you're interested.

Get the animator's survival kit (the artbooks thread might have a link to get it illegally because it's expensive but Richard Williams poured thousands of his own money into making the book and the videos that go with it so if you can afford it, buy it)

Read and study all of that for animation.

As for the rest of art, read the sticky.

There's also some youtubers who can show you the basic principles of animation to help you understand them.

Well for over 2 years, when ever I search for some time lapse drawing videos, all I can find are the same old "realistic" western style, like 90% of them are. And many of them are just hurr durr me redraw some movie poster???
Do any of you guys know a place where I can watch Jap videos? Some people here did read moon rune right?
Right?
I'm in a college painting class and the first oil painting of the class was with this work I made about 3 or so months ago. While it was in the classroom I noticed the background color distorting a few weeks after I finished. Then it got accepted into the student art show and all the dark colors started to turn shades of orange in the corse of a few days. I brought this to my professor's attention and she didn't know what caused it. I didn't hear of other students paintings doing this, none of the other paintings in the gallery did this, and I've made other paintings with most of the paints used with no problem. The only thing I can think of was I mixed 2 different brands of paint for the black I used. Burnt Sienna by Winsor & Newton and a cheap brand (around $1 for 12ml tubes) of Ultramarine Blue. That is a technique I learned after joining the class and I didn't even have the Winsor & Newton paint until I started that class too so that's the only thing I could think of.

I know sometimes shit can fade from light exposure so if it was near a sunny window often that's the only thing I can think of. I'd try mixing the same paint and see if you can replicate the result to be sure?

Other way around actually, linseed oil tends to yellow if it dries in the dark, but can eventually shift back when exposed to sunlight.

Before I started that class I made other paintings including this one with cheap oil paints. I left it out in the sunroom for months and it stayed the same indoors and in the sunroom despite being made with linseed oil. This was before me buying better quality paints much less mixing them with any other. So this makes me think paint-brand mixing might be the cause?

I mostly draw on paper but I've been trying to become more comfortable with using a tablet. Something I'm really having problems with right now is how bad my line art looks on digital platforms. Can anyone help with this?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I assume you've only recently bought a tablet

It takes a while to develop the hand-eye coordination to be able to comfortably draw digitally

Right now your lines are very poor, you're doing what is known as 'chicken scratching' where instead of drawing a line in the image as a single line it is made up of many smaller lines all connected together. This gives it a very messy look to it and also doesn't help you improve in drawing better lines.

I think what would be best for you right now is to just grind out a bunch of hours drawing digitally to get that hand-eye coordination down to a T and then spend some time trying to be more conservative with your lines, try to draw your image with as few lines as necessary
>>
>>2961544
Don't draw from the wrist and I hope you bought a decently sized tablet. Too small ones cause issues in that sort of stuff! (though one can overcome 'em)

If you are a /beg/inner in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead (I recommend ShareX)

#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller

#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Where do people on /ic/ hangout? 4chan is alright and all but were do people go to chat and recognize each other by their names? Is there a discord I'm not aware of, I can't find anything in the catalog.

post your current work, stuff from 3 years ago isn't a good benchmark (unless you're still as bad as you were then, in that case I'd direct you to the beginner thread)

you don't even need to go to 4chan to find things to draw, and if for some reason you don't like the prompts thousands of anonymous users have taken their time to invest in, I suggest you keep a pinterest or collect art you like on google images or something.
