I have some natural ability for drawing / painting. I'm still pretty beginner at drawing painting etc though. Which means I can pick whatever I want now to start with.
What would be the best format for recreating scenes / environments from my dreams?
Most of these dreams could look like real places. So no weird abstract looking shit or acid trip artwork. Also I don't care if no one else see any of this art, so its not about impressing others or some sort of art circle jerk
drawing, painting (what kind), digital (have a graphics tablet too)?

emphasis should be placed on some

Whatever suits you. There is no "best format".
I will say that I'm partial to digital because it's versatile, and would recommend it if you're interested.

I would stay beksinksi closely, as this is what he claimed to do and very successfully.
But no one can tell you what a dream looks like.
