I'm very new to drawing, and I've been studying from loomis and vilppu per the sticky. My question is, HOW exactly am I supposed to study them? Do I not move on to the next page until my drawings look just like the ones on the current page, or do I skim the books doing different exercises and revisiting old ones from time to time? Loomis tells me not to copy his funny faces in Fun With a Pencil, but copying them is the only metric I can think of with which I might measure my progress. Any suggestions?

>being dumb
You use their lessons are rough guidelines, helping to visualize what you want to do. You're not supposed to copy them, you're supposed to use their hints to develop your own skill, not theirs.
>>2962096
depends how hard you try. with enough effort, anyone can draw that.
>>2962096
How ever long it takes you.
not long at all because it's shit
what do you think?
You messed up in a few areas.

DO NOT SEXUALIZE THE MIKU
Is this hand painted just looks glued on??
What's a good resource that shows a process for taking a gesture drawing to a finished drawing?
I haven't finished Glen Vilppu's figure drawing video course yet but that would be my first guess, can anyone confirm/deny it being covered there?

is her ear supposed to be coming out of her cheek?
>>2960086
Well.. No.
But I don't see it that way. Could you elaborate on this error?
>>2960127
well ears usually come out of the side of your head
I made many self portraits using a mirror and they are all terrible and dont look like me.
So what exactly is it then that im drawing?
How do i get a better understanding of my own face?I noticed it helped when i was standing up and using a bigger piece of paper to draw on.
Post your face.
>>2959730
I dont want to post my actual face on an imageboard.
>>2959727
First were you trying to copy what you saw in the mirror? Instead of copying what you see try to envision the structure under your skin.If you can construst your facial tructure with simple shapes which I know you can draw. Then you can see with some practice where your skin streatches, turns, and sags more accuratly than if you were to attempt to copy it. After you have your skin visualized the understanding where the light is coming from and how it is hitting your face will lead you to knowing where highlights and shadows must be placed on your face. This should be a practice of re creation and not one of copping.
How do you render like this on photoshop?
reeee *smack*

why dont you ask this faggot? no artist makes public art without some sort of public link.

Sai 2 and manga studio 5 are better than photoshop, this is the process in Sai and manga studio but should be similar in photoshop
You need this tools
-Airbrush in various densities
-Transparent airbrush with various densities
This is done with not many brushstrokes; a few brushstrokes with high density to get the dark shadow on the right leg, one brushstroke with a transparent airbrush to get the light (assuming you have a base color layer under) more brushstrokes with a medium density or less airbrush to get the lighter colors, the transparent airbrush to the get harder edges and a light color airbrush to get the highlights.
You have to use large and confident brushstrokes

Do you have to be a dick ?
General Thread for issues with Paint Tool Sai. I have an issue, I have been looking actively for tools and tool settings for Sai to enhance how color, shading, lines, lineart, etc looks. And.. I have an issue.
Got a marker-esk tool, meant for scratchy looking shading. But, if I have it too big, the lines just suddenly snap when made to curve. Why?
just use photoshop u retard

Youtube tutorials aren't doing it for me anymore, I need real advice.
I'm a student of Design of Visual Communications in a very small town in an even smaller Southeastern European country and I chose this college because it was the closest to what I could get to cartooning/illustration. I like it, but I've always wanted to be a cartoonist, and this school doesn't offer that kind of education.
Getting interested in the work students of Cartooning at SVA NYC do made me realize that if I ever want to get good at this I have to look up to the ones that are best somewhere where competition exists, and not be the best in an environment where no one cares (my case).
If there's anyone so incredibly kind to want to maybe exchange artwork for critique, or show me what homework/schoolwork assignments they get in their college (cartooning, animation, illustration, ...) or anything like that, it would mean the world to me. I'll leave an e-mail if anyone's seriously interested in some 21st century ColaboraciĆ³n
tl;dr: I wanna know what kind of assignments cartooning students get and learn from them because I'm a poor southeurofag

So this beautiful piece done by Adrian Smith has always captivated me.
For my Art History class we were asked to analize some paintings and sculptures, I picked this as one of my paintings. My professor told me that I need to find a comparable painting from a established artist.
Does anybody here know of any classical art pieces that resemble the composition or thematics represented in this work?
The closest one I could imagine was Vercingetorix' Surrender before Caesar.
awful piece

Hello /ic/!
I mainly browse pol and k but since I am rangebanned there Im going to share my works here.
I do not want to start a political discussion, just critisise it and give suggestions how I can better myself.
These are my first projects which I made with paint.net.
guys please criqitue my fan art of twitch from league leagends
Let me start off by saying im not an aritst and i don't even know who the hell this character is
you did a great job and should be proud, only critique is maybe increase the width of your lines so they're bolder and fit better with the cartoony style and maybe choose some more shades of color to seperate the fur from the pants
