I need artfriends. Friends that are into art. I'm not going to find anything but backpatting on DeviantArt, and most other communities for online art tend to be for people that are already professional, so I'm coming to /ic/ as a desperate last resort.
If you kind of suck, want to be motivated to un-suck, can motivate me to un-suck, and aren't a god dammed furry-bot-shill-pleb-etc., lets get in contact. Your choice of messaging, I'm flexible.
Pic Related are my current figure drawing studies.
Make a tumblr and put all your recent art on there. Then people can follow it if they like your art and you can chat with them. And you can go into the self promotion thread and follow the artists there that you like and chat with them.
>>2413087
Good idea. Will comply.
Though I don't know how many d/ic/kheads are on tumblr, and for some paradoxical reason I respect their opinions.
>>2412978
Hey pal!
Once you have your tumblr set up, post the url here i'll message you
hi /ic/, I'm trying to build up my reference folder. can you guys recommend me good websites with image references to siterip? ATM I'm just ripping from various LARP and fashion shopping websites.

/hr/
Anyone have links to tutorials for having a good structure for your reference and saved art? I have a bunch of folders within folders for different categories but I should perhaps use some kind of tagging system
There's a whole chain of reference threads

I've been using my H610 tablet for a while now and I need to get new drivers for it. How would I go about this? Installing them from the CD doesn't seem to work. And I cant seem to get the ones from the website to work properly either.
Any solutions?
>>2409717
OP Here. In terms of drivers from the site, it wont let me get past the stage of installing
wintab32.dll
What do I do?
>>2409742
have you tried asking huion? just tweet/ask them on their tumblr/facebook
i think i ran into that issue the first time i tried to instal the newest drivers.
i thought it was my AV so i disabled and retried and it worked.
i dunno maybe i just got lucky and it went through and disabling the AV did nothing.

Portfolio drawing for architecture school application
>>2409483
gj firez!
Although closing the eyes isnt the way to fix your problem ;)
I'm going to preface this post like this. My preconceived notion about the FZD school's videos are that they are useless. They are an advertisement for the classes packaged as free hours long tutorial sessions. The reason I feel that way is because the only people I ever hear or read talking about them are people who are really terrible digital painters with no style. I don't like Feng Zhu's style or approach to art.
That said, I'm looking for any free resources to help me design architecture for personal work, and I'm starting to wonder if there are any glimmers of wisdom in those hours of video that Feng uploads to his channel. If not, are there any other videos or resources /ic/ would recommend?
>>2404793
I know someone who went to FZD and he said you can pretty much learn what they teach if you do Scott Robertson How to draw book.
>>2404793
The reason why it looked useless to you is because feng zhu has a strong foundation when it comes to perspective and form that it looked rather fast and unpolished for your taste.
But then again, Feng zhu is a concept artist.
I strongly suggest learning basic drawing and perspective lessons before tackling architectural details.
For architectural refrences, I suggest learning from the architectural styles point of view. Let's say gothic or art noveau architectures.
>>2404793
>digital painters with no style
you are an idiot. FZD is not about painting nor is it about style. Guess what the 'D' stands for.
They are obviously an advertisement, but nonetheless they are packed with tons of tremendously valuable info and industry insights.
anyone have any good spine references? apparently i'm shit at finding refs and the only spines i can find are from the front, back, and sides. No 3/4 view
I can't take it anymore /ic/ I am a closet attention whore and for too long I have been a hermit but now I crave it I want those ass pats I want those likes and faves I want my ego fed and my dick stroked I want it all.
Where can I go to shamelessly get all of the attention but without having to circlejerk or kiss ass for it, is catering to furries a quick fix for the attention and audience I want?
Please respond.

Go to a drawthread and do as many requests as possible to the best of your ability
>>2414673
I like you, at least you're being honest with yourself.
The worst part about being an artist that wants to be paid for his work is hating the idea of celebrity.
I'm not even socially awkward or anything, at least not very, I just detest the idea of celebrity status and I find the fact that I have to become a phony like PewDiePie or RayWilliamJohnson or whatever really distasteful.
Is art over? People will now be able to manipulate 2D images as if they were 3D.

lmao, it's practically a rag compared to journal article reviews.
oh wait this is /ic/, nm
>>2414279
That's pretty interesting. However, it can't create anything new, it only manipulates what's already there. And what's more, the object's geometry and hidden texture are determined from a database -- meaning that if something isn't fully 3D modelled beforehand, it wont work.

You don't have the spark.
Can a bad reputation ruin your art career?
Once an artist gets popular enough, is it not inevitable that people will try to dig up dirt on them?
If anyone was so inclined, they could find my old gaia accounts, see my shitty 13 year old personal rants, my trolling. Find my old internet footprint and I'd be fucked. I've seen artists being accused of being pedophiles/abusers and it's fucking scary.
Can you even recover from that, or does it even matter?
>>2411665
All they would find on me is some bad pictures, some cringey rants, and talk about doing drugs or something.
I would just own it. Meh. That tends to be the best response imo as long as it's nothing like peeing on kids or w/e
>mfw I said some very anti-feminists anti-pc shit after the whole reporting-spree of Steven Universe babies when people drew the characters too "skinny" or whatever.
If I became popular, I'm sure those posts would bite me in the ass. I'll be labeled as some woman-hating body-shamer male chauvinist and/or nazi racist.
Welp.
>>2411665
>Can a bad reputation ruin your art career?
What kind of bad reputation? Bad reputation in working ethic, i.e. "giveman$120back" cases can surely ruin your career.
SJW clucking over your past is nothing but free ad
Have you ever received a critique that you believed was incorrect?
>>2403582
There's always one motherfucker in a critique that spouts total nonsense and only uses buzzwords in place of an argument. They all seem to gather here.
>>2403591
How enlightening. You seem to know a great deal about this. Care to share a story or two about your experiences?
>>2403582
many many. it pisses me off, which is a constant reminder that i need to acquire some humilityjuice.
Let's be real for a second - "Art" is pretty irrelevant outside of the entertainment industry right now. If you care about art outside video games, movies, cartoons, you're probably gay.
Moving on, my question is, why does it seem like artists draw the short straw in the game development industry? Both in fame, power, and wealth. Seems like game designers and prevalent programmers like John Carmack are highly known and well respected, but I can't really say the same thing for artists.
Do you know the art director for Blizzard? For Valve? For Bethesda? For Riot? For CDPR? Nah man, we don't know who the fuck they are. Even with freelance artists, they are only ever known among a few of the art community.
So, what's the deal? Carmack used his programming skills to become a role model in the game industry and has accumulated a $40 million net worth over the years.
Where does an artist go to get that kind of fame and wealth? Carmack makes great engines that are indispensable tools for game development companies. How can an artist do anything even remotely as important?
>>2414679
carmack is not your average fucking programmer. Romero. The others are just fucking PR and executive heads.
something like 70% of a modern AAA games budge gpes tp art. And those artists are getting paid very well. When Ifirst joined EA I started at $30h at very cost effective city.
>>2414679
Most of the money in art is in teaching, it's a vicious circle of artists preying on lesser artists to pay their bills. At least the costs associated with learning online and in Ateliers is ethical/reasonable without a lot of risk.
>only concept art is important
>why don't people think concept art is important
OP maybe concept art just isn't that important?
people will always need art for their houses, but most people don't play video games.
Hey guys,
What's the best approach to measure proportions, in order to remember them essentialy? Like if the figure is straight I understand that from head to toe a straight line and measure is the best approach but what happens when the figure is all twisted like this image, how would you measure it? I use the red image to measure stuff (vertical and horizontal) but I wonder if the other one (blue line) is better. I will be honest I am really stuck with this freaking dilema right now. I know taht Loomis approach this problem with box for every form in perspective but that's too long if you are doing a live model. Do people 'imagine' boxes and do the central lines in their head? Even with 1 minute poses? I mean doing the boxes takes ages if you are looking for neat proportions. Anyway let me know what you think, thanks!
> i know my image is shit, but its just to show a quick example
doing it your way is like studying for a math exam by remember the answers to specific questions. you're not understanding the underlying theory at all
>>2414571
Not OP but you didn't suggest any alternatives.
Personally I don't really measure out foreshortening to such a degree, I usually just look at reference/model and get a "feel" of what the size/shape should be. Breaking it down into flat shapes helps in that regard.
One minute poses is more about capturing the general gesture and form, strict proportions aren't super important.
(pic unrelated sorry) so i just bout an 80$ Huion tablet with fantastic pressure sensitivity but i dont know what program to use? preferably free ones but i might get sai if it's worth
just pirate sai
Search on the 4chan archives to get the best one
