Post shit that gets you inspired.
Novice artist here. I drew Squigly a while ago. Anything I can improve on? Btw this is her 14th alt costume.

Oh sorry I'm kinda new here.
Hey guys, I've been out of practice a long time. I just picked up a tablet that had a wacom digitizer and thought I'd play with some digital art stuff. Never tried it before. Thoughts?

Try taking a dump before crapping this shit out.

LOOMIS
im goin to start a thread of alot of my art you can tell me that you like what you dislike but most of all id like to know what direction i should go in the art i post will all be from age 17-19 so ya know i have alot of room to grow
Doing studies is like working out in the gym and creating a painting or drawing is like showing off your bod on the beach. But what If you're really well hung and wearing speedos, then you don't need to work out to be able to show off.
>>2407931
So do you need to do studies if you can already make something interesting. Or rather why do studies?
>>2407935
There is always room for improvement
>>2407931
Fat guys with huge dicks still don't get chicks, dude.

Should I learn from the sticky or from drawabox as a complete beginner?
>>2407360
avoid both and start a iterative drawing regimen
>>2407363
That seems like a terrible idea.
>>2407360
Doesnt really matter. Drawabox should be put in the sticky if it's not already there anyway.
Is he saying that it's hard to draw bad on purpose once you draw good?
>>2406927
no, his saying it's hard to have that absolute no give a shit creative based on absolutely nothing but the mind artistic freedom a child has. Kids don't care about how shitty their life is how what art critics think. They just shit out whatever is in their brain without a care in the world.
but no anon, be an absolute fucking retard and take picasso as literal as you can.
jesus fucking christ why are people so fucking retarded?
"When I was a child, I spoke as achild, I understood as a child, I thought as achild; but when I became a man, I put away childish things."
There's a time when you become an adult and forget what is like to be a child.
I can only imagine trying to be one again.
>>2406927
probably a misqotation. this is a real one:
>It takes a very long time to become young.
>Attributed to Pablo Ruiz Picasso in "The Hand of a Stranger (Journal D'un Inconnu)." Cocteau, Jean. Horizon Press. 1959
Right now on /ic/ there is a popular acceptance of this idea that learning to draw well is brutally hard. That there are no real shortcuts. That you must practice for hours a day for years and it will be a miserable grind. I have seen many threads where people looking for "better" advice have been met with ridicule. This is because to some people it looked like they wanted a magic spoonfed answer to get them good that didn't exist.
This thread is my gift to you /ic/. I will shed light to you on the matter of improvement.
The first book. The Inner Game of Tennis. Turned my life around. This book is just as important as the best books our tutorial has to offer. What it does, is it goes over the common almost automatic mental mistakes that happen when people try to learn or improve or perform a skill. Then it shows you how to get around those. This book has been quoted as heavily influential by people who are extremely skilled from various backgrounds. Within the first 20 pages it was addressing nearly every problem I personally identified with in the skills i've been trying to get good at.
There are various videos and books on the subject of improving quickly and learning fast. Supplement your training with the knowledge of these books. There is even a book out from the owner of a brain health center in NY on creating optimal brain health from brain health diets etc. That will greatly boost your learning speed.
Finally, your health. You will improve faster if your health is better. If you smoke or do drugs in general, stop. Go to /fit/ and read their sticky and get dead serious about exercise.
"Lmao just read this self help book and be healthy" thanks for the advice op, i'm going to be kim jung gi level soon!
Yeah, OP.
I know that most of the advice here is actually like going to /fit/. But that is because it's been proven by amateurs and pros as well that learning to draw is a matter of boring repetitive exercises, as well as getting ripped.
I see grinding the fundamentals as working out. You do not need "motivation" to actually grab a piece of paper and draw. You need the motivation to not get discouraged because it is painful.
>Hurr durr squats are painful and I don't like pain.
>Hurr durr I'm a failure I will never get fit.
>hurr durr I only work out when I feel motivated.
>Hurr durr where is magic trick to git gudt? hepl me /ic/.
Where to download?
How do I go back drawing again
Basically I've rerun the basic beginner books so many times I'm sick of it and don't want to do anything associated with them. But I feel like seppukuing if I completely let go of my hobby- and also I want to be good.
What the fuck all I wanted to do was to masturbate to my own drawings, why is art making my life even more depressing.
git gud
Need discipline

Reading up the 1 year to draw PDF, it has a section about character design. Aside from Schoolism, what are some really great places to learn character design?
Life.
>>2371116
I get a lot of inspiration from runway shows, specially for stuff like techwear which is what the gaming industry's all about.
if character design was cooking, there's only few ingridients to use, theory is way simpler than actually cooking
everything is about contrasts and communication
there's sizes/proportions of the parts, with themselves and with other characters, for example mario, luigi, wario and waluigi are the same thing with different proportions (also color and minor details)
there's shape languaje, with itself and wth other characters, you can compare the shapes of Monsters S.A. MC with the evil one
or shrek, how to make a funny friendly character? round shapes
then there's the influence, motifs and so on, you might want to take a look in historical references to use or to mix cultures and make something new but beilable
then the personality, it must be obvious or it would be bland
then the context, form must follow function to a minimum
but at the end of the day, to actually do it yourself you must git gud first :^)

As a child I was extremely fascinated with Yu-Gi-Oh card art (example attached), and it became my main focus when I've bought a cintiq and actually started doing digital art.
It has been a year now, and my biggest struggle is to find an audience. Naturally, what I do won't and shouldn't appeal to just anyone (Yu-Gi-Oh card art), so I can't just advertise myself randomly.
What can I do to gather an audience?
>>2407056
First step is to git gud
>>2407058
And then..? >>2407058
And then...?
I mean, I've worked on this step for so long, and obviously still am. However finding audience is just beyond me.
Do you do art because you enjoy it or because you want an audience? If it's the latter you'll probably end up disappointed. No one can choose to have an audience, the audience chooses who they follow, and there's no magic bullet to get one. Who would have predicted Undertale would get the fanbase it did?
If you can help it leave ego at the door and make things you enjoy, hopefully an audience will develop on its own from the passion you put in your work.
Some people say art is really just communication and expressing thoughts and ideas, do you actually want to make art or do you really just want an audience to communicate with?
How can I fight with procrastination?
>inb4 force myself
Something else?
>inb4 force myself
you already know the answer anon
stop procrastinating
making this thread was just a symptom of your laziness
just do it
DO IT
DOOOOO ITTTTT

changing up mediums inspires me. Also making my own sketchbooks excites me and gets drawing.
Dunno why the other guy got rid of his thoughts, they werent bad.
I cant say that deleting my games would help me though. The main issue with me is that I am a beginner and I dont quite know what to do. It may sound stupid, but it overwhelms me and I feel like I dont know where to start at all.
