The two anons on suicide watch are never going to fucking make it.
Jerry is pretty "IMAGINE LIFE THROUGH HIS EYES" and banana's shit proves he's a slow learner and prone to self-discouragement.

You guys are lucky. You now have two people who are guaranteed to be eliminated from LAS #1.

I've started forcing myself to draw with my elbow rather than my wrist and I think I'm starting to see improvements when sketching, drawing shapes or figure drawings.

I cant draw for shit. No matter what I do my drawings still look like a 10 year old did it. I don't understand how some people can take a photo and draw the person almost exactly. I draw for hours on end and don't improve. All I want is to be able to draw photorealistically.

There is no place anywhere on the internet where people will hold your hand and make you get better through invaluable, mind blowing advice and critiques that you couldn't possibly have figured out on your own. If someone tells you to read more Loomis, they mean you don't have a proper grasp on perspective, construction and anatomy.

Online surveys aren't a real job!

A bowtie and sandals? Paging Dr. Dork!

Aside from that, it's nice that the subject comes out of the background a little, and you've captured a great deal of life in the face... but the values demonstrated aren't very comprehensive outside of the face, which makes the hands, the sweater and the pants all kinda look like you gave up in the middle of rendering them. Also the hand by her mouth has some proportional issues due to a line you dragged down farther than you should have between her index and middle fingers.

I am almost done with this piece, but I feel like something is off, but I cannot put my finger on what it could be, or if there is even something off.

Is it just me?

you have no clean value grouping and the values are all very close together in range which makes that nothing stands out. you don't use your values correctly to show the form of things and this makes everything flat. the pose is really stiff, the face is borderline symbol drawing/ you have these weird textures going on that don't add anything. study hands. study anatomy.
>>
>>2409031

also, forgot to type, you need to define a clear light source next time. I'd advise you to drop this because there is no saving it, study, study, then try again. Don't let my crit deter or discourage you, keep on going! Only way is up from here. Good luck.
>>
Thanks man and no worries, I appreciate the advise, critique is the only way to improve.

And yes... I see your point, I did focus on the shading, but I can see that I need to exaggerate it more (in my case). As for the light source I plan to do more work on that tomorrow, some dynamic lighting.

If you mean the textures at the background, I did that only for a quick background, I am pretty unskilled at environmental designs, I usually have no background, but I will study that some time in the future as well, for now I want to focus more on character designs.

And thanks again.

When doing color studies, do you pick the colors with the waterdrop(?) tool or do you paint without using that (so without colour picking).

Also what is the best way to do color and value studies, i just use random internet pictures. Should I always do studies from real life situations or also other fanart or paintings?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you pick colors from the photo reference, then you learn nothing. Normally you pick from color wheel. Jard mode is mixing digitally from basic colors.
>>
Lately, I've been using Adobe Capture. Shit's great for getting a color palette, as long as your picture is good.

Unfortunately, it requires a smartphone.
>>
>>2408724
But you can't mix the same way digitally, at least not in PS. What are you even talking about?

What makes a landscape give you the effect of "being there"? When I look at a lot of landscape paintings/photos I feel like I am looking AT a picture, rather than being in it regardless of the fact that I have it on full size view filling up my whole monitor. One of Stålenhag's strengths in my opinion is that he often achieves the effect of being immersed in his painting. Is it as simple as the fact that he often has the viewpoint rather low on the horizon and shows a lot of ground?

>Is it as simple as the fact that he often has the viewpoint rather low on the horizon and shows a lot of ground?

Yeah, pretty much. It's a fairly easy concept to understand if you think of yourself as the cameraman taking the shot and the horizon line is your own eye level. In this image, you are standing right behind those 2 people. If the horizon line was even lower, it would seem like you fell down or dropped the camera or something, which would give the composition an even more dramatic feeling and a bigger sense of urgency, like they are fleeing from something and you are being left behind.

If the eyelevel was very high, it would be the exact opposite, you are observing the scene from a safe distance from inside a helicopter. That type of shot is often used for establishing shots, but it lacks any sense of danger or direct involvement.

Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up( or do what am i your mom?).

AVOID asking unrelated questions, There is a question thread for that.

Visit the usual "Art book Thread" to find your desired books.

Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

→ → → → Before asking "what should I read/view/study/learn," Read the f*cking sticky, it's there for a reason: >>1579290 → → → → → → → → → →

>Thread study: Try to draw/paint the opening or any other following images.
Feel free to post your original works as well if you're trash.

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless. (hint: post something against the rules if you want to be banned)

I have a few questions for y'all.

When do you know that you've gotten good? Is there even a state where you can git gud, or is it just an endless pursuit—even when accounting for practicing the fundamentals non-stop? Is the constant dread of "I am shit?" a permanent thing in the long term?

Is it worth it to buy Corel Painter X3 just for blenders? I've recently learned that Corel blenders are awesome, but I wonder if there's a better way to blend in Photoshop CC that I've missed out on somehow...

Oh, and lastly, if you're in the "realism is best" mentality, what's the best way to react to getting hired to do generic anime shit?

Pic semi-related; it's a WIP I've been doing in my free time. It's more related to question 2 than anything else.
