How come Afghanistan was such a shitshow when the Soviets invaded Hungary without a hitch?
>>1833663
Same reason it is now. America sponsors goat fuckers to topple the legitimate secular governments in the middle east if they don't bow to them.
>>1833836
But the Soviets were the ones who destabilized the Afghani government by getting rid of the popular elected leader and putting a commie puppet in his place.
Hungary isn't a broken shithole of a country, and it doesn't border Pakistan.

Not enough domestic rich people needed their lawns mowed.

The first one was Caesarean in nature and Caesarism always ends up collapsing due to lack of public support.
The second one was a superimposed colonial project by Napoleon III. Maximilian was a cool dude though.
Marie Antoinette was executed on October 16th, 1793.
Was it a justified execution, politically? How has her image changed in the past 220 years?
just want to chat it up about Marie Antoinette today
>>1833609
Marie Antoinette was just a tragic scapegoat whose only crime was getting married off to the French king.
She never even said "let them eat cake" or any variation thereof, that was just propaganda.
>Was it a justified execution, politically?
Technically, I suppose, since she did reveal French military locations to an Austrian ambassador in 1792, but at the time they didn't have any evidence she did so and even she had the insight to remark at her trial that they had not been able to produce against her any positive fact, and that most of the people who gave testimony were unknown to her. The "evidence" at her trial was just a parade of the ridiculousness that had been in the pamphlets for years, rather than any sort of legitimate crimes.
Diplomatically, it wasn't a good move. If the king's death was viewed as the horrendous action of a rebelling populous, the queen's death was viewed as a mindless slaughter. You just didn't execute the women in a European revolt or revolution. I think the French republic could have stabilized its status in Europe at least somewhat if it had sent Marie Antoinette, the king's sister, and the king's children out of France in exile rather than killing Marie Antoinette, a few months later killing the king's sister, and having the king's son neglected to death.
>How has her image changed in the past 220 years?
It's changed from era to era. Sometimes she's been sanctified, sometimes she's been vilified, in the past 100 years she's been depicted as more slutty, thanks to Stefan Zweig's biography tipped the pendulum towards depicting her as a featherbrained, flirty spendthrift who acted wildly because she needed sex. In popular culture this tends to be the view--popular programs that talk about her (like some short-lived TV series where they made parties inspired by historical figures) tend to emphasis her being wild, drinking a lot, flirting, devil-may-care, etc. And of course "let them eat cake" or even the idea that she demeaned or was callous towards the poor will never stop being attributed to her or modern politicians who are then called "Marie Antoinette."

>whose only crime was getting married off to the French king.
I mean, she did give up French military positions to the Austrians. The proof didn't come out until decades and decades after her death when her correspondence was published, though.

One thing that amazes me about the Roman Empire is their administration, I simply don't understand how they controlled vast amounts of territory.
>How did they collect taxes and effectively spread them to services if all wealth was in physical coins?
>How did they learn of rebellions when travelling from one side of the empire to the next took months?
>How did they define borders with german tribes and the persians, and effectively control these borders?
>How did they track territory lost and gained in war? How did they offer peace?
>How did they enforce law?
Is there some sort of book or documentary on just how the fuck they did this?

Not very efficiently.
When you look at that you should probably also understand that the Population was centered almost entirely around the Mediterranean, so the majority of news could reach rome in just a few days.

ITT, we discuss Zoroastrianism, Aka Mazdeanism, Aka Fire Worshiping. One of the oldest Religions in the world. originated from iran, it was spread from Georgia to Afghanistan and certain sects, like cult of Mithra, even further. although later it's significance decreased due to Christianization (in Georgia and Armenia) and later when MUDslime Sandniggers overrun Iran, spoiled it and banished this religion.
Zoroastrians believe that there is one universal, transcendent, supreme god, Ahura Mazda, or the "Wise Lord". In Zoroastrian tradition, the "chaotic" is represented by Angra Mainyu (also referred to as "Ahriman"), the "Destructive Principle". According to mythology Ahura Mazda created good spirits, while Ahriman created Daevas and they shall battle each other to eternity. But finally, Ahura mazda shall emerge Victorious.
So, what do you guys think about this religion?
P.S. interesting fact: We have one of the active fire temple (or ateshga) in Tbilisi.
Persians were already sandniggers before the Arabs came and raped them.

Did formal letters follow any kind of common structure, conventions or format in Classic Greece, the Hellenistic world and/or Ancient Rome? Like for example in english you'll start with "Dear Mr. X," and then follow in a different paragraph".
I'm interested on how other ancient cultures wrote their letters, too, but specially on the Greco-Roman world.

Bumping
interesting question, I would like hear this too.
bump to keep this thread alive
>>1833620
In case the question is not clear, I'll like to know if it was usual to invoke some specific god at the start of the letter, just like tombs often invoke the Dis Manibus. Or if there are expressions related to letters like sit tibi terra levis, to provide another funerary-related example.
Or in general if it was customary in a formal letter to follow some kind of paragraph structure where you first start with trivial things, then introduce the main subject, etc.
did natives of alaska and eastern siberia have any regular contact with each other before european's arrival?
After the Bering strait showed up, I doubt it.

When the land bridge was there, probably. Afterwards, probably not. There wasn't much in eastern Siberia that you couldn't find in Alaska.
Modern-day Greeks are in no way descended from the Ancient Spartans who themselves were genetically, historically and physically different from their Helot slaves that represented something like 70% of their state. There is no proof that modern-day Greeks descended from Spartans.
Greeks are a plainly speaking a mix of several different ethnicities which include: Greek Anatollian, Southern Italian, Albanian, Vlach, Slav, Armenian, Levantine Arab, Turk, Georgians, Iranians and gypsies.

Who cares?
Go back to /pol/ or /int/ or whichever shithole you came from.
Pic related are Ancient Spartans/Spartini which do not resemble the modern-day mix-breed Greek.
>>1833096
Greeks cannot claim Sparta. They can at best claim their slave descent but that's also pushing it since Greeks have mixed origins.

Can we all agree the reformation wasn't a result of Luther but of several other factors and that Luther just turned out to be a trigger?
the reformation might have looked somewhat different but in the end Luther was just that one guy that didn't let the pope kill him unlike Jan Huss, right?
>>1833022
I agree with the statement. The Reformation was a result of many factors, and blaming the entire thing on Luther is not only ridiculous, but indicative of lack of historical knowledge (since there were many other reformers at the same time, and many of them much more radical than Luther).
But it still seems to trigger Catholic fags, for some reason. Probably because all they know about the Reformation is what they were taught in their catechism class by some volunteer old lady.

>>1833034
Why blame Luther for anything? The Catholic church is ridiculous, he spoke up against it and now you can go to church and...

2. Not have to deal with a stupid church hierarchy.
Thank him, if anything.
