Hapsburgs have always been my favourite European dynasty

They always get so much hate from people using them as evidence for "why monarchies suck" but I think the opposite. They went from being a small family in southern Germany to one of the most powerful families in Europe.

Austria is in such a shitty location too. Stuck between Poland-Lith, the Ottomans and France, later Prussia/Germany and Italy too.

Their empire was a a multicultural and multireligious one. They held it together through the wars of religion and the rise of nationalism.

up until the 18th century religion had been the main justification to wage war against another country (crusades, jihads, protestants vs catholics, sunni vs shia). but when imperialism hit its stride it became more about spreading your cultural identity or obtaining resources (from other cultures who did not "deserve" them) religion still played a role yes but it more to the side compared to the former two.

I think the south would have had industrialized way faster, our growth and expansion would have been had faster, and more importantly, Civil War wouldn't have happened and we would have much, much, MUCH better race relations in the United States today (less racism, inequality, BLM chimpouts, niggers doing nigger things, etc). Illegal slave trade would have meant significantly less niggers in America, and those that were already here, would have developed a more work ethic, family values and religious oriented life, like that of rural Midwest USA, because they would have become free farmers. Also not related to black americans but I think the USA should have imported more of Asian immigrants, specially Japanese, because they are very hard working and honest immigrants who contribute much to the country. It's a shame that east asian americans make up for less than 3% of US demographics.
