Tell me more about aircraft carriers

Aren't they easy to bomb with planes?
What's their use then?
Let's have a buddhist thread /his/
What are some good beginner texts/essential texts?
>>2595364
as a buddhist, dont read much. so many buddhist i have met specifically online are dogmatic about their beleifs because of what they read in suttras and stuff. just know that you shouldnt have attachment and meditate. if buddha could figure it out and have it all written out so can you. but probably not.no reason to read stuff.
Do Buddhists believe in deities in a literal sense? Or can someone be essentially an atheist and a Buddhist?
>>2595624
buddhism is an atheist religion. but there are some who think buddha is a god. hard to make an arguement for it though considering he saids hes not a god.
there are also demons in buddhism such as Mara. again some peopletake them literally others take it to symbolize mans anger/desire etc.
the great thing about buddhism is that if you can make a case for it and prove it and make it fact, then its fact and overrides some past shit.
the buddha welcomed challengers to his ideas and even asked of his followers to make sure he was correct in his visions during enlightment by teaching them how he got to enlightenment and in a way tried to reenact the experiment to confirm it. like how science will redo an experiment to assure a just conclusion.
tldr: they believe what they want, based on what they are able to argue for or against.
>be american education system
>focus on nothing but WW2, WW2, WW2
>teach about the horrors of fascism
>teach about the horrors of fascism some more
>teach about the holocaust
>teach about the holocaust some more
>teach about the holocaust some more
>never teach communism, or at most touch on the 'red scare' for 5 seconds
>never teach about the horrors of communism
>never teach about the holodomor
>never teach about the gulag death camps
>never teach about the millions of deaths under stalin, mao, or that time communists in cambodia killed literally 1/4 the population of the island
>get a bunch of edgy fucking teenagers who think communism is cool and spout no true communist memes because they know absolutely nothing about it
what the fuck went wrong?
I am honestly offended that our leaders allowed this to happen, especially since the were our number 1 ideologically enemy for so long, how did congress not come together and put forth a curriculum to teach why communism is so shit? I went through high school learning about why nationalism, fascism, and authoritarianism is bad, but they couldn't teach about fucking communism? how did our leaders fail us this bad?
i am unironically offended at this. the only reason I know communism is shit, is because my grandparents were refugees from communist hungary. my great uncle whom I never met literally got taken away by the secret police.
this would be like a jew growing up and only knowing fascism was bad because his grandparents were refugees, and nobody else knowing that hitler did anything wrong.
im fucking mad
>what the fuck went wrong?
jews
Fascism is the only cohesive way for Europeans to defend themselves against the jews and the mud people of course they will demonize it.
>>2592773
even if jews were literally the reason kids dont learn about communism it doesn't even make any fucking SENSE because jews didn't get a lot of power until the 1980s
white people in america had like 40 fucking years to put communism into the textbooks
there's greater retardation at play here
Why didn't rome just take all of Africa? Did they fear the black warrior?
>>2592321
Did rome not have boats??
Quality thread.
Somewhere, deep inside of me, i would like this question to be legitimate
They suffered some pretty big defeats in modern day Somalia. In other words, yes, you're technically correct
Can we have an architecture thread? Bonus points for posting stuff that doesn't exist anymore.

WHAT DOES ONE GET BY POSTING IMAGES OF SOMETHING THAT DID NOT EVEN COME TO BE?

>first time seeing this
>learn it doesn't exist anymore
this is just pure emotional robbery
If the Iliad is about Greek victory over the Trojans and the supposed "hero" is Achilles, how come Hector is portrayed as the undeniable good guy?
He did literally nothing wrong moral-wise and was absolutely based.
Achilles as nothing but a whiny baby who does nothing for the majority of the epic and only beat the shit outta everyone because his mom pulled a lot of strings for him. He only defeated Hector because of divine intervention.
Why did Homer make Hector so much more heroic than an actual Greek figure?
>>2590540
>If the Iliad is about Greek victory over the Trojans and the supposed "hero" is Achilles,
It isn't you retard. It's literally in the first fucking line what the Iliad is about; the conflict between Achilles and Agammemnon. The war is just a backdrop.
>He did literally nothing wrong moral-wise and was absolutely based.
That's also wrong. He's quite literally portrayed as a coward, needing a God to trick him to stand and fight and die like his fate demands.
> He only defeated Hector because of divine intervention.
If you haven't noted that Hector doesn't stand a chance, you haven't been reading very closely. The guy couldn't beat Ajax or Diomedes, and they're a lot weaker than Achilles.
Because a "hero" in greek meant something different then what it means today. The greek hero is a powerful, often semi-divine, doer of deeds. In any major conflict, both sides would have heroes. The moral character of the hero was based on things like martial prowess, and sometimes piety or loyalty. Whether he was self-controlled or compassionate [in short, whether he was Christian] was irrelevant to his status as a hero.

It's like different people at different times have different values or something.
How about a meme thread?
The more I learn about Imperial Japan, the more I think they deserved those two A-bombs. I mean, Jesus Christ, what a bunch of evil fucks these guys were.
>>2589694
>Japanese civilians deserve to be vaporised
Yes. People who had no idea apart from being manipulated by the state deserve to be evaporated. Nice logic.
>implying it's not born of 1945 American propoganda.
I bet you believe they thought the emperor was divine and that was why they followed him.
Holy shit, end yourself.

>using foreign mercenaries as bodyguards
Has this ever not turned out disastrously in the end?
>>2587516
And how many Roman Emperors were betrayed by Roman bodyguards?
As the first thread was a resounding success, I will start another.
This is a thread for scandalous, prurient, erotic, or otherwise sexy historical anecdotes, tidbits, or events, along with tasteful artwork that depicts them.
I would be greatly honored if the based drawfag responsible for the attached image were to make an appearance.
Original thread here: >>2559219
To begin, a somewhat un-lewd fact: Geishas did not perform sexual services, and were a distinct social group form that of the prostitute or courtesan. They only provided companionship and entertainment.

Don't they still have that? You rent a girl just to buy her drinks and show her a good time.
Nips are ass backwards.
/r/ing any stories about ancient loli's.
Please. I need this.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Beard or no Beard?
Does beard make a man look more manly?
This is neither history nor humanities
>The ancient Greeks regarded the beard as a badge or sign of virility; in the Homeric epics, it had almost sanctified significance, and a common form of entreaty was to touch the beard of the person addressed.[18] It was shaven only as a sign of mourning; it was then instead often left untrimmed. A smooth face was regarded as a sign of effeminacy.[19] The Spartans punished cowards by shaving off a portion of their beards. From the earliest times, however, the shaving of the upper lip was not uncommon. Greek beards were also frequently curled with tongs.

A history of beard
Genocides and mass crimes aside, was Stalin a shitty incompetent leader? He couldn't hold his own against a much smaller country Germany, despite 15 years of Prep time. It was only American lend lease that saved his ass in the end.
just from the way you worded this thread gives me the impression you're not ready to approach this question with any seriousness
'nuff said
What is that urban metrosexual image??
Pic related what a real modern commie looks like
Reminder that we would be living in a post-scarcity economy right now if rich people learned how to share.
pic related: one of the heartless rich people preventing us from reaching post-scarcity
This is the main problem in history: rich people not sharing their wealth. Other problems would be solved in that one factor was in place.
>what is capitalism
The Emperors hoarded wealth, the Kings hoarded wealth, and now the bankers hoard their wealth. This has remained the key thing holding back the rest of humanity
