How much did the people in the middle ages know about the past? Especially the Germanic tribes who conquered the western roman empire.

Histories and chronicles existed but they weren't exactly a thing for the illiterate masses. Folk stories served for that.
>>
>>2614124
since the average citizen didn't know how to read until the 19th and 20th centuries in the west, extremely few were able to actually learn much

the only real history that was passed on through time was that of rome and the greeks to an extent

and like
>>2614140
said, the rest was passed on through folk tales and the like
>>
We know next to nothing about what the average person in the middle ages thought because writing was mostly in the domain of the clergy and the nobility.

You can infer things from historical references but you have to take into account the audience for the reference and stuff like that.

Just looking at Irish history because that's what I specialised in: Brian Boru is consistently referred to as the °Augustus of the North" in a propaganda piece intended to be read by Irish nobles so we can assume that the average 11th century Irish nobleman would know a little bit about Roman history. In a 15th century annal, Mael Mórdha mac Murchada, an 11th century Irish king, is referred to as "putrid while living, damned when dead", so we know that his status as a kind of Arch-Traitor in the Irish national consciousness persisted until then.

That's correct, modern changed from being a synonym of contemporary.

Instead of becoming the leader of the NSDAP, Adolf Hitler finishes secondary school, becomes an architect, and is mildly successful, designing various buildings in Italy and Germany.

>Adolf Hitler finishes secondary school, becomes an architect, and is mildly successful, designing various buildings in Italy and Germany.
Was never gonna happen. He was incapable of applying himself in secondary school and was a failing student most of the time. He also never had the drive to become a good architect or artist. He deluded himself into believing he was the best artist ever.

Why is Indian history so overlooked for pop culture and in common historical knowledge? The area has been populated for millennia yet the only things I know about it are Ghandi, Alexander and the Mhugals invasions.

Britain did a good job suppressing it.
>>
Same reason why Chinese history is overlooked. They're both gigantic clusterfucks and detailed studying of them is too tedious and wouldn't go well with standardized curriculum teached in modern schools.

Indians sure love getting blown the fuck out by numerically inferior forces

Hey, /his/.

I'm writing my LLM's dissertation on the accountability of the UN Security Council, specifically the possibility of a "judicial review" over the SC through the International Court.

Have you guys any ideas or any recommendations on reading materials for me?

It doesn't really need to be related to Law or International Law. It could be just about the Security Council and what it has done through the years. Doesn't even have to be against the Security Council to be honest, I want to read different opinions.

Thanks and sorry if I committed any writing mistakes (English is not my first language).

Cheers.

I usually find philosophy books hard to follow because of confusing or misleading terminology. I never had problems with history books, they can be very fun depending on the period and thematic.

Why do people so neatly arrange themselves into the right or left wing? Is it peer pressure? Have you personally ever interacted with anyone who wasn't basically a walking cliche politically? Tell me your stories.

1. When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls.

2. And there can be no denying of its befalling.

3. It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt;

4. When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake.

5. And the mountains will be powdered to dust.

6. So that they will become floating dust particles.

7. And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups).

8. So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise).

9. And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell).

10. And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise).

I'm racist, sexist, xenophobic, atheist, realize global warming is real, think Rhineland capitalism is the best model for the economy, favor traditional women and think they should be primarily mothers, have some sympathies with class based analysis of societies and read a fair bit of adorno and found myself agreeing with a lot, personally consider the jews a destructive fifth column while being a secret jewaboo at the same time. I pretty much keep my politics to myself.

Also I own a dog but I consider most dog owners who treat their dog like a human child absolute degenerates.

I'm doing a work on the subject and would like help finding out sources for research,
going from history (communications disruption) from WW2 to modern days EMS devices

found few things that can be of great help:
> The Secret War
documentary from 77, covers stuff from the old war, seems cool by it self, and includes EW of course

> The Secrets of War
covers a wide array of stuff, but seems to include EW and electronic intelligence in some episodes, I need to filter though

> The Invisible Machine
typical History Channel aliens, but seems to be the only documentary focusing entirely on EW, can't find download anywhere besides YT with shitty quality

This subject is surprisingly lacking in content, what do you guys have?
